Chapter 10 - 8. Late

The rest of the day, Samuel couldn't stop thinking about Angel Dove.

The girl with the green eyes.

No matter what he did, her face kept appearing in his mind. The brief moment they had stared at each other in the mall replayed over and over again.

It was ridiculous.

They hadn't even exchanged names.

Yet somehow, she felt familiar.

Like he had known her for years.

By the time he got home, the feeling hadn't gone away.

After greeting a few staff members and escaping to his room, Samuel sat down in front of his computer.

His fingers hovered over the keyboard for only a second before typing:

Angel Dove.

The search results appeared instantly.

Article after article filled the screen.

Photos of Interviews,charity galas,fashion events.

Business magazines featuring her parents.

Apparently, Angel Dove wasn't just rich.

She was famous.

Samuel leaned back in his chair as he scrolled through the endless results.

The Dove family had been wealthy for generations. Old money. The kind of wealth that built companies, funded cities, and appeared in history books.

He wasn't surprised.

His own family belonged to the same world.

What did surprise him was Angel herself.

She had over thirty-five million followers across her social media accounts.

Thirty-five million.

Samuel stared at the number.

"That's insane."

"That's ten million more than me."

Not that he cared much about social media.

Or at least that's what he told himself.

His own accounts had accumulated over twenty-five million followers over the years thanks to his family's status, public appearances, charity events, and the occasional photo that somehow went viral.

Still...

Thirty-five million was impressive.Especially for someone their age.

Curious, he opened one of her profiles.

Most of the photos were exactly what he expected.

Family events,luxury vacations,School functions,Pictures with friends.

His scrolling slowed when he noticed a familiar face.

Miley Harper.

Samuel blinked.

Then blinked again.

"What?"

He clicked the photo.

There was no mistaking it.

Miley.

His cousin.

Standing beside Angel with matching smiles.

Samuel sat back in disbelief.

Of course.

The world suddenly felt much smaller.

For a brief moment, he considered calling her.

Miley would definitely know Angel.

Probably better than anyone.

His hand moved toward his phone before stopping.

What exactly was he supposed to say?

Hey Miley, funny question. Do you know if your best friend has been appearing in my dreams for years?

Yeah.

That wasn't happening.

Samuel groaned and dropped his head against the back of his chair.

No matter how he looked at it, the conversation sounded insane.

So he decided against it.

Instead, he closed the laptop and spent the rest of the evening trying—and failing—to stop thinking about green eyes.

Unfortunately, it didn't work.

Because that night...

He dreamed of Angel Dove.

***

Wensday....8:45 AM

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the large windows of Angel's bedroom, falling directly across her face.

Her alarm rang.

Angel groaned and buried her face deeper into her pillow.

Five minutes later it rang again.

She ignored it.

Another five minutes.

Ignored.

Eventually her bedroom door opened.

"Angel."

No response.

"Angel Dove."

Still nothing.

A sigh echoed through the room.

Then her blankets vanished. Angel immediately sat upright.

"Nanny!"

"You are going to be late."

Angel glanced at the clock."Oh."

She flopped back onto the bed.

Nanny stared at her.

"Did you hear me?"

"Yes."

"And?"

Angel yawned.

"I heard you."

Twenty minutes later, she was finally standing in front of her mirror. Her Westbridge Academy uniform was perfectly pressed.

A white button-up shirt, a black pleated skirt, a fitted black blazer with the school's crest embroidered on the pocket and White knee-high socks with polished black shoes.

The uniform looked elegant.

Angel still spent another ten minutes fixing her hair.

"Angel."

"Almost done."

"You said that ten minutes ago."

"Beauty takes time."

Nanny rolled her eyes.

By the time Angel finally made her way downstairs, breakfast was already waiting.

Several maids immediately hurried over.

One pulled out her chair.

Another poured her orange juice.

A third placed pancakes in front of her.

"I don't want breakfast."

"Eat."

"Nanny."

"Eat."

Across the table, Max snorted.

"She's fifteen and still needs to be told to eat."

Angel narrowed her eyes.

"Nobody asked you."

Max smirked.

"You know most people your age can feed themselves."

"And most people your age don't throw parties every weekend."

"Fair point."

Angel reached for a strawberry and threw it at him.

Max caught it effortlessly.

"See? Child."

"Idiot ."

"Mentally you're about six."

Angel gasped dramatically.

Nanny sighed.

"Enough."

Max checked the time on his phone before standing.

"I've got football practice."

"Wait for me," Angel said immediately.

"No."

"Max."

"No."

"Max!"

"I said no."

Angel glared.

"You're horrible."

"Yet somehow still your favorite brother."

"You're my only brother."

"Exactly."

Max grinned before kissing Nanny's cheek.

Then he deliberately messed up Angel's carefully arranged hair.

Angel shrieked.

"MAX!"

Laughing, he walked away.

Angel spent the next thirty seconds fixing her hair again.

After breakfast she finally left for school.

By the time she arrived at Westbridge Academy, classes had already started.

Angel pushed open the classroom door without the slightest bit of guilt.

Everyone turned.

Mr. Hampton looked up from the board.

His eyes narrowed.

"Miss Dove."

"Good morning, Mr. Hampton."

"You're late."

Angel glanced at the clock.

"Technically."

A few students laughed.

Mr. Hampton sighed.

"Two demerits."

Angel frowned.

"That's harsh."

"Take your seat."

Still unconvinced she had done anything wrong, Angel casually walked to her desk while Miley tried—and failed—not to laugh.
