Chapter 31 - Chapter 30

Harry woke up to sunlight streaming through his window at Grimmauld Place like the universe was personally spotlighting his inevitable mental breakdown.

For exactly three seconds, he had no idea what day it was. Then his brain caught up with reality, and he sat bolt upright so fast he nearly achieved escape velocity.

July 31st. His birthday. His *first* birthday. Well, technically his eleventh, but the first one where people weren't actively pretending he was a sentient biohazard growing in their cupboard under the stairs.

*"Good morning, birthday dipshit,"* Drakor's voice rumbled in his mind with the warm affection of a sentient sledgehammer wrapped in sarcasm and existential superiority. *"I trust you slept like absolute garbage despite me specifically regulating your neurochemistry for optimal rest. But sure, let's ignore my efforts and have anxiety dreams about whether the Weasley twins will accidentally summon a minor demon during party entertainment."*

*I did not—*

*"You rehearsed that 'thank you for coming' speech seventeen times. Seventeen. I counted because I was bored and your anxiety is my entertainment now. You were also convinced everyone would suddenly realize they don't actually like you and leave mid-party to go do literally anything else. Your cortisol levels were so high I could've bottled them and sold them as industrial solvent."*

*You're supposed to be supportive on my birthday.*

*"I AM being supportive, you absolute muppet. I'm supporting you by pointing out how spectacularly ridiculous your anxiety is so you can recognize it, laugh at it, and move the fuck on with your life. That's called 'tough love' in your primitive human psychology. You're welcome. I'm an excellent partner. I deserve awards."*

Harry swung his legs out of bed and immediately noticed his room looked like someone had decorated it while he was unconscious. Which—fair—he had definitely been unconscious. Sleep was basically voluntary unconsciousness with bonus hallucinations.

Silver and green streamers draped across the ceiling in elegant swoops. A banner reading "Happy Birthday Harry" in letters that shifted between English and French hung above his mirror, the transitions smooth enough to suggest Fleur had been showing off. And on his bedside table sat a small package wrapped in paper that looked like it cost more than most people's annual income.

*"The small French chaos agent—Gabrielle, your favorite miniature existentialist—showed up at 6:47 AM with her sister,"* Drakor informed him with obvious approval. *"Both of them were vibrating with enough caffeinated enthusiasm to power a small city. They woke up Sirius, who answered the door looking like a disheveled raccoon who'd lost a territorial dispute with a hedge trimmer. His hair was pointing in directions that defy physics. It was the most entertainment I've had since watching you try to explain to Amelia why reforming the justice system required more than just 'being nicer to people.'"*

*That's not what I said—*

*"That's absolutely what you said. I have perfect memory. It's one of my many superior qualities. Don't argue with me, I'm a cosmic entity and you're a small anxious child. Know your place."*

Harry picked up the package, noting the elegant handwriting on the attached card: "Pour Harry - Joyeux Anniversaire! From Gabrielle (and Fleur helped a little but mostly it was me!)"

Inside was a book titled "Les Créatures Cosmiques et Leurs Critiques Culinaires."

There was a long silence in his head.

Then: *"HARRY."*

Drakor's voice had gone from snarky to reverent so fast Harry got mental whiplash.

*"Harry, this is—this is a first edition from 1687. This book hasn't been seen in three centuries. Scholars thought it was destroyed in a fire. Multiple scholars DIED looking for this. How did an eight-year-old French girl find this in a random bookshop? Is she secretly a probability-manipulating deity wearing a child costume? Should I be concerned? Should I be impressed? I'm both. I'm concernpressed. That's a word now. I just made it a word through sheer cosmic authority."*

*Concernpressed definitely isn't—*

*"It IS. I MADE IT SO. That's the kind of power I wield. I can create words, restructure reality, and make your anxiety my personal comedy show. But more importantly—HARRY. This child found a book that cosmic entity scholars have been searching for since the Enlightenment. She just... FOUND it. In Nice. NICE. Like she was shopping for baguettes and accidentally stumbled across the Holy Grail of cosmic entity literature."*

There was a handwritten note beneath in careful French with English translation: "I found zis in a bookshop in Nice! Ze owner said it was ze only copy and very rare! I thought you and Drakor would like to read about other cosmic entities who eat impossible things and 'ave opinions! Also zere is a chapter about flavor profiles of different magical creatures that might be 'elpful for future cosmic dining experiences!"

*"Harry, I need you to understand something very important,"* Drakor said with the gravity of someone delivering a presidential address. *"This girl is either the luckiest human alive, secretly working with forces beyond comprehension, or she's a chaos deity in training. Either way, she's terrifying and I respect that enormously. She's now my favorite human. I'm adopting her as my secondary host. Don't tell her—actually, DO tell her. Establish dominance through preferential treatment. Make the other children jealous."*

*You can't adopt Gabrielle—*

*"Watch me. I'm a cosmic entity. I can do whatever I want. The rules are made up and the points don't matter. Speaking of which, you need to give her something equally impressive for her birthday or I'll be forced to intervene with aggressive gift-selection protocols."*

A knock at the door interrupted Drakor's existential crisis about French children with supernatural book-finding abilities.

"Harry?" Sirius called through the door, his voice rough with morning gravel and emotions he was desperately trying to hide behind casual enthusiasm. "You decent? Also, don't answer that—I'm coming in anyway because I made breakfast and if I have to wait for you to give me permission, it'll get cold and Kreacher will murder me. Violently. With kitchen implements."

Sirius burst in carrying a tray that looked like a five-star restaurant had explosively collided with a child's fever dream. Pancakes with chocolate chips arranged in perfect spirals. Bacon cooked to the exact level of crispy that suggested Kreacher had been taking notes on Harry's preferences. Fresh fruit arranged in geometric patterns that would make architects weep. Hot chocolate topped with enough whipped cream to violate structural engineering principles.

"Happy birthday, Pup," Sirius said, and his voice cracked slightly in that way that meant he was feeling things and trying desperately to hide it behind casual enthusiasm and British emotional repression. His storm-gray eyes were suspiciously bright. "Eleven years old. Merlin's saggy balls, when did you get so tall? Last time I checked, you were like three feet high and could barely reach the cookie jar without a stepladder."

"That was three months ago."

"Exactly! Time's being a complete dick about this whole 'passing' thing. Very rude. I've filed a complaint with the universe. They haven't responded. Typical customer service."

*"Your godfather's coping mechanism for emotional vulnerability is humor,"* Drakor observed with clinical detachment. *"It's actually quite healthy for someone who spent twelve years in a prison designed to drain happiness through supernatural means. Although his joke quality needs work. 'Merlin's saggy balls'? Really? That's the best he could do? I've heard better insults from newborn cosmic entities who haven't learned language yet."*

*Be nice. It's my birthday.*

*"I'm ALWAYS nice. I'm the nicest cosmic entity in seventeen dimensions. Ask anyone. Actually, don't—they'll tell you I'm a sarcastic asshole with delusions of grandeur. But I prefer 'nicest.' It sounds better."*

Sirius set the tray down with practiced ease and sat on the edge of the bed, his posture all casual grace that made everything look effortless even though Harry could see the careful way he was watching Harry's reactions. "How you feeling? Nervous? Excited? Experiencing the kind of existential dread that comes from never having celebrated your existence before and not knowing how to process positive attention from people who actually give a shit about you?"

*"All three,"* Drakor supplied helpfully. *"Plus he's convinced everyone will suddenly realize they don't actually like him and leave mid-party. Which is statistically absurd but emotionally valid. Human brains are weird. Terrible design. If I'd been in charge of human evolution, I would've made better choices. Starting with 'less anxiety' and ending with 'more resistance to cosmic horror.'"*

"All three," Harry admitted, because lying to Sirius seemed pointless when you had a cosmic entity providing live commentary on your emotional state.

Sirius's expression went soft in a way that made Harry's throat tight and his eyes prickle. "Okay, listen up because I'm only saying this once before I go back to being emotionally unavailable and aggressively British. Today is your day. Not a performance. Not a test. Not an audition for whether you deserve happiness or positive human interaction. Just your day. People who genuinely care about you—and trust me, there are a shocking number of them—want to make you happy. That's literally it. That's the whole entire thing. No hidden agendas, no secret tests, no performance reviews."

He reached out and aggressively ruffled Harry's hair with obvious affection. "And if anyone—*anyone*—tries to make you feel bad or uncomfortable or like you need to earn their approval through proper gift-receiving etiquette or whatever bullshit pure-blood families think is important? They answer to me, Remus, Andromeda, Amelia, several Weasleys who've decided you're theirs now and will fight anyone who disagrees, and a cosmic entity who has Very Creative Ideas about educational violence."

*"Specifically, I will introduce them to pocket dimensions filled with their own worst birthday memories on loop,"* Drakor said with the enthusiasm of someone describing their favorite hobby. *"It's very educational. Makes people reconsider their life choices. Some of them cry. Some of them beg for mercy. Some of them emerge with newfound appreciation for treating children with basic human decency. It's beautiful. I'm like a twisted life coach with reality-warping powers. I should charge for this service."*

"Thanks, Sirius," Harry said, feeling some of the tension in his chest ease like someone had loosened a too-tight belt. "I just... I've never done this before. Had a birthday, I mean. A real one. What if I don't know how? What if I mess it up?"

"Then you learn," Sirius said simply, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Same way you've learned everything else—by trying, occasionally eating shit in spectacular fashion, and having people who care about you help scrape you off the metaphorical pavement. Plus, you've got the best possible backup system: a godfather with extensive party chaos experience, a house-elf whose dedication to hospitality borders on militant, and a cosmic entity whose contingency planning makes the Pentagon look like amateur hour."

*"I have seventeen backup plans,"* Drakor confirmed proudly. *"Ranging from 'minor social awkwardness requiring gentle intervention' to 'complete disaster requiring reality restructuring and possibly time manipulation.' I've prepared for everything from dropped cakes to assassination attempts by bitter pure-bloods who can't handle your progressive ideals and suspiciously advanced knowledge of justice reform. I've got plans for scenarios that haven't even been invented yet. I'm prepared for problems that don't exist. That's how good I am at contingency planning."*

"Assassination attempts?" Harry squeaked, his voice going up an octave.

"Extremely unlikely," Sirius assured him quickly, though his casual tone suggested he'd definitely considered it. "Amelia's got security that could protect nuclear launch codes from a coordinated international heist. Plus, you know, Drakor. Anyone stupid enough to attack an eleven-year-old's birthday party will discover why 'attacking someone bonded to a cosmic entity' is traditionally considered a Darwin Award-level decision that removes you from the gene pool."

*"So many regrets,"* Drakor agreed cheerfully. *"The kind that fundamentally reshape your understanding of consequences and your place in the universe. I'm talking existential trauma. Life-altering perspective shifts. Permanent psychological scarring that makes them better people through sheer terror. It's great. I'm like a very aggressive therapist with reality-warping powers and no ethical oversight committee."*

*That's terrifying.*

*"Thank you! I work hard on my terrifying persona. It's nice to be appreciated."*

Harry took a bite of pancake, the chocolate chips melting on his tongue in a way that suggested Kreacher had been personally training with celebrity chefs and taking extensive notes on Harry's preferences. "Okay, so what's the plan? When do people show up? How formal is this? Do I need to give a speech? Am I supposed to have prepared remarks?"

Sirius pulled out a schedule that looked like military operations planning. Color-coded by activity. Annotated with timing precision. Cross-referenced with backup protocols. Possibly classified. "Party starts at two. We're doing presents first—"

"First? Before everything else?"

"Absolutely first. Because you're eleven and if we make you wait until after food and games, you'll spend the entire party staring at the gift table like a puppy who's been told the treats are just decorative and not for eating. This way you get to enjoy your presents properly, play with whatever awesome shit people got you, and not spend the entire party distracted by unopened packages. It's basic child psychology."

*"Strategic psychological management,"* Drakor observed with approval. *"Your godfather understands neuroscience better than most professionals. It's actually impressive for someone who spent twelve years in a prison designed to drain happiness and sanity. He's either naturally brilliant or he's been studying child development in his spare time. Either way, respect."*

"Wow, thanks for that backhanded compliment, Drakor," Sirius said dryly, apparently able to hear cosmic entity commentary now through some mechanism Harry didn't entirely understand. "Really appreciate the vote of confidence mixed with reminders of my traumatic incarceration."

*"You're welcome. I'm here to provide support and occasional brutal honesty. It's called 'balance.' Look it up."*

"Can everyone hear Drakor now?" Harry asked, slightly concerned about the implications.

"Only when he wants us to," Sirius replied. "Which is usually when he's being a sarcastic asshole and wants maximum audience for his commentary. He's like a stand-up comedian who demands attention."

*"I prefer 'performance artist' but sure, let's go with 'stand-up comedian.' Undersell my cosmic magnificence. That's fine. I'm not hurt. My feelings aren't wounded. I'm definitely not planning seventeen different ways to make your morning coffee taste like regret."*

"After presents," Sirius continued, consulting his schedule with practiced ease, "lunch. Kreacher's prepared enough food to feed the entire Hogwarts student body with leftovers sufficient for the apocalypse. There will be multiple cakes because apparently one cake is insufficient for making up eleven years of lost celebration time. Then games, activities, treasure hunts, and whatever chaos the twins unleash for entertainment purposes."

"What kind of games?" Harry asked, trying to imagine anything from Quidditch demonstrations to the kind of party games that made children's entertainment look like elaborate psychological experiments.

"Treasure hunt through the house," Sirius listed, clearly pleased with his planning. "Kreacher's hidden clues all over Grimmauld Place, each one leading to the next, with the final treasure being something I'm not telling you about because surprises are important for proper birthday experiences. Also some magical party games Andromeda suggested—apparently they're very popular with young witches and wizards, involve showing off magic skills without being dangerous, and are entertaining for all ages. Plus whatever improvisation happens naturally when you put this many kids together with magical abilities and questionable adult supervision."

*"I will be supervising,"* Drakor announced with the authority of someone who'd decided this was now his sacred duty and anyone who disagreed could fight him in pocket dimensions. *"Ensuring proper safety protocols while allowing adequate chaos for entertainment. Children need structured freedom to develop properly. Too much control stifles creativity and produces boring adults. Too little supervision results in property damage, dimensional rifts, and incidents that require Obliviators. I will find the perfect balance because I'm excellent at everything I do."*

"Dimensional rifts?" Harry repeated weakly.

"Theoretically possible when you combine Weasley twins' creative magic with pure-blood family traditions and international guests who have different approaches to magical ethics," Sirius said cheerfully, like he was discussing weather patterns instead of potential reality-breaking disasters. "But that's what Drakor's for—making sure the chaos stays entertaining instead of catastrophic."

*"Precisely. Chaos management is one of my core competencies. I'm basically a chaos sommelier. I curate it, refine it, ensure optimal entertainment value without crossing into actual disaster. It's an art form. I'm an artist. A beautiful, terrifying artist who occasionally eats concepts and has opinions about restaurant ambiance."*

The door burst open—apparently knocking was entirely decorative today—and Tonks practically exploded into the room with the energy of someone who'd consumed their body weight in caffeine and decided that volume was the most important aspect of human communication.

Her hair was bright purple with silver streaks—birthday colors, Harry realized. She was carrying a wrapped present that was vibrating slightly and emitting soft musical notes that suggested either magical enchantment or the package contained something alive and possibly illegal.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MINI-POTTER!" she announced at a volume that could've registered as a sonic weapon. "Eleven years old! Officially a wizard! Ready to terrify Hogwarts with your cosmic entity partnership, suspiciously advanced knowledge of justice reform, and concerning ability to make friends with everyone from French dignitaries to Slytherin heirs!"

She swept into a theatrical bow that nearly knocked over a lamp, a chair, and possibly the fundamental laws of physics. "Your favorite cousin—don't argue, it's true—here for birthday celebration purposes. Mum told me to be helpful, Dad told me to be respectful, and Sirius told me to be entertaining. I plan to achieve all three through sheer force of personality and these absolutely brilliant presents I found through morally questionable shopping methods."

*"The Metamorphmagus has excellent energy,"* Drakor observed with approval. *"Chaotic, enthusiastic, completely unfiltered. She's like a hurricane made of personality and hair dye. I respect that enormously."*

She set the musical package on Harry's desk where it continued humming an off-key version of "Happy Birthday" that suggested either amateur enchantment or the magical equivalent of a drunk piano. "Presents plural because I love you and also because I'm trying to compete with whatever excessive gifts the pure-blood families are going to give you. Can't let the Malfoys or Greengrasses show me up. Family pride is at stake."

"Presents plural?" Harry asked, eyeing the vibrating package with growing curiosity and slight concern about whether it would explode.

"Obviously. One from me personally, acquired through methods I'm not discussing because Mum would murder me. One from Mum and Dad who want you to know they care about your existence and birthday celebration even though they're currently at St. Mungo's dealing with someone whose skin turned into temporary wallpaper. Potion accident. Very gross. Extremely disturbing. Not appropriate for birthday morning conversation. The Healers are traumatized. There might be therapy involved."

She flopped into Harry's desk chair with the casual grace of someone completely comfortable invading personal space. "So, birthday boy, how you feeling? Nervous? Excited? Experiencing the unique psychological cocktail of 'I've never done this before and what if I'm bad at having a birthday?'"

"All of the above," Harry admitted.

*"The Metamorphmagus demonstrates excellent emotional intelligence,"* Drakor observed. *"Recognizing your anxiety and addressing it through humor and casual acceptance rather than sympathy or pity. Superior social skills. She's like a therapist who actually understands human psychology instead of just reciting textbook phrases."*

"Well, stop being nervous," Tonks commanded with the authority of someone who'd decided this was now her responsibility. "You've got brilliant people coming to celebrate you, excellent presents waiting to be opened, and eleven cakes that'll make even the most jaded party guests reconsider their life choices and relationship with refined sugar. Plus me. I'm going to provide running commentary on everything and make sure nobody gets too formal and boring. That's my official role today—chaos prevention through strategic chaos deployment."

"That's not actually reassuring," Sirius said, but he was grinning in a way that suggested he found Tonks' philosophy entirely reasonable.

"It should be," Tonks replied with absolute confidence. "I've been to approximately one million pure-blood parties in my lifetime—okay, maybe seventeen, but they felt like one million—and they're all the same. Stiff, formal, everyone pretending they're having a wonderful time while secretly networking and judging each other's gift choices. Your party's gonna be different. Actual fun, actual friends, actual celebration of your existence instead of strategic networking disguised as birthday wishes."

She leaned forward conspiratorially, her purple hair shifting to pink with her enthusiasm. "Plus, the twins promised me they're doing something spectacular for entertainment. They wouldn't tell me specific details, but Fred's expression suggested either minor pyrotechnics or major violations of reasonable safety standards. George was grinning like someone who'd successfully committed the perfect crime. I'm very excited. Also slightly concerned. Mostly excited."

*"The twins' creative magic could be extremely problematic,"* Drakor said with what might have been concern or anticipation—with him, it was hard to tell. *"Their approach to entertainment values spectacle over survival odds. They see 'safety regulations' as suggestions rather than rules. I'll be monitoring their activities closely to ensure adequate supervision and minimize property damage while still allowing enough chaos for entertainment value."*

"They've been planning this for weeks," Tonks continued, clearly enjoying Harry's growing mixture of excitement and terror. "Charlie told me they see this as their big debut performance for their 'educational enhancement' philosophy. They've got notebooks. NOTEBOOKS, Harry. Full of ideas and diagrams and what looked like explosion radius calculations. Whatever they're doing, it'll be memorable. Possibly traumatizing. Definitely entertaining. Might result in minor property damage."

*"If they damage Kreacher's decorations, I will introduce them to educational experiences involving their own worst fears,"* Drakor said pleasantly. *"Nothing permanent. Just enough to teach respect for hard work and artistic vision. Very educational. They'll emerge better people. Probably."*

"Don't terrorize the twins on my birthday," Harry said, though he was smiling.

*"I'm not terrorizing them. I'm providing proactive behavior modification through clearly established consequences. It's called 'parenting.' Look it up."*

"You're not their parent."

*"I'm a cosmic entity. I can be whatever I want. The rules are made up and the points don't matter. Speaking of which, we need to discuss your outfit for today."*

"My outfit?"

*"Obviously. You can't just wear any random clothes to your first proper birthday party. This is a significant life event. There are standards. I have opinions. Many opinions. Detailed opinions about color coordination and fabric choices."*

"Since when do you care about fashion?" Harry asked incredulously.

*"Since always. I'm a cosmic entity of refined taste. I eat concepts and have opinions about restaurant ambiance. Obviously I care about fashion. It's called 'having standards.' You should try it sometime."*

Tonks snorted with laughter. "Your cosmic entity has opinions about your clothes? That's either adorable or concerning. Possibly both."

*"It's neither. It's PRACTICAL. The birthday celebrant should look appropriate for the occasion. Not too formal—we're not trying to look like pure-blood stick-in-the-muds. Not too casual—we're not savages. Something that says 'I'm comfortable, confident, and ready to celebrate my existence.' I've already selected the optimal outfit from Harry's wardrobe. He'll wear it or I'll make his breakfast taste like disappointment."*

"You can't make my breakfast taste like disappointment—"

*"Watch me. I'm a cosmic entity. I can manipulate reality on molecular levels. Making your pancakes taste like existential regret is well within my capabilities. Don't test me, birthday boy."*

"Is he always like this?" Tonks asked Sirius with obvious amusement.

"Always," Sirius confirmed. "Bossy, sarcastic, weirdly invested in Harry's wellbeing, and capable of making threats that are simultaneously hilarious and mildly terrifying. It's actually kind of great. Like having a really aggressive life coach who can bend reality."

*"THANK you. Someone appreciates my efforts. Harry, take notes. This is what proper gratitude looks like."*

Harry took another bite of pancake, feeling warmth spread through his chest that had nothing to do with the hot chocolate. "Okay, fine. What's the optimal outfit?"

*"The dark green shirt—brings out your eyes and coordinates with the party decorations. Black trousers—casual but not sloppy. The dragon-hide boots Sirius bought you—practical, stylish, says 'I'm a wizard but I'm not trying too hard.' Perfect for your first birthday. You're welcome. I'm brilliant. Everyone should acknowledge my brilliance."*

"Those boots cost more than most people's monthly rent," Harry protested.

*"And? They're high-quality, magically reinforced, and you deserve nice things. Stop arguing with me. I'm trying to help you look good for your birthday photos. Future you will thank me. Present you needs to shut up and accept my superior judgment."*

Tonks was grinning so wide her face looked like it might split. "I like your cosmic entity. He's got personality. Most cosmic entities in the literature are all mysterious and cryptic. Yours is like a snarky older brother with reality-warping powers."

*"I prefer 'magnificent mentor with justified superiority complex' but sure, let's go with 'snarky older brother.' Undersell my cosmic magnificence. That's fine. I'm not hurt. I'm definitely not planning to make your morning coffee taste interesting."*

"You can't make Tonks' coffee taste like anything—she doesn't live here," Harry pointed out.

*"You underestimate my reach and my commitment to petty revenge. I'm a cosmic entity. I can manipulate beverages across significant distances if I'm sufficiently motivated. And I'm ALWAYS sufficiently motivated when it comes to defending my honor."*

Sirius stood up, checking his pocket watch with practiced ease. "Alright, we should probably let Harry finish breakfast and get ready. We've got three hours before official party start, but knowing Molly Weasley's approach to punctuality, expect early arrivals. She'll probably show up at one o'clock because being late to an eleven-year-old's first birthday party would violate her moral code."

"What about the other families?" Harry asked.

"Greengrasses will arrive at exactly two because pure-blood punctuality is sacred," Sirius said. "Malfoys might be fashionably late because that's how they establish dominance—letting everyone know they operate on their own schedule. Delacours could be anywhere in that range depending on whether Gabrielle's enthusiasm overrode her parents' sense of proper timing."

*"Probability analysis suggests the small French human will attempt early arrival through sheer force of will,"* Drakor added. *"Her excitement levels have been building for seventy-two hours. She's like a countdown timer made of enthusiasm and existential curiosity about whether I'll eat anything today. It's flattering, really. Most humans are terrified of my dietary habits. She's fascinated. I respect that enormously."*

"Right," Harry said, taking a deep breath and trying to channel some of Sirius's casual confidence. "So I've got a few hours to finish breakfast, get dressed in Drakor-approved fashion, panic quietly, and prepare for what's probably gonna be the best day of my life so far."

"That's the spirit," Tonks encouraged, standing up and heading toward the door. "Embrace the anxiety, channel it into excitement, and remember everyone coming today genuinely wants you happy. Nobody's keeping score, nobody's judging your gratitude levels or gift-receiving performance, and if anyone tries to make you feel bad, they'll be educated by your cosmic entity about proper birthday etiquette."

*"Comprehensively educated,"* Drakor confirmed with dark satisfaction. *"With visual aids, experiential learning modules, and possibly temporary existence in pocket dimensions designed to teach empathy through immersive suffering. Very effective. Five-star reviews from previous students. Well, they WOULD give five-star reviews if they could still form coherent thoughts after the experience. Minor detail. Not important."*

*That's actually kind of horrifying.*

*"Thank you! I work hard on my horrifying educational techniques. It's nice to be appreciated. Now eat your breakfast, get dressed, and prepare yourself for the best birthday party in the history of birthday parties. I have seventeen backup plans, unlimited cosmic power, and a deep personal investment in ensuring your happiness. Nothing's going to go wrong. And if it does, I'll fix it through aggressive reality manipulation. You're welcome. I'm the best."*

Harry laughed despite himself, feeling his anxiety ease slightly. This was really happening. His first real birthday. Actual friends. A godfather who cared. A cosmic entity whose idea of support involved aggressive positivity reinforcement and pocket dimensions for anyone who tried to ruin his day.

This was going to be perfect.

Or at least perfectly chaotic in ways that made for excellent memories and minor property damage.

Either way, Harry was ready.

*"That's my host,"* Drakor said with satisfaction. *"Embracing inevitable chaos with optimism and reasonable expectations about property damage. You're learning. I'm so proud. If I could cry, I would. Fortunately, I'm a cosmic entity and therefore above such pedestrian emotional displays. But emotionally? Tears. So many hypothetical tears of cosmic joy."*

"Stop being sappy," Harry said, but he was grinning.

*"I'm not being sappy. I'm being PRACTICAL. There's a difference. Now eat your breakfast before it gets cold and Kreacher's feelings are hurt. The house-elf has been working since dawn. Show some respect."*

Harry ate his breakfast, got dressed in his Drakor-approved outfit, and prepared to face his first real birthday with something that felt remarkably like confidence.

Time to see what happened when cosmic entities, international friendships, eleven birthday cakes, and whatever chaos the twins had planned all converged in one thoroughly reformed pure-blood mansion.

This was going to be interesting.

*"Interesting is one word for it. Catastrophically entertaining is another. Magnificently chaotic is a third option. Either way, I've got front-row seats, seventeen backup plans, and unlimited cosmic power. Let's do this. And by 'let's,' I mean you do the social interaction thing while I provide running commentary and occasional reality manipulation. It's called 'teamwork.' We're very good at it."*
