Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 - Mirror Worlds

===[Sky Screen]===

Faust: "Since this works by whisking out one of our limitless possibilities from the mirror worlds, it'll have overwritten a part of our memories. You'll get used to it in no time."

===[Line Break]===

Qin Dynasty

"Mirror worlds!? Possibilities!?" Qin Shi Huang exclaimed in shock.

This means that this technology allows you to see yourself in different worlds, which is simply amazing.

Han Dynasty

"Wow, this is truly divine skill!" Emperor Gaozu of Han exclaimed.

So, does this mean I can see a world where Xiang Yu triumphs?

Tang Dynasty

"Possibilities..." Emperor Taizong of Tang pondered.

Faust mentioned that she was connected to Yi Sang, who, even if he wasn't developing this technology, was definitely a genius.

Song Dynasty

"So, will I also be able to see a world where my Great Song Dynasty has successfully recovered its lost territories?" Yue Fei pondered, gazing at the Sky Screen.

"General Yue, the imperial court has issued another decree to withdraw the troops!" a soldier shouted into the tent.

Ming Dynasty

"So, does this mean I can also see the choices I made in different worlds?" Emperor Hongwu of Ming pondered.

So, does that mean... there might be a world where the one who inherits the throne isn't Biao'er?

What am I thinking? How could this be?

Qing Dynasty

"Hmph! Messy tricks and gimmicks," Emperor Qianlong said disdainfully.

No matter which world it is, in the end, it will be my Great Qing that unifies the land.

Rodya: "Whoa, hang on… That sounds a bit dangerous, don't it? What if I'm no longer my old self by the end? Heheh."

Vergilius: "..." (A/N: For details, please refer to Leviathan; I won't go into them here.)¹

Faust: "Don't mistake yourselves for the Ship of Theseus. While it is true that you borrow the Identities and their memories, the system is designed to ensure that you retain control over your own existence."

Yi Sang: "Different though your reflection may be, it is bound to vanish once you walk away from the mirror."

===[Line Break]===

The Roman Empire (date unknown)

"If the wood on Theseus' ship is gradually replaced, and none of the wood is the same as the original wood, will the ship still be the same ship?" Plutarch asked.

Just like this magical mirror, another version of myself from another world possesses me. So, am I still myself at this moment?

Japan (20th century)

"Myself... cough cough cough..." Kim Hae-gyeong² muttered weakly from his sickbed.

Was it related to the "self" reflected within the Sky Screen, or perhaps to the literary exchanges once shared among the members of Guinhoe (the Circle of Nine)?

Back then, the members would regularly gather together, exchanging manuscripts, discussing literature, and recommending books they admired.³

Faust: "...How our capability grows ultimately depends on you, Manager Dante. It will be up to you to decide which figment of possibility fits each situation best."

Outis: "I believe that's what you call a metamorphosis."

Faust: "Yes, I suppose one could say that it is a form of renascence and transformation."

Rodya: "Golly, where'd you learn big words like that?"

Outis: "I picked it up. My prior profession required meeting people from various walks of life."

Gregor: "Transformation, huh…"

===[Line Break]===

Ionia (late 8th century AD)

"Perhaps she met Cyclopes, gods, or remnants of the Trojan War along her journey home." Homer remarked thoughtfully.

From Outis' words, it seemed the war had already ended, and she was merely trying to return home.

Austria (20th century)

"He has yet to truly experience the feeling of waking one morning to find himself transformed into a monstrous vermin," Kafka murmured.

"Though perhaps... suddenly, one day, he may transform completely into a vermin as well."

(A/N: Add more paragraph comments; it's too monotonous.) (T/N: Y'all hear the Author? I also like them comments)

=====

T/N:

¹: Search up Leviathan Project moon, it's a comic book featuring Vergilius and Lapis... I'll lore drop a bit, Lapis was captured and experimented by a group. Later, she would become the sole survivor of it, though her identity changed into that of Charon. Y'all should try reading it. It's freely shared.

²: I just realize Kim Hae-Gyeong's name was wrong, I trusted the mtl, which resulted in Kim Hae-Kyung, but that was wrong. Sorry guys.

³: Kim Hae-gyeong part was a bit confusing but after some thinking. I think through literature and discussion, the members were constantly exposed to different perspectives and "versions" of themselves, somewhat similar to how Mirror Worlds reflect alternate possibilities of a person. That's why Kim Hae-gyeong connected both of those points.
