Chapter 62 - EPILOGUE

Five Years Later

The Hale estate no longer felt like a place haunted by secrets.

It had become a home.

A real one.

The gardens were brighter, the halls were filled with laughter, and the silence that had once carried so many painful memories had finally disappeared.

Outside, the afternoon sun warmed the lawn.

Raven sat on the grass, her black shirt slightly wrinkled as she tried to keep up with a tiny blur running circles around her.

"Angel!"

The little girl stopped.

She turned around with a mischievous smile.

Raven pointed at her.

"Come back here."

Angel giggled.

"No!"

Raven laughed.

"You little troublemaker."

Angel was three years old, with soft curls, bright eyes, and enough energy to exhaust an entire room.

She ran toward Raven again.

Raven opened her arms.

Angel jumped straight into them.

"Got you."

Angel squealed with laughter as Raven lifted her into the air.

"Again!"

"Again?"

Angel nodded enthusiastically.

Raven shook her head.

"You're going to make Grandma angry if I spoil you too much."

Angel immediately grinned.

"Grandma!"

Raven laughed.

"You haven't even seen her yet."

Angel pointed toward the house.

"Grandma!"

Raven looked over her shoulder.

Vanessa stood at the doorway.

She had been watching them with a smile.

The moment Angel saw her, she wriggled out of Raven's arms.

"Grandma!"

She ran across the grass.

Vanessa opened her arms.

"My angel!"

Angel crashed into her embrace.

Vanessa laughed as she lifted the little girl.

"I missed you."

"I missed you too!"

Raven watched them with a smile.

There had been a time when Vanessa had only been able to watch Raven from the shadows.

A time when she couldn't call herself her mother.

Now she was Grandma.

And somehow, that made everything feel even more beautiful.

Vanessa kissed Angel's cheek.

"Have you been troubling your mother?"

Angel pointed at Raven.

"She started it."

Raven gasped.

"I did not!"

Vanessa laughed.

"Of course you didn't."

Angel giggled.

Raven walked toward them.

"She's been running me around the garden for twenty minutes."

Vanessa smiled.

"You survived."

"Barely."

Angel reached for Raven.

"Mommy!"

Raven took her.

"Yes, my love?"

"Play!"

Raven sighed dramatically.

"Again?"

Angel nodded.

"Again."

Vanessa laughed.

"She definitely got your stubbornness."

Raven looked at her.

"Definitely not mine."

Vanessa raised an eyebrow.

"Raven."

Raven smiled.

"Okay. Maybe a little."

---

Inside the house, Eleanor stood by the large windows.

One hand rested gently over her growing stomach.

She watched Raven and Angel outside.

A smile spread across her face.

She looked down at her belly.

"Your sister is exhausting your mother again."

She paused.

Then smiled softly.

"And you're not even here yet."

Footsteps approached.

Raven entered carrying Angel.

Angel immediately reached for Eleanor.

"Mommy!"

Eleanor laughed.

"Come here, baby."

Raven placed Angel down.

The little girl ran into Eleanor's arms.

Eleanor kissed her forehead.

"Did you behave?"

Angel nodded.

"Yes."

Raven folded her arms.

"That is a lie."

Angel looked at her.

"No lie."

Eleanor laughed.

Raven smiled.

"You see what I deal with?"

Eleanor looked at her.

"You love every second of it."

Raven's expression softened.

"Yes."

She stepped closer.

Eleanor reached for her hand.

Raven took it.

Their fingers intertwined.

For a moment, neither said anything.

They simply looked at each other.

Five years.

Five years since everything had changed.

Five years since Raven had stopped running from her past.

Five years since she had finally found Vanessa.

Five years since she and Eleanor had chosen each other completely.

And now—

A home.

A child.

Another baby on the way.

Raven gently placed her hand over Eleanor's stomach.

"Can you believe there's another little troublemaker in there?"

Eleanor smiled.

"Probably your fault."

Raven laughed softly.

"You blame everything on me."

"Because you're usually responsible."

"Usually?"

Eleanor raised an eyebrow.

Raven leaned closer.

"Come here."

Eleanor smiled.

Raven kissed her gently.

It was soft.

Familiar.

The kind of kiss that carried years of love without needing words.

Angel immediately covered her eyes.

"Mommy!"

Raven and Eleanor broke apart, laughing.

Angel peeked through her fingers.

"No kissing."

Eleanor laughed.

"Why?"

"Because."

Raven crouched beside her.

"Are you jealous?"

Angel shook her head.

"No."

Raven smiled.

"You're lying."

Angel giggled.

Eleanor pulled both of them into her arms.

Raven wrapped her arms around Eleanor and Angel.

For a moment, the three of them stayed that way.

Together.

Safe.

Loved.

Vanessa watched from the doorway.

Her eyes became misty.

Raven noticed her.

"Mom."

Vanessa smiled.

"Yes?"

"Come here."

Vanessa walked toward them.

Angel immediately reached for her.

"Grandma!"

Vanessa laughed.

"Yes, my angel."

She joined the embrace.

Soon, all four of them were laughing in the middle of the living room.

Raven looked around.

At Eleanor.

At Angel.

At Vanessa.

Then she placed her hand over Eleanor's stomach again.

Another little life was waiting to join them.

A life that would never know the loneliness Raven had once known.

A child who would grow up surrounded by love.

Raven smiled.

"I think this is everything."

Eleanor rested her head against Raven's shoulder.

"It is."

Raven looked at her.

"No more secrets?"

Eleanor smiled.

"No more secrets."

"No masks?"

"No masks."

Raven looked toward Vanessa.

"No running?"

Vanessa smiled.

"Never again."

Angel suddenly tugged Raven's hand.

"Mommy."

Raven looked down.

"Yes?"

"Play with me."

Raven laughed.

"Again?"

Angel nodded.

"Again."

Raven looked at Eleanor.

Eleanor smiled.

"Go."

Raven shook her head.

"You're enjoying this."

"Very much."

Raven picked Angel up.

The little girl squealed.

Vanessa laughed.

Eleanor watched them with one hand resting over her belly.

Raven turned back toward her.

Their eyes met.

And in that single moment, Raven knew something she had spent years searching for.

Home was never a place.

It was the people who made you feel safe enough to finally stop running.

Raven smiled at Eleanor.

Eleanor smiled back.

And as Angel's laughter filled the house, Raven held her daughter close while Eleanor carried their next little miracle beneath her heart.

The darkness was finally behind them.

The masks were gone.

The secrets were over.

And the ruthless woman who once believed love was her greatest weakness had finally discovered the truth.

Love had always been her greatest strength.

THE END.
