Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: The Sword Master

"Now entering the ring, standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing in at 155 pounds, he was the second most victories in War Festival history in a storied career that spans over a century, the most senior member of the Four War Powers, it's "Sword"!!!!"

A withered and decrepit old man hobbled into the ring with a walking stick in hand. He had a bald head and a long white beard and mustache. He seemed to be carrying something on his back, most in the crowd assumed that it was his swords.

"Now introducing his opponent, he stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing in at 215 pounds, he's making his War Festival debut, it's Coyote! Fernandez!!!" Toro's younger brother Coyote made his way to the ring with a confident smile.

"Are you sure about sending Coyote out? He's the least experienced fighter out of all of us. To be frank, I don't think he has a real shot at winning." Hezekiah said to Toro.

"Trust me, Coyote is stronger than you think." Toro replied.

Meanwhile, down in the ring, "Sword" had dropped the back that he had been carrying. The bag turned out to be filled with just plain sticks rather than swords as most people in the crowd suspected.

"Huh? It's sticks? I thought it'd be swords." Coyote said.

"Sword" bent over and started to put the sticks into a pile on the ground. "Sword? What is a sword?" The old man said with a cross eyed look on his face.

"Huh? Is just a senile old man or something?" Erik asked.

"No! Coyote look out!" Toro shouted down to his brother with a great sense of urgency and concern.

As soon as the match began, Coyote was dropped to the ground with cuts all over his body.

There was an old Chinese folk story about a man who had become such a master of the bow that he no longer needed a bow to shoot. Eventually, when he became an old man he had forgotten what a bow even was.

The man who was a member of the Four War Powers known as "Sword". Was the living embodiment of this story.

"Is.. is Coyote alright? He looks like he's on death's door already. Should he throw in the towel?" Erik asked.

"I'll admit that this is bad, but with the fate of so many worlds on the line we can't afford to just throw in the towel just to try to save our own skin." Toro replied. Though he wished he could stop the fight to save his younger brother.

Coyote struggled to get back to his feet and as soon as he did he was cut down by the same attack.

"I don't even understand what he's doing. It's like he gets cut down as soon as he moves." Erik said inquisitively.

"I can see the move, but I don't really know how works. If only I could understand it more clearly, then I could help Coyote." Hezikiah said. "What do you think about that technique Toro?"

"It's an attack that unleashes an infinite barrage of slashes at once it's completely unavoidable and unblock-able." Toro replied.

"What?!? That's ridiculous! How can you even stop an attack like that?" Erik asked.

"Could you do an attack like that?" Hezikiah asked Toro.

"Yeah, probably. The only problem is how much aura I would have to expend to do it. It's not nearly efficient enough for me to add a technique like that to my arsenal. Maybe if I did nothing but study the sword for decades or maybe even centuries like that old man had I'd guess that I could work around that issue. Which is what I'm assuming that he did." Toro replied.

"So, Coyote really is in a bit of a tough spot." Hezikiah said as Coyote continued to be easily beaten down by "Sword's" relentless attacks. "Do you really think that he has any chance of winning?" He asked.

"Hmph, I know that you guys don't have a very high opinion of Coyote's fighting ability. However, I can promise you that he's far stronger than you realize." Toro said. As he was speaking Coyote was cut down again. "It may be hard for you guys to believe, but his potential is far greater than mine."

"Huh? You can't be serious. He's never beaten any of us in sparring matches and his power level is clearly the lowest out of any of us." Erik responded.

"It might seem that way to you, but I know differently." Toro said.

"What do you mean?" Erik asked.

"Aura abilities are mostly developed by your individual perception. I always envisioned myself as the strongest and that confidence in my own abilities led to explosive growth in my ability. It's the opposite for Coyote. Our older brother was always the man that we considered to be the strongest, even when we were kids. After our brother disappeared, Coyote started to see me the same way. To put it simply, he saw me as an unsurpassable mountain and as such he could only see his own abilities as inferior."

"So you're saying that his apparent weakness is only due to a mental block?" Hezikiah asked. "Even if that's true, how can he overcome that in such a critical moment?"

"He can't." Toro said bluntly.

"You can't mean that he's just going to die here? There's no way you'd just sent your own little brother out there to die right?" Erik asked.

"Of course not." Toro replied. He then stood tall outside of the ring and shouted towards Coyote. "Brother! You can't lose here! You have to win! Don't let me down Coyote!!!!!!!!"

"Is that really all you have to say?" Erik thought.

Suddenly there was an intense spike in Coyote's aura. The pressure from the ring had now exponentially intensified.

"I, can't , let big brother down. I. Must. Win!"

Coyote's aura had spiked and his power had suddenly become equal to that of his opponent "Sword". This had come as a surprise to everyone in the crowd who had watched Coyote get utterly dominated the entire fight so far.

"Wolf Cruelty Claw!!!!" He said launching his attack which was a punch accompanied by a slashing attack.

The attack was easily blocked by "Sword" who then launched his own infinite slashing attack again and Coyote was struck by it again, but this time he remained standing.

"Wolf Cruelty Claw!!!!!"

The same cycle of Coyote launched his attack, it getting blocked, and then him getting hit by "Sword's" attack continued over and over again. Though Coyote seemed to have gotten stronger the result seemed as if it was going to be the same.

"Why does Coyote only use the same attack over and over again?" Erik asked.

"His ability is called, Wolf Fist. It allows him to mimic the power of a wolf with his attacks. It's a powerful ability, but it's limited." Toro replied.

"Limited?"

"A wolf after all, only has two weapons. Their fangs and their claws. It's not that he isn't trying to use a different attack. It's that he can't."

The cycle of attacks kept on repeating over and over again, though over time it seemed as if Coyote was starting to take less and less damage.

"Wolf Cruelty Claw!!!!!!!!!"

For the first time, Coyote's claws pierced "Sword" and the seemingly invincible sword master had started bleeding.
