A soft nudge against his cheek pulled Nix slowly out of sleep.

'Good morning, Mama Phoenix,' Solaris whispered through the bond, his voice bright but gentle. 'It is time to wake up. I wanted to let you sleep longer, but you asked me to wake you now so you could get ready for the day.'

Nix opened his eyes slowly, lashes heavy with the last traces of sleep. For a moment the room was only soft light, warm blankets, and a familiar little dragon-phoenix pressed close to his face. Solaris nudged him again, cheek rubbing against his own with the shameless affection of a child who knew exactly how loved he was.

"Good morning, my baby," Nix murmured, voice rough from sleep. "Did you sleep all right?"

Solaris froze for half a breath, then tucked his face against Nix's neck as a shy warmth rippled through the bond. His pearl-and-opal scales flushed faintly pink, then deepened into a soft opalescent red that made Nix's smile widen despite himself.

"Aww," Nix whispered, immediately and utterly unrepentant. "My baby gets bashful first thing in the morning. How is that fair? How am I supposed to be responsible when you weaponize cuteness before breakfast?"

Solaris tried to burrow under the blanket with great dignity and failed spectacularly. Only the corner of the blanket managed to drape over his snout, leaving his large dewy eyes visible as he peeked up at Nix through long lashes.

Nix stared at him for one second, then another, and lost the fight completely. Laughter broke out of him, warm and helpless, shaking the last haze of sleep from his chest.

Solaris huffed through the bond, embarrassed but secretly pleased. Nix could feel it clearly. The tiny menace knew very well how powerful his cuteness was; he simply preferred to pretend innocence whenever it benefited him.

Nix reached over and gently scratched beneath Solaris's chin. "All right, all right. I will stop teasing. We have a long day ahead of us, and I promised myself I would not start it by bullying my own baby."

That was only partly true. Teasing Solaris was one of life's great joys. Still, Nix had enough self-preservation to know when to retreat.

He sat up, stretched until his spine gave a satisfying series of pops, and glanced toward the pale morning light sliding through the room. Today was the day production began moving in earnest. Contracts, travel, introductions, cameras, people measuring his every expression before they even knew what to do with him.

Before all of that, Nix needed to move. His thoughts always behaved better after exercise, and his body needed the familiar rhythm of breath, stretch, and controlled strain. Nothing fancy: aerobics first, as much as he hated them, then a familiar routine built from tai chi, yoga, pilates, and calisthenics.

He started with the part he liked least: aerobics.

Nix hated aerobics on principle. It was efficient, irritating, and far too cheerful for an activity designed to make his lungs question their loyalty. Still, he pushed through it. Light steps, controlled breathing, raised arms, twisting stretches, and steady repetition chased the last sluggish traces of sleep from his limbs.

Solaris watched from the edge of the bed, tail curled neatly around his tiny paws. To anyone else, the room would have looked empty except for Nix moving through his routine. Only Nix could see the little dragon-phoenix blinking at him with the grave concern of someone observing a loved one wage war against invisible enemies.

'Mama looks betrayed by cardio,' Solaris observed.

"Mama is betrayed by cardio," Nix muttered between breaths. "Cardio knows what it did."

Solaris's delighted little trill nearly made him laugh, which was dangerous when his lungs were already filing complaints.

Once the warm-up loosened his body, Nix shifted into the part he actually enjoyed. His movements slowed, deepened, and sharpened into a hybrid rhythm pieced together across too many lives to belong to any single discipline. Tai chi softened the transitions. Yoga opened the joints. Pilates pulled strength into his core. Calisthenics gave the routine bite.

He moved from balance holds to slow kicks, from plank variations to controlled stretches, from breathwork into strength. Every motion had a purpose. Every inhale counted. Every exhale pressed another anxious thought back into place.

Contracts. Cameras. Choi Yongbok. Lee Eun-ae. StarNet. The strange warning Solaris had given him the night before.

One by one, the thoughts tried to crowd him.

One by one, he breathed around them.

By the time he finished, a thin sheen of sweat warmed his skin, his muscles hummed pleasantly, and his thoughts had stopped behaving like startled birds trapped in a glass room. He was not calm exactly, but he was steadier. Sometimes steadier was enough.

After cooling down properly, Nix showered, completed his skincare with the seriousness of a man preparing for battle, and dressed for the day. By the time he came downstairs, the family breakfast table was already alive with quiet movement, warm light, and the scent of real food.

Pearl-rice steamed in shallow bowls, moon-root broth simmered near the center, and small dishes of fermented moon-greens, sesame-glazed vine shoots, lunar herb pickles, and honeyed night-plum preserves waited between cups of tea. The meal was simple by Beyol standards, but compared with the empire's usual nutri-shake and nutri-loaf nonsense, it felt like a blessing.

Eomeoni looked up first. Her gaze swept over his outfit, paused on his face, then narrowed with the solemn intensity of a mother deciding whether her child had eaten enough to survive public attention.

"Sit," she said. "Cameras can wait. Breakfast cannot."

Nix opened his mouth, perhaps to point out that he had a schedule, but Abeoji lifted his tea with unhurried authority and added, "Your mother is correct. A hungry person makes poor decisions. A hungry person in front of cameras makes memorable mistakes."

"And you," Nuna said, already reaching across the table to adjust the fall of his collar with practiced precision, "are not allowed to make memorable mistakes before anyone signs a contract. At least wait until the second filming day."

Yong-Jae leaned back with his cup, eyes bright with amusement. "Do not encourage him, Nuna. He will take that as permission to become dramatic on schedule."

"I am very professional," Nix protested as he sat.

Three people looked at him. Solaris, invisible to everyone else, hovered near his shoulder and said through the bond, 'Mama, you argued with cardio this morning.'

Nix picked up his spoon with dignity. "I am professionally complex."

That earned the first round of laughter, and the tension he had not realized he was carrying loosened beneath it.

Breakfast moved around him in the gentle, efficient rhythm of family. Eomeoni added extra broth to his bowl before he could refuse. Abeoji reminded him to read every contract line, even if a lawyer claimed it was standard. Nuna fussed over a nearly invisible wrinkle on his sleeve, then warned him not to let stylists touch his hair without asking first. Yong-Jae gave practical advice about producers, cameras, and the kind of people who smiled too much when they wanted something.

They all spoke differently, but the message beneath every word was the same: eat well, be careful, call if something feels wrong, and remember that he did not have to face any of it alone.

Nix lowered his gaze to his bowl for a breath, letting the warmth of the food and the family's concern settle inside him. Yesterday, he had still been learning where everyone fit around him. Today, their worry felt almost natural. Terrifyingly natural. Comfortingly natural.

He did not let himself linger on that thought too long. If he did, he might start having feelings before filming, and that sounded like poor time management.

Instead, he finished every bite Eomeoni placed in front of him, accepted the small wrapped snack box Nuna pressed into his hands, and promised Abeoji—twice—that he would contact the family if anything felt off.

By the time the production shuttle representative arrived, Nix felt steadier than he had expected. Not calm exactly. Never that easy. But he was fed, loved, and grounded enough to step into the day.

The front entrance chimed again, softer this time, followed by Eomeoni's voice welcoming someone inside.

A woman stepped into the dining area a moment later with a tablet tucked neatly against her side and the composed posture of someone who had already solved three problems before breakfast. She appeared to be in her mid-twenties, elegant without trying to draw attention, with dark hair pinned cleanly back and intelligent eyes that took in the room before settling respectfully on Nix.

She bowed with polished precision. "Good morning. I am Bai Yu Ning, assigned by production as your temporary personal assistant and on-site support for The Chef and The Celebrity. I will be accompanying you to the venue today."

Nix rose at once and returned the bow with equal care. "Thank you for coming all this way, Bai Yu Ning-ssi. I will be in your care today."

Her expression softened by a fraction. "Production notes said your family maintains Korean honorifics. I appreciate the consideration. Bai Yu Ning-ssi is perfectly fine, though please do not feel obligated to be more formal than that."

"Then please call me Phoenix while we are working," Nix said. "Beyol Bong Tae-Hwan is fine for documents, but I would rather the production staff and audience know me as Phoenix."

"Understood, Phoenix-ssi," Bai Yu Ning replied immediately. "I will update the public-facing notation and make sure the staff uses your preferred professional name unless legal documents require otherwise."

Near the side of the table, Yong-Jae went very still. Then, with suspicious concentration, he lifted his tea as if the cup had suddenly become the most fascinating object in the room.

Nix noticed.

Bai Yu Ning noticed.

Eomeoni absolutely noticed.

No one said anything, which only made the silence louder.

Solaris's amused little hum brushed through the bond. 'Mama, your family collects interesting people very quickly.'

'Apparently,' Nix replied, keeping his expression innocent through sheer force of will. 'And here I thought Joon-ah and Woo-Young-ah would be my only entertainment before filming.'

Bai Yu Ning's professional tone returned smoothly. "The production shuttle is ready whenever you are. We have a short transfer to the private ship first, then a direct route toward Terra Anka. Contract review and the preliminary briefing will begin after arrival."

Nix accepted the wrapped snack box from Nuna, endured one final round of family reminders, and bowed to everyone with a smile that felt steadier than the nerves beneath it. "I will call when I can. I promise."

Eomeoni touched his cheek once, gentle and quick. "Eat what I packed. Do not skip meals. And if anyone treats you poorly, you tell us."

"Yes, Eomeoni," Nix said obediently, because some battles were lost before they began.

Solaris's amused voice brushed his mind. 'Mama obeys Eomeoni very quickly.'

'Mama values survival,' Nix replied without changing expression. 'There are battles even I know better than to fight.'

'Breakfast battles are sacred,' Solaris agreed solemnly. 'Also, Nuna packed snacks. I approve of the mission supplies.'

Nix's mouth twitched. 'You approve of anything edible.'

'Incorrect. I approve of anything edible, portable, and emotionally supportive.'

Nix nearly laughed aloud and had to disguise it as a small cough. 'Remind me again why I let you advise me?'

Solaris puffed up invisibly near his shoulder. 'Because I am wise, adorable, and the Chief Snack Officer.'

'Self-appointed.'

'Still appointed.'

With Bai Yu Ning at his side, Solaris warm and unseen through the bond, and the weight of his family's concern tucked beneath his ribs, Nix stepped out of the Beyol home and toward the production shuttle waiting outside.

Behind him, the familiar warmth of the Beyol household lingered like a hand at his back. Ahead, beyond the shuttle doors, waited the private ship, the capital, the contracts, the cameras, and the first true step toward a show that might change far more than his public career.

Nix tightened his grip on Nuna's snack box, felt Solaris settle quietly through the bond, and stepped forward.

The day had officially begun.
