[Day-10 (morning)]
[Mirage Corp Medical Facility]
Aurora opened her eyes slowly. Morning light filtered through the blinds and fell in soft bars across the room. It had been three days since she was admitted. The pain was still there, but it was easier to bear now. She could move her arms without wincing. She could sit up a little without feeling like her ribs would split.
Kane sat in the chair beside her bed, and this time he was actually asleep. His head rested against the back of the chair. His breathing was steady. The deep dark circles under his eyes had lightened a bit, but he still looked tired. His shirt was clean, and his hair was damp from a quick wash. He'd gone home last night and returned before dawn, quietly slipping back in to sit watch over her.
"Kane," she said softly.
He opened his eyes at once and sat up straighter. "Aurora. How are you feeling?"
"Better," she said. She meant it. "Dr. Henshaw says I can try walking today. A few steps."
