Wufu is still in mourning; her attire should not be overly opulent, and she herself does not favor such grandeur, as she has always preferred simplicity. The same goes for her jewelry. She likes splendid ornaments, even buying them for the maids around her. Seeing them beautifully adorned lifts her spirits, for beauty is pleasing to the eye and naturally improves one's mood. But as for wearing them herself, she'd rather not; she finds them burdensome.
Visiting the palace, one can't dress entirely in mourning colors. After all, Empress Dowager Mo, the emperor, and others are alive and well. If you dress plainly for the visit, would it not seem inauspicious?
