(3rd person) ((I think))
Inside the lab, all three of the boys were standing around just hanging out and talking while they waited for Professor Oak to return from his lab.
"You guys chose the starter with the type advantages over me, huh, Ashy-Boy, Oli-Boy? Must be worried about my skills," Gary said to the two of them as they waited for Professor Oak to return.
Oliver heard this and laughed. "I'm not that worried about you being my rival that I chose the type advantage. Bulbasaur was my pick because it's one step closer to completing my goal. Besides, Charmander had already been picked, but Bulbasaur was my second choice anyway." Oliver said to Gary as he smirked
Gary, hearing what Oliver said, clenched his hands around the pokeball in his hand. "Oh yeah, Oli-Boy, let's go outside and have a battle, I bet I'd still wreck you even with your type advantage," Gary said confidently as Oliver nodded his head
"Sure, but don't go crying to Professor Oak when you lose horribly," Oliver said as he gripped the pokeball in his hand, as suddenly, Ash jumped in,
"Hey, no fair, I want to have a Pokémon battle," Ash said as he accidentally pressed the button on the front of the pokeball, letting the Pikachu loose.
Suddenly, Oliver jumped back, expecting a thunder shock, but instead, the Pikachu made a happy noise and climbed right up onto Ash's shoulder, making a "Chuuu" Sound as it nuzzled against Ash's neck, making him laugh
"P-pikachu, calm down buddy," Ash said to Pikachu as he grabbed him and held him up. "Hi Pikachu, I'm Ash, I'll be your trainer from now on," Ash said to Pikachu as Pikachu nodded his head in understanding
Looking at Ash befriending his Pikachu and getting sidetracked by what the three were fighting about, suddenly Professor Oak came back into the room holding a box.
"Ah, it seems that you are getting to know your starter, Ash. Has it shocked you yet? It is quite feisty," Professor Oak said as he shivered. "Professor Pikachu hasn't shocked anyone yet," Ash said as he scratched Pikachu's cheek, and a bit of static came off.
"Oh, that is uncommon. When I first got this Pikachu, he shocked everyone in the lab," Professor Oak said as he started opening the box he brought out.
"Anyways, here you go, kids, these will help you out on your adventure. These are Pokedex." Professor Oak said as he brought out three large, screened Pokedex. Oliver's eyes widened at the type of Pokedex it was.
"Uhh Gramps they look inactive, what is wrong with them" gary asked Professor Oak after he tried turning on the device, this made Professor Oak chuckle "That's because these are unique, You need one of these to make it work" Professor Oak said as he grabbed a pokeball out of his pocket and released a Rotom.
Seeing this, Ash's eyes widened. "So Cool," Both Ash and Oliver said at the same time. In Oliver's past life, he was a big fan of Rotom.
"Haha, yes, they are. These guys go into your pokedex, and it makes them be able to run on their own without charging like the old models." Professor Oak explained to the three boys that as the Rotom flew into the Pokedex Oliver was holding.
Seeing this, all three of the boys are excited. "So Cool/That's real cool," Ash and Oliver said the first while Gary tried to play it cool. The Pokédex then turned on, showing Rotom's face. And then it brings up the pokedex scanner.
The pokedex Scanner then locked onto Pikachu, who was on Ash's shoulder. "Pikachu, the electric mouse Pokémon," The Rotom said as the sheet showing all the moves Pikachu knows pops up, but it closes shortly after.
"That is the Pokédex scan, it scans the Pokémon and shows basic information about the Pokémon and the moves it currently knows," Professor Oak said as he then released two more Rotoms and they flew into the Pokédexes Ash and Gary were holding.
"Now these pokedexes are already registered to the three of you, now when you catch a pokemon, all you have to do is press the pokeball to the pokedex and then it registers it to you," Professor Oak explained as the three boys nodded.
"Here are 5 pokeballs each, they will help you catch any Pokémon you may come across on your adventure." Professor Oak said as he handed the three of them 5 pokeballs each.
"Thank you for these gifts, Professor. They will help us complete our goals," Oliver said as he looked at the pokeball that contained his Bulbasaur in his hand.
Gary then put his pokeball up to the pokedex as he did, the pokeball lit up as the pokedex said, "Squirtle is now registered to Gary Oak." As the screen showed fireworks.
Seeing this, both Ash and Oliver did the exact thing as both of their pokedexes said "Bulbasaur/Pikachu is now registered to Oliver Black/Ash Ketchum." The two pokedexes said as suddenly a blue screen appeared in front of Oliver's face.
[Congratulations, host, on acquiring their first Pokémon (1/1025)]
[Rewards Granted: Luxury Ball x6, Top-tier Bulbasaur food, Inventory Unlocked]
'Those are nice rewards for a first Pokémon completion,' Oliver thought as he smiled at the pokeball in his hand. Suddenly, he looked at Professor Oak with determination.
"Professor, I'm gonna do it." Oliver said confidently as the three people in the room looked at him, confused, "I'm gonna complete the pokedex, not just Kanto's, I'm gonna complete them all." Oliver said as Professor Oak smiled.

(A/N)
I hope you enjoyed the chapter. There might have been a bit too much info dumped in this chapter, but next chapter, it will follow our Mc leaving town and starting his journey
I haven't decided how the milestones will work, but I'm thinking every 25 Pokémon, he'll get a reward unless he catches a rare Pokémon.
