"Did you hear what happened to Claire?"
The words dragged something out of Karl-Franz that he had not felt in a very long time… Urgency. He had been a quiet professional for so many years after Claire left that he could execute a high altitude low opening jump and then conduct immediate combat operations without breaking a sweat.
But now? Now, Karl-Franz felt something stir in his gut as he turned to face his sisters. Trying his best to conceal the panic within, his voice cracked ever so slightly he interrogated the twins.
"What happened? I… Is she alright?"
Maria and Theresa instantly noticed the slightest change in their little brother's expression, despite denying it for so many years, the way he spoke just now, the way his eyes flickered, showed the man still cared about their best friend in ways that he shouldn't.
