Just in a street alley two hundred meters away, John Li clearly saw through three houses the black man pushing a young girl deeper into the alley.
He glanced at his watch, "There are still fifteen minutes until dinner, no problem!" He jumped down from the second floor, and the two steel plates on the soles of his feet made him land lightly in the yard.
John rushed to the destination in large strides. When encountering obstacles, it was like a spring under his feet, and he jumped very steadily. This was the flying ability that John had become familiar with after three years of training.
It felt like stepping on those floating boots from Kamar-Taj.
Although he couldn't fly very fast, he could surpass obstacles at will. The speed was not slow, and within a few hundred meters, in less than a minute, John was already standing at the entrance of the alley.
His golden eye enhancement was still active, and he watched as the black man successfully grabbed the girl's handbag. The man seemed dissatisfied, rubbing his hands and looking at the girl with a sinister smile.
John patted his head, knowing it wasn't going to be that simple.
He brought along a metal baseball bat from home, which belonged to Uncle George. He carried the bat and walked in boldly, but each step he took was one centimeter above the ground, making no sound, like a ghost.
The sky under the setting sun was dark, and the alley was extremely dim. The woman could see the movement in the alley, but the robber could not.
The robber only had eyes for the delicate girl in front of him, like a hungry wolf staring at a piece of plump meat, holding a pistol, and making gestures in front of her.
"If you don't want to die, just be obedient. I just got out of prison, and you don't want me to go back in!"
Drooling, he tore the girl's skirt and touched her.
The woman thought she was going to meet her end there. She bit her lip, unsure whether to resist or obey, but then she saw a figure at the entrance of the alley. A glimmer of hope arose in her heart, but when she saw it was just a child, that hope turned to despair.
She kept signaling with her eyes for him to go quickly, to find the police and call for other adults to help.
John put a finger to his lips in a universal gesture for silence.
He signaled the woman not to speak and walked behind the black man within a few steps.
The woman widened her eyes and looked at John in horror, finding it unbelievable that such a young boy was so bold.
The robber seemed to sense something was wrong and turned around.
Wham!
A big iron rod met his shiny forehead.
With a crisp sound, the robber didn't have time to say a word before he lay down, the gun falling from his hand.
Only then did the woman stand up, tugging at her skirt, but there was a huge tear that couldn't cover her thighs, leaving her looking embarrassed.
John also saw the woman's face clearly, 'Aunt May?'
Aunt May, who had been panicking, relaxed. "John? Why are you here?"
"I, uh, Aunt May, why were you blocked in this alley?" John was also flustered, thinking he wouldn't know the victim.
"John, I was on my way to see Jenny, but he targeted me. It's really disgusting!" May said, kicking the black man fiercely.
The black man moved slightly, showing signs of waking up.
John struck him again with the bat, knocking him out completely.
"Aunt May, let's go. It's not safe here, and it's better not to go out at night!"
"Yes, okay. I need to change my clothes quickly!" Aunt May said, pulling at her torn skirt, picking up her bag from the ground, and following John away from the scene.
As John led the way, he moved his fingers slightly, causing the pistol on the ground to break into several pieces, the bullets turning into copper beads.
As for the black man? From then on, there was a foolish tramp with a big bump on his head in Queens.
On the way, Aunt May asked, "John, why were you in that remote alley?"
"Aunt May, I was just taking a walk. Yes, just a walk. Aunt Jenny mentioned you a lot. I didn't know you lived so close by!" John hurriedly changed the subject.
"Oh, it's hard to explain. Peter's parents... Let's talk about it later!" Aunt May seemed worried.
When they got home, Aunt Jenny was surprised to see Aunt May and invited her to dinner.
At the dinner table, Aunt May shared some shocking news.
"Peter's parents were both with the CIA, so they often left Peter at my house. But a few days ago, the CIA informed me that they both died during a mission!" May said, her eyes red with tears.
"So, Jenny, I don't know what to do. My parents died young, and now even my dearest brother is gone!" May Parker cried, hugging Jenny.
George and John were at a loss. May had lost everything and had nowhere to vent her grief. She couldn't tell six-year-old Peter the cruel truth, so the 26-year-old Aunt May turned to Jenny, who had always been like a big sister to her, for comfort.
John also became silent, eating a few bites of food before returning to his room to lie down.
The movies he had seen before were only a small part of the whole world. But now, living here, he faced real people and learned more.
This Peter was not the one from the Spider-Man trilogy played by Tobey Maguire, nor the Amazing Spider-Man played by Andrew Garfield.
He was Peter Parker without Uncle Ben and without the line, 'With great power comes great responsibility.'
But in Captain America: Civil War, he told Tony Stark, "If I have power and I don't do anything, then anything bad that happens is my responsibility!"
This sentence resonated with Iron Man and deeply affected John. It was one of the reasons why John always went to help after gaining his powers.
Tony and Peter, unlike other superheroes, could have chosen to be ordinary people.
Before Iron Man became Iron Man, Tony Stark never thought about saving the world. He was just an arms dealer. Peter could have hidden his powers and lived a normal life or used them for personal gain.
But they didn't choose to be ordinary. Whether their acquisition of superpowers was accidental or inevitable, they didn't hide or use them for personal profit. They chose to do what heroes should do.
Thinking of the good boy who would face Thanos at the age of fifteen, one of his favorite superheroes, John smiled faintly.
'Peter, I will help you grow up. From now on, I will not let you face the enemy alone!'
