A legacy
These are mysterious treasures dropped by spirits to the one who luck or determination guides him to it. The reason for their actions though is kept in the shadows and the idea that it was spirits who dropped them was based on mere speculations
One undeniable truth though is that the one who manages to get his hands on a legacy has their lives changed forever
The fork in the road led to two paths with the second one being their destination so they entered it. They weren't sure of the first one as the last person to enter it had their entire body torn apart and they died on the spot.
These legacies were initially for three other harem members of the protagonist as a way of plot development in a generic sense.
The plot was supposed to go as so.
Three girls feeling down due to the quick rise of xu wei and had ventured into the ruins to train themselves. The girls then took shelter from the rain and had approached the only cave by the mountain. In curiosity and boredom, they had explored the cave and found the legacy chambers, the place where the legacies and treasures are stored. They then took the legacy and accompanying treasures and progressed quickly in ranks with it becoming the "the three fairies of the east".
But now,
These three girls had their eyes set on the legacy. The only reason why they even knew about this legacy was because this was the first time asura had made his debut as the thieving ruinspawn. He had stolen all their items when he met them due to him sensing hostility from them.
Funny thing was, they were the ones who were seeking him and if they hadn't shown hostility, he may have bonded with them instead.
This all was supposed to happen 3 months from now during the beginning of the academy arc
Approaching the path entrance, they could see a luminescent bubble barrier that does not allow anyone who peers through to see the true secrets of the cave but a damp, dark cave path similarly also at the left path.
Just as they were planning to enter, they saw asura walking up to the left path looking almost entranced by it.

This sudden yell broke asura from his trance and he jumped back in shock. He didn't know why but he felt someone calling him from behind the left path promising him everything he wants from power to luxury and the next thing he knew was that he was moving towards it without realizing.
Despite all this, his ever-sharp instincts do not scream danger but seem to want him to answer the call.
Exhaling a deep breath, they walked towards asura and began lecturing and warning him about the dangers of the left path.
Not like he understood anyways but he certainly didn't like the feeling of being controlled and vulnerable.
Realizing they could only hope for him to not get himself into any trouble. They walked towards the right path.
The reason why neither of them could stay there with him was that the legacy was some form of entrance that only allowed singular entries meaning that if a legacy chamber is entered and a legacy is removed, then no one else can enter the chamber.
It also isn't as simple as storing the second legacy for future use as the legacies will merge with whoever comes within its vicinity. Any remaining unused legacy will be converted into pure energy.
Asura realizing their resolution to enter the path sat down looking like he'd wait. Meng on the other hand felt extremely curious about her new friends and decided to follow them into the path.
Asura noticed it and smiled to her in confirmation.
Seeing his agreement, she ran towards the girls just as they were passing through the barrier
Asura left all alone brought out some meat from his spatial pouch which he had stored earlier and began eating
