My rage cooled just as fast as it appeared once my murdering of the goon was over.
"Hey so like maybe we need to really sit down and talk about boundaries. See I JUST murdered this Hyperion guy who tried to snatch my vault key. Now I don't blame you for wanting it with the whole you digging for a vault of some sort thing but you could have at least TRIED to ask nicely first. No one likes a thief." I sent to Jack sternly.
"What do you want?" he sent back moments later with a brooding tone.
"That's the spirit. Now then I happen to have a certain theory that you might be able to verify for me. The "angel" is a siren isn't she?" I said and the line went silent for a good ten minutes.
"No." he finally sent back.
"So she is a siren! Phase shift right? I admit she did a pretty good job hiding her true nature but there was a few hints here and there that made me suspicious. What confuses me though is theres no record of this siren in any database. I mean MAYBE you just got her before she could be recorded but that would be real hard when the powers first manifested. Control is.... spotty at that time." I said pointedly.
"That's none of your business." he said darkly.
"Normally I'd agree but you see I happen to have a rather vested interest in finding all the sirens, godhood and all that. Since obviously the Siren in question wasn't known to Hyperion that lead me to looking at your history and I found something. Care to say it yourself or must I open that old wound for you by spelling it out?" I asked with a sneer.
"You're bluffing. I personally buried those records where the light would never find them again." he said angrily.
I nodded "You're half right. I couldn't find any public records of that time but private ones are an entirely different matter. You never erased the fact you once had a wife and daughter, only the records of why they seemed to vanish. Well for your daughter that is. Your wifes fate is quite clear." I said casually.
"YOU LEAVE MY WIFE OUT OF YOUR FILTHY MOUTH YOU GODS DAMNED BANDIT!" Jack roared in fury over the line.
"Raw nerve that subject I see. That's fine since we aren't talking about her right now anyways but rather your daughter. No report of death or anything just one moment there and the next gone. And what was her name again? Oh right, Angel! Gotta admit I felt rather fucking stupid not having seen this coming after finding it out but to be fair it is easy to just assume she was dead too." I said knowing I was right.
"You can't have her! I won't let you!" he screeched over the line.
"I don't want your daughter, I just want a copy of her powers. I'm even willing to play nice and trade the key for it instead of just taking it without asking. A nice neat transaction." I said with a grin.
"You'll never touch a single hair on her." He sent back with deadly seriousness.
I shrugged "That's fine. Have fun trying to open that vault without the key." I said cutting the call.
Negotiations fell through but that was A-Okay with me. I didn't need his consent to touch his daughter. Wait that sounded weird. Whatever, the point is I just needed to track down his daughter to copy her powers without any issues at all.-
Seriously with my current kit of abilities there was likely only one way to keep me away from the powers and that was stuffing her into a vault and then throwing away the key in some random black hole. He won't do it though, that little display of his proved that. As for constantly running away to hide her? There was no point. All that would accomplish would be throwing away all the power he currently had just to delay me a bit. Sure he might succeed in delaying the completion of my godhood trait for a few decades but age will kill them both while i'll still be prime and ready. -
Once that happens the powers will naturally move to a new host that will no doubt come to Pandora at some point, I just needed to wait. Really Pandora was a golden magnet for sirens so I'd never let the planet go if I could help it. Still with nothing left to do on the planet I took out my house and teleported back to my office on Promethea.-
I had no doubt however that Jack was going to be playing hardball from now on though. That was fine. Even with the user of phase shift on his side my company had more than enough overwhelming superiority to reduce Hyperion to ash. It would be a waste in my opinion though since all those lives would be ended for one mans selfishness. Hypocritical coming from me but the difference was that when I ended a life that life actually served a good purpose and wasn't wasted. Hell you could even say that those lives lived on within me since I took their lifeforce.-
Anyways I had quite a bit of paperwork waiting for me when I arrived and wasted no time at all getting to work on it. Contrary to what most people seemed to think being the ceo of a company was not just relaxing in a chair all day while your underlings did all the real work, that was only a fraction of the job. The ceo was metaphorically speaking the steering wheel of the company. They say go right and the company goes right. They say wait and it waits. This was done through a vast amount of paperwork.
