"I have my examination at twelve as well," Elowyn said.
Valeria looked up from her cup.
The warmth had finally begun leaving her face.
She had spent the last several minutes directing an unreasonable amount of attention toward her water, mostly because looking across the table reminded her that Lucavion had compared her to an aggrieved wife.
Worse, she had answered him loudly enough for neighbouring tables to hear.
Lucavion had laughed until his shoulders shook.
Valeria still had not decided which part offended her more.
He seemed perfectly recovered now.
"Do you?" Lucavion asked Elowyn. "Then perhaps the Academy has decided I require supervision."
"That seems unlikely," Elowyn replied. "A competent supervisor would have refused."
A brief satisfaction moved through Valeria.
Lucavion placed a hand over his chest.
"And here I thought we had become friends."
"We have spoken for less than an hour."
"I form attachments quickly."
His eyes shifted toward Valeria.
