"Fine."
The answer came with considerably less resistance than Elara expected.
Lucavion had spent enough time examining her offer that she had prepared herself for another question, perhaps three, followed by some deliberately unreasonable condition meant to test whether she truly intended to go through with this. Instead, he simply looked ahead, pressed his thumb once against the side of his finger, and allowed the word to settle between them.
"If that is what you want," he added, "I suppose I can endure it."
Elara raised one brow. "Your confidence recovered quickly."
"It was never in danger."
"You spent the last several minutes searching for reasons to refuse."
"I was examining the arrangement."
"And?"
His gaze slid toward her.
"It remains suspicious."
"That sounds manageable."
"Perhaps for you."
A faint smile touched Elara's mouth.
He had accepted.
