The 666th year of The Apocalypse.
The zombies hadn't besieged the city yet, but the four major bases were already clashing over resources again. The Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Space, Wood Series Abilities battled fiercely, like planets colliding with Earth.
Bai Ren and her arch-enemy fell in the chaos.
Who would have thought, after 666 years of The Apocalypse, that zombies hadn't devoured humanity entirely, but humanity perished by consuming each other. How ironic!
Bai Ren unwillingly closed her eyes.
It was unclear how much time passed before a piercing cry reached her ears, "Don't eat my brother! Please let him go!"
In this heart-wrenching scream of desperation, Bai Ren suddenly opened her eyes.
What she saw was a blaze of fire.
She tried to move but found her hands clamped, unable to budge.
Not far away, there was a grill, burning with fierce flames. A black pot on it was steaming, and it looked like the water was about to boil.
And around the grill, a group of people in tattered clothing, resembling zombies, gathered in front of the pot. One of them held a small child in his hand.
The child, about four or five years old, was crying and struggling, shouting, "Big sister, save me! Big sister, save me."
On the other side, a little girl of seven or eight years was also being dragged away, unable to get closer.
It was the little girl's cry that woke Bai Ren, and she continued to shout: "Big sister, please save my brother! Big sister, please save my brother!"
"Shut up!" The person restraining the little girl impatiently slapped her.
The force of the slap instantly made the little girl's face swell, her vision blurred with stars, and she couldn't speak anymore.
At this moment, the pot on the grill finally sounded with the "bubbling" noise of boiling water.
"The water's boiling, hurry and throw the two-legged sheep in."
One of the guys swallowed a mouthful of saliva, urging.
His urging made several other men nearby tighten their throats.
The dozen or so women behind them stared intently at the boy, their eyes like they were looking at a fat sheep instead of a child.
Bai Ren frowned, she naturally knew what this was. The base had explicit rules forbidding cannibalism, but who knew that in the outskirts, some people would resort to such despicable actions!
She silently clenched her teeth and tried to activate her ability, but nothing happened around her.
Bai Ren looked up, bewildered, and tried to activate her ability again, yet there was still silence.
Where was her ability???
The Twelfth-rank top-tier wood-series ability was her reliance, and now it had vanished?????
Bai Ren was still startled, wondering where her ability had gone when the boiling water splashed out from the pot.
The person holding the child was about to throw him into the hot pot, and the fear in the child's eyes quickly turned to ice.
Bai Ren couldn't care about anything else.
She forcefully twisted her wrist downward. The person holding her hadn't used much strength, and since everyone was eager for the upcoming broth, they were lax and careless, so she broke free unexpectedly.
The strong guy didn't have time to chase her; Bai Ren leaped across in just a few steps. Before the kid could be tossed into the pot, she snatched him into her arms. The child's belt was dipped in the hot pot, and when pulled out, it struck Bai Ren's hand, instantly reddening it.
Bai Ren unconsciously frowned deeply. If the child had fallen into the pot, he would have been cooked instantly.
The person who was about to throw the child didn't expect the girl to rush over suddenly and immediately reached out to snatch him back.
Bai Ren was quick to react, kicking the scalding hot water towards the man's face.
The man didn't expect the little girl to strike so fiercely. Although his survival skills, honed from years of fleeing, barely helped him evade, he was still splashed, and the boiling water immediately blistered his skin.
The man was filled with rage and drew the scythe from his waist, raising it high.
