The sun had risen to the sky when Madelyn woke up, and refusing Agatha's assistance, she hurried through her bathing, and sat down to breakfast alone. Her appetite, entirely absent.
Her thoughts would not leave her. His hands, his voice, the fear she saw in his eyes. It had been frightening. But worse of all, she could not stop her thoughts from lingering on the manner he had treated her.
So, the moment she was free of the dining room, she ordered the carriage and made haste for visitation.
"My dear Miss Stanhope," Mrs Rose exclaimed, as soon as she opened the door, "Oh, this is a pleasant surprise."
"I hope it is right that I came," Madelyn excused with a smile.
"It is, very. When I gave you the address, I expected you to use it." she joked. "Do come in," she ushered her in with utmost delight.
