Chapter 26 - The Siege of Altanisar

The sun shone brightly over the continent of Rampiel as midday arrived.

The walls of Altanisar are covered in vampires as they stand atop holding bows and crossbows alike. They perched on the ridges, awaiting Seraphim's amassed army.

Behind the walls stood Cassiel, the two royal bloods, Jenk, and Albus, all awaiting the order to engage.

Cassiel takes notice of Albus' new aura, his training with Jenk shows clearly, making Jenk smirk seeing his gaze.

Since all five stood close together behind the wall, it practically made a beacon of mana shoot up into the sky for all vampires and humans alike to see their respective power, motivating some vampires, whilst bringing despair on some humans as they drew closer to the city.

Noticing the beacon of mana, Rael steps forward atop his horse.

"Is this supposed to be intimidating? Pathetic bugs." Rael scowls.

Realizing that their beacon of combined mana was in fact intimidating his soldiers, Rael releases his own mana, not all of it, but enough to completely out-size the vampires.

"This is what real power looks like." Rael mocks, gloating.

Back behind the walls, Cassiel, Kislev, Albus, Elysia, and Jenk all take notice of the huge beacon dominating the sky, pushing apart some of the mist that has formed from Altanisar's braziers.

"He fell for it, from this point forward, until we meet him face to face, Rael will believe us vampires to be weak!" A man yells from atop the walls, all vampires hearing in.

It was the vampire's general for this war, Sebastian Stratix.

"Do not give into any taunts they throw our way, we must endure, our pride means nothing in the face of our extinction!" Sebastian continues.

"All archers, be ready to draw your bows!"

As the human army marches ever closer, some arrows are released, only to be blocked by Rael's intense mana aura.

Now in range, mages from the human army stand forward, pointing staffs and wands alike forward.

"Now, take down that wall!" Rael commands, his voice bellowing across the field as human mages begin relentlessly casting tier two and three light magic, along with some fire magic from others.

With the walls and gates of the city being battered and the vampires' arrows proving to be ineffective, Sebastian gives the worried command to finally open the gates, releasing Cassiel, Albus, Jenk, Elysia, and Kislev onto the battle field, being followed by a flood of around 600 other vampires.

Although outnumbered, these vampires were considered some of the best, with multiple of them being over the age of 100.

With the gates being opened, and vampires flooding out to the battlefield, the six human captains leading the battle along with their two generals, step forward.

They were all part of royal families, all thirty to forty years of age, ensuring they had battle experience.

"You six, lead the charge along with the knights, I will join you soon after they stop firing arrows." Rael commands, his very presence shaking the field.

After the clash, multiple humans and vampires alike fell instantaneously.

It was as if the weak were weeded out in the flash of a moment, the numbers only dwindling down ever more as Cassiel worked his way through the knights, slicing through them like a hot knife on butter.

With each swing of his blade, two or more knights would fall.

Kislev and Elysia had stuck together, their training with each other prior made them the perfect duo in combat..

As Kislev punched holes through their armor, Elysia would watch his sides, slicing vital arteries and clearing them out as if they were nothing more than flies.

Albus decided he would go alone, muttering it was for training purposes.

Although, with a slash of his sword, multiple humans would be cut in half, some dying even if his blade hadn't reached them.

Jenk, however, was nowhere to be seen on the battlefield.

Almost an hour had passed.

The blood on the ground was no longer soaked in, rather, puddles had formed, each step causing splashes, further painting the grass blood red.

Vampires and humans laid across the floor alike, arrows were no longer fired as the vampires had run out, and Rael finally released his mana aura, stepping towards the battlefield.

Cassiel, nowhere near out of breath, was still tearing through humans, using his sword along with his magic to absolutely decimate any challengers, until finally being stopped by three of the six captains that had stepped onto the field earlier.

"Finally, some pure blood." Cassiel laughs, mocking them as he steps forward.

"Your end is here, you damn mosquito!" One of the captains yells, readying his sword.

"Your sword... you must be from the warrior family, Aamon. You lot have quite the reputation... how's it feel being second best?" Cassiel mocks, hiding his smirk.

The captain scoffs at this remark.

"I am Belh Aamon, I rank in the top thirty of my family, and your head will rise me toward the ranks I belong in." The captain says confidently.

The two other captains step forward, one holding a staff, the other holding two shields.

"Oh? All three of you at the same time? Fine then, three heads all from different families, what a trophy set." Cassiel laughs, forming his blade as he breathes in.

'Aamon, the warrior family, Havencrest, the mage family, and Aurelius, the shield family... How delightful. This will be one for the records.' Cassiel thinks to himself, a dark grin plastering his face.

"Then, let's hurry and finish this." Cassiel says, dashing forward and appearing in front of the captains in just a split second.

Taken by surprise, Belh steps back, almost tripping over himself.

Moments before piercing him, the captain from the Aurelius family steps forward, blocking Cassiel's sword with his shield.

Cassiel smiles, jumping up and kicking off of his shield, finding himself a couple meters in the air.

The Havencrest captain takes advantage of this moment, bringing her staff up and casting multiple second tier spells.

With over twenty frost spikes hurling towards Cassiel, he laughs as he surrounds himself in his third tier magic, Blood Shield, blocking every attack.

Falling back down to the ground, Belh brings his sword up into a stabbing position.

"ABSOLUTE PUNCTURE!" He roared, stabbing up towards Cassiel as a blinding glow came out from his sword.

…..

On the other side of the battle field, Kislev and Elysia are seen breathing heavily, multiple human bodies around them.

From the dimly lit fog of war, two humans approach, each a captain.
