Marineford
Traning Ground
A heavy silence filled the Marine training arena. The recruits who had been shouting and swinging practice swords a moment ago now stood frozen, eyes wide, lips sealed. Word had spread like wildfire: Vice Admiral 'Divine Fist' Luffy was going to spar against the mysterious new powerhouse—Issho.
In the center of the cleared ring, the two men faced each other, calm as still water.
Luffy stood with his arms folded behind his head, a relaxed smirk on his face.
Issho, on the other hand, gripped his sheathed sword loosely, his blind eyes tilted toward the sky, an easy smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Been a while since I've had a decent warm-up," Luffy muttered, stepping forward and rolling his shoulders, each joint cracked like gunfire.
"I must say," Issho said, voice gravelly and rich, "I've been lookin' forward to meeting you, Vice Admiral. Your reputation runs far ahead of you… 'Divine Fist,' is it?"
Luffy chuckled. "Eh, titles are boring. Just call me Luffy."
The gathered Marines held their breath as Zephyr raised his hand. "No killing blows. No Devil Fruit powers beyond your natural abilities. Begin when ready."
Issho gave a light bow. "I'll try not to break the old man's floor."
Luffy grinned and slid his foot back. "Don't worry, I'll just break you instead."
Whoosh!
Luffy vanished.
A sharp crack echoed as Luffy's bare fist smashed against the flat of Issho's blade, which he had drawn in a blink. The floor beneath Issho's sandals spiderwebbed from the force.
Boom!
Luffy flipped backward, landing effortlessly as Issho tapped the ground with his cane-like sword.
"Nice reflexes," Luffy admitted.
"You hit like a falling star," Issho replied, stepping forward.
Their second clash came in a blur.
Luffy's fists moved like machine-gun fire, each one laced with sharp bursts of Armament Haki.
Issho parried them with minimal effort, deflecting with precise slashes and the occasional pivot of his foot. His sword never fully left its sheath.
The impact of their blows sent shockwaves outward, blowing dust and air in every direction.
One young recruit covered his face. "T-This is insane… they're not even trying yet!"
"They're reading each other," Zephyr said flatly. "This is foreplay."
"Alright," Issho said, tapping his blade to the ground. "Let's test your balance."
The moment the sword touched the floor, a purple wave rippled outward.
It was Gravity, thick and crushing, that descended like a curtain over the arena.
The air trembled, and the dust hugged the floor. The spectators groaned and stumbled, but Luffy didn't even budge.
"...Hoh?" Issho tilted his head. "You're still standin'."
Luffy popped his neck. "You call this gravity? This is what I use for stretching in the morning."
The pressure increased—double, triple—cracks exploded across the platform, but Luffy remained still. His aura flared like a storm beneath calm waters. He lifted his fist slowly, defying the weight pressing against his body.
"Divine Fist First Form… Celestial Breaker."
He vanished, appearing right in front of Issho in an instant. His fist, glowing with emitted Haki, struck downward with a thunderous boom.
BOOOOOOOM!
The arena floor collapsed beneath them as the dust exploded upward like a volcanic eruption.
Marines screamed and scrambled back as rubble flew in all directions.
But when the smoke cleared, Issho stood at the bottom of the crater, his sword fully unsheathed now, both hands gripping it.
Blood trickled down his temple.
"Hah… now that hurt."
Luffy leapt down, landing smoothly across from him.
"Still want more?" He asked.
Issho smiled. "More than ever."
Issho raised his hand toward the sky.
Meteor Pull!
Luffy's eyes narrowed.
A dull roar filled the air. The clouds above parted as a distant meteor was dragged down from the upper atmosphere, glowing red-hot and screaming with friction.
"Oh, that's cheating," Luffy muttered. He reached out with both arms, slammed his palms together, and twisted his hips.
"Divine Fist Third Form… Heaven-Rending Talon!"
A barrage of shockwave-enhanced punches flew upward, striking the meteor mid-air before it could reach them.
Each strike detonated with precision. The boulder shattered mid-fall, burning fragments scattering across the sea.
The crowd gasped.
Even Zephyr blinked. "...So he's refined that move again."
Issho landed beside Luffy, dragging his sword lightly along the broken ground.
"Your control is frightening."
Luffy wiped a trickle of sweat from his brow. "And your aim is annoying."
The two men charged again.
Issho slashed forward, gravity lines trailing behind his blade like ribbon.
Luffy ducked, weaved, and leapt, landing on one hand before launching himself with a spiraling kick.
Issho took the blow to the side and retaliated with a horizontal gravity slash—Gravity Raging Tiger. A roar of compressed space slammed into Luffy's chest and sent him flying backward into a wall.
CRASH!
Smoke billowed out.
But seconds later, Luffy stepped out, shirt torn at the front, a grin on his lips.
"Damn… you're fun."
Luffy's eyes glinted.
"Divine Fist Second Form… Divine Wolf Fang."
With an upward spiral, he launched into the air and brought down a twisting, claw made with fingers infused with Advanced Armament.
Issho barely blocked it, slamming into the earth like a comet, carving a trench fifty meters long.
From the debris, he stood again, this time no longer smiling. His blade was glowing, laced in full-armament Haki.
"Then allow me to return the favor."
He vanished.
Luffy barely had time to shift as a black-coated strike came from the right, then from the left, then from behind.
Issho moved like flowing water, his speed deceptive, his footwork flawless.
Luffy caught the rhythm.
"Divine Fist Fourth Form… Titan's Collapse!"
He stomped, slamming his fists into the ground. Shockwaves pulsed outward like earthquakes, disrupting Issho's footing. In the split second that followed, Luffy's knee crashed into Issho's gut, followed by a brutal elbow to the back.
Issho coughed blood, but twisted mid-fall, sending a final Gravity Implosion wave point-blank into Luffy's face.
BANG!
They flew apart, both panting now, sweat pouring down their brows.
The arena was in ruins.
Recruits stood slack-jawed. Marines had filled the higher balconies to watch. Even a few Vice Admirals were now watching from afar, murmuring among themselves.
Zephyr was grinning ear to ear.
Luffy cracked his knuckles.
"I could do this all day."
Issho chuckled. "So could I. But I think the old man's floor has suffered enough."
Luffy stepped forward, offering his hand.
"Then let's call it. That was fun."
Issho took it, their grip firm and full of mutual respect.
"Truly, you are worthy of the title 'Divine Fist.'"
Luffy winked. "Thanks for the praise. You are really strong, old man. My lazy grandpa will definitely like you."
They laughed.
Zephyr clapped his hands.
"Enough lazing around, you two. Luffy, stop showing off, and Issho—get your ass to the records room, you're still not registered."
"Yes, Sir," They both muttered in unison.
