Avon went to the academy with zero sleep for the night. The language classes hadn't begun yet . They would begin today so he had to attend no matter what.
'If I think about it carefully, there's no point attending the regular theory classes because Ms Aveline is teaching me much better and faster. It will be better if I only attend the language classes as I don't understand the regular theory classes anyway. From today I'll only go to the language class.'
Thinking so Avon entered the academy. There he overheard some people speaking.
"You plan on taking the theory exam the coming week? Why not wait till next month?"
"Nah, I'm fine. I will ace it. I don't wanna waste my time so I'll go today.
"Fine but I won't take it today. I will prepare well this week and then take it next month."
"I knew you would say that. Well then I will go now. I have a test to give"
"Good luck"
'So the dates are out...next week means I have at least 8 days on hand'
Thinking so Avon went towards the language class. There was some time left for it to begin yet so he decided to go slowly .
He reached the classroom and took a seat.
Slowly more and more people started to enter the class and Avon knew none of them. Soon the professor entered and then introduced herself as Mrs.Pamm.
As the class continued, the professor said that the students will the taught Rhonese upto the level necessary for the raid.
It seemed that all the cadets in this class were ones who wanted to join the raid.
After the class ended Avon decided to pass some time until it was the time for his class with Aveline.
He went to the garden near the academy and sat down on the bench. Since he hadn't slept the entire night, sleepiness began overpowering his mind. He tried to resist it but eventually fell asleep.
He woke up after some time hearing some commotion. Upon opening his eyes he saw that everyone was leaving the academy and it was time he left for Aveline's house.
'I fell asleep and I didn't even realize it. I should quickly refresh myself and get to work.'
He washed his face and left for Aveline's house. Upon reaching he knocked the door. Today too, she was wearing casual clothes. Infact she was wearing a tank top. Avon didn't expect that and was caught a bit off-guard as his gaze first fell on her chest and the slight cleavage visible. He didn't let his gaze last there for longer and immediately looked her back in the eye. When she wore casual clothes, he saw for the first time how big her assets were. Then he entered and they began to study. After some time they took a break and spoke about random things. Aveline told Avon about how the administrative system works on the planet and about other things.
Avon had gotten pretty comfortable around her now. They always had meaningful conversations along with some light jokes which deepend their bond.
They discussed various things and exchanged opinions on various topics. Their opinions overlapped on most topics and if they didn't, then both of them had healthy discussions in regard.
They spent quite a few hours together each day.
Aveline had come to like the genuine and hardworking nature of Avon. He was simple in nature but had complex thoughts behind many simple things. Hearing his thoughts fulfilled her in many ways because it spoke so much about his clean character.
Spending so much time together, she could also see that something was weighing his heart down, some responsibility maybe. To cheer him up she offered various delicacies she knew he would've never eated before.
This method worked to some extent too. She had become like a caring elder sister to him. Without realising they had become familiar with each other within a span of just few days.
Like this it went on for another 5 days. Everyday they met and studied and talked. Having almost covered the syllabus, now Avon was relieved. Avon and Aveline had become like friends. They were very comfortable with each other. Aveline always welcomed Avon.
The following day having just finished attending the language class, Avon decided to take a final look at the timing of the theory test. He opened the website and checked the notice section, the moment his eyes scanned the first few characters, his eyes widened and his gut tightened. With his beating hard and fast he stared at the screen,
'The test was today? But I heard them say it was next week!...Nonono!'
Avon was panicking, if the next date wasn't at least 2 days before the raid date, he would be ineligible. Already more than 3 weeks had passed, he couldn't afford this delay.
The language test would happen after 2 more days so that was fine.
As Avon was pacing around in deep thought he heard someone call out his name.
Thamo was standing before him now and had a big smirk on his face.
"Oi idiot. Why are you so worried? Maybe because you messed up something? Worried about the test which you wanted to speedrun? Hmm?"
Thamo spoke in a playful and mocking tone.
"Why do you care" Avon said coldly. This was suspicious. Why did Thamo who was away from him all this time come to trouble him now again.
Avon's mind was already message because of what he just saw and the fact he hadn't slept well at all. He was thin on patience. But of course this didn't mean he would ignore the man who had almost killed. Avon believed that immature people with power were oftne the most dangerous.
"Why do I care? Well because seeing you face any inconvenience pleases me. So tell me how do you feel. You worked so hard all this time. I can see the dark circles under your eyes you know. Even after all this, you missed an exam you were preparing so desperately for. Oh how sad. Well what to do. You needed to be shown your place. You humiliated me and thought you could get away with it. You see, all the people here will follow what I say without questioning me. So when I tell them to talk about the test whenever you are around and constantly talk about it being on the wrong date, of course you will miss it! Only if in your hurry you would have found some time to just actually check the dates...but ofcourse you wouldn't, it was obvious after little observation to know that you didnt double check the things you hear around. I still don't get what's so important about these exams that's got you desperate. Well, that transparent desperation is what allows me to see this expression of fear on your face. Well keep it on for a few days, I'll feel better!"
Saying so he left.
Hearing this Avon's anger flared up. He was manipulated by Thamo.
'I can't believe it! I should've checked the date properly! Now it is even more difficult to get into the raid.'
Avon was angry at himself for falling this dumb trick of Thamo's. Now he has to wait for a week. If only he had checked the date ,Thamo gambled and he succeeded. Indeed of Avon had double-checked all of this could be avoided. But in his rushed state of mind whatever info entered his mind he processed it and planned further on that.
