"Let's play a game of chess."
After lunch, Xu Qinghe took out his chessboard. It was just a rectangular plank, with a grid that he had hand-drawn with a brush—very simple. A big set of chess pieces just right for this wooden board. Seeing that Yicheng didn't move, Xu Qinghe asked, "You don't know how to play?"
"I know a little bit."
Pei Yicheng nodded. Other than medicine, his grandpa's biggest hobby was chess. But since there was always so much to do at the clinic, his grandpa didn't have much time to play.
"Come on."
Xu Qinghe took the red pieces and started setting up.
Pei Yicheng set up his pieces seriously, putting all his college entrance exam energy into it.
Xu Nianji was sitting inside, holding her son to keep cool, watching the two of them under the big tree in the yard, and said, "Nian'an, looks like Dad softened up after what Yicheng said to him."
"I just hope he can do what he said, and not bully our little sister."
