"Really? You're willing to take it? You, I…" Tao An was so excited she couldn't even finish her sentence.
Xu Nianhua handed her some tea and said, "Take your time."
Tao An took a sip of the hot tea, her stomach warmed up, and she finally felt able to speak properly. She said, "Nianhua, don't worry. The editor-in-chief said that as long as you can translate this book, you'll get at least this amount."
Tao An held up four fingers and said, "Four yuan per thousand characters, on average."
Xu Nianhua quietly calculated in her head. Although the book wasn't thick, after translation it would be at least three hundred thousand characters. At four yuan per thousand, that meant over a thousand yuan for the whole book!
That's a lot.
Xu Nianhua was a little shocked herself. The work she'd done before was mostly contract translations, which paid maybe a few dozen yuan, sometimes just over a hundred at best—if she translated instruction manuals, it'd be even less.
