Chapter 629, I Should Have Known It Was Him

Island Lord's Mansion.

Wu Heng entered the room next to the study and looked at two mage skeletons standing in different spots.

These two skeletons were corpses he had purchased from the Snake Emblem Consortium in Lopez City.

After conversion, they had been stationed here to study skills.

The level 11 mage skeleton had already unlocked [Battlefield of the Dead] and [Raise Skeleton].

The level 7 skeleton had only unlocked [Raise Skeleton] and was still learning [Battlefield of the Dead].

After checking their skills—

Wu Heng pointed at the level 11 skeleton, "You're coming with me. I have a mission for you."

The skeleton walked over to Wu Heng's side and followed him out.

The door closed again.

Wu Heng led the skeleton into the study.

Glenda was editing a novel at the desk while Xiaoxiao and Benny chatted about cartoons nearby.

Whether it was movies or cartoons, Glenda watched too, but wasn't as into them. Xiaoxiao and Benny clearly clicked more on that.

Wu Heng glanced at Glenda—she seemed back to her usual self.

Last night, Glenda's 'Unfinished Business' had been unlocked.

It seemed she had made peace with it.

Wu Heng casually opened her panel to check her stats.

[Ghost]

[Level: 18]

[Attributes: Agility 37, Constitution 35, Intelligence 45, Perception 42, Charisma 38.]

[Traits: Invisibility, Incorporeal Movement, Telekinetic Push, Phantom, Enhanced Possession, Soul Bind, Paranormal Phenomena.]

[Skills: Spirit Vision, Telekinetic Sword, Withering Touch.]

Sure enough, the Unfinished Business restriction was gone.

That meant Glenda could continue leveling up.

With the abundance of lingering souls in the zombie world, she might even hit level 20 before he did.

A level 20 ghost—he hadn't heard of such a thing before.

Even the guild's promotional stories never mentioned a level 20 ghost or its title.

Everything else in her stats was unchanged.

From this experience of resolving Glenda's Unfinished Business, Wu Heng also realized something.

It wasn't just about fulfilling a ghost's dying wish.

It was more about helping them let go emotionally.

Glenda had just wanted to know why her husband tried to kill her. After devouring his soul and seeing the memory fragments—

She understood the reason.

In the end, it was Wu Heng's words and her own realization that led to the prompt unlocking.

The 'Unfinished Business' entry vanished from her panel.

Which meant Xiaoxiao's own unresolved business might not just be about whether her mother had learned any skills or stayed at a certain base.

It could still be tied to concerns about the future.

His guess might not be accurate—but it was highly possible.

"What are you spacing out for?" Glenda glanced up.

Wu Heng smiled. "Just glad you've pulled through."

"What do you mean pulled through? I don't feel any different," Glenda said.

"No change is fine too," Wu Heng replied, then clapped toward Xiaoxiao and Benny, "Girls, it's time for the zombie world."

The two ghosts floated over.

Xiaoxiao leaned on his shoulder. "Uncle, are you going to be my dad?"

Benny drifted over too. "That's a weird thing to call him."

Wu Heng said, "We're heading to the zombie world. Time to kill some zombies today."

Glenda asked, "Not checking in on the expo? It's open to the public today. Should be packed."

"It's all arranged. Patrols and the guild will have people deployed. We wouldn't be much help staying," Wu Heng answered.

"As long as you've handled it," Glenda nodded.

"Let's head back first. It's been days since we visited the zombie world—time to check in."

With that, Wu Heng absorbed the three ghosts into his body.

Then opened a world gate to the side and walked through.

...…

Mountain Cauldron Port, hotel suite.

Wu Heng stepped out of the world gate and looked out the window.

The number of people in the base had grown—and he could even see some of the base's old-timers.

After a quick scan, he picked up the walkie-talkie and called Qi Hancai.

Soon, there was a knock.

Qi Hancai entered the room.

She wore a white shirt with a blue-gray coat, a chubby little owl perched on her shoulder.

Her lower half was in tight blue jeans—practical and sharp-looking.

"What? Don't like the outfit?" Qi Hancai caught his gaze and turned left and right.

"Suits you well. Makes you even prettier," Wu Heng smiled.

Qi Hancai smiled too, stepping closer and leaning in. "Thanks."

Wu Heng pulled her to sit on his lap and asked, "How's it going here?"

Qi Hancai said, "We've transferred more of our people these last two days. The base is running smoothly now."

"All the temporary housing's been torn down. Everyone's got a room, and we've set up canteens and distribution points for supplies. The only thing missing is power supply."

"The radio station is back too. It's broadcasting our presence, so when future rescue teams see skeletons, they'll know it's us."

A few days in—and the progress was pretty quick.

Wu Heng replied, "We'll check out the nearby power plant in a bit. If it's thermal, restoring power shouldn't be too hard."

"Alright!" Qi Hancai agreed.

Cooking still needed firewood, and solar panels had to power certain devices.

Life without electricity was inconvenient.

Wu Heng continued, "How's the warship training?"

Qi Hancai said, "I think they're good now. The skeletons did a navigation test yesterday. They can pilot it and operate the weapon systems—just haven't done live-fire tests."

Wu Heng raised an eyebrow.

If they could pilot and control weapons, that was good enough.

Next step: send the ship to another world.

That'd enhance Gold-Silver Island's naval combat capabilities.

"Keep training the skeletons. Have some of our people learn too," Wu Heng instructed.

"I'll arrange it," Qi Hancai nodded. "Want me to take you to the port?"

Wu Heng thought for a moment. "No need. Do you know where the port's power plant is?"

"I've got the address."

"Good. Let's go clear out the zombies first."

"Got it!" Qi Hancai picked up the walkie-talkie to issue orders.

While she was speaking, she felt a firm hand.

She glanced back and arched slightly—making it easier for the man behind her to touch.

...…

Gold-Silver Island, Expo Venue.

The expo was absolutely packed—shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, a sea of people as far as the eye could see.

Patrols and guild members shouted to maintain order.

They split the flow into batches to prevent trampling or chaos.

In this world, new events were rare.

A public expo—especially one originally meant for merchants and nobles—naturally drew everyone's attention.

Inside the exhibition hall, people walked through the corridors marveling at the goods on display.

The items nobles used were truly exquisite.

But also kind of silly.

Wine glasses engraved with such intricate patterns—if dropped, wouldn't the designs shatter?

Moving along to the central booth—

The area was completely packed.

People stood on tiptoe, craning their necks just to glimpse the screen showing someone writing with a fountain pen.

Gasp~!

"So this is a fountain pen!"

"How did they come up with storing ink in the pen barrel? That's genius."

"The Island Lord seems even cooler than the hero in the story."

"It's just a matter of time. He's still so young."

Everyone murmured in awe at the fountain pen's novelty.

Soon, patrols pushed through to move the crowd along—no lingering in one spot.

Second floor exhibition hall.

Unlike the first floor fountain pen area, the watch zone was quieter.

Tinkerers of all races—elves, humans, gnomes—gathered outside the display.

Each held pen and paper, sketching the watch's design and copying the screen's details.

From time to time, sighs of admiration were heard.

"A magnificent invention."

"He should've become a tinkerer instead."

"Yeah, a born tinkerer—wasted on becoming a mage."

Third floor exhibition hall.

The actual enhancement potions had been removed. Only certificates from the guild and consortium remained behind the glass.

Visitors walked by, just glancing quickly—no crowding like the lower floors.

Outside the counter, two short figures in black cloaks stood.

They stood stiffly in front of the glass, staring at the certificates.

"Miss, the alchemist you're looking for..." the maid behind whispered.

A firm voice came from the figure in front, "I should have known it was him."

Thanks to 08a for the reward.
