Chapter 636, Please Join Us
It was her!
The little rich lady who exchanged rare items with him.
Last time Wu Heng visited, the tavern had already been shut down. Otherwise, he would've liked to keep trading with her.
Unfortunately, there had been no way to contact her then.
But he hadn't expected her to find this place directly.
Wu Heng had inquired through the guild and guessed she might be a princess of the Ekow Kingdom.
But it had been a while—he couldn't remember her name clearly, and didn't know if it matched what she just said.
Wu Heng didn't hide it and said with a smile, "Hello. This time we're meeting with our true faces."
Brittany spoke solemnly, "Island Lord, I am the Fifth Princess of the Ekow Kingdom. I came here to ask for your help."
So she really was a princess.
Wu Heng didn't show much emotion and asked, "What do you need?"
"Island Lord, please help me take back the Ekow Kingdom. Join my team," Brittany said seriously, with a heroic gleam in her eyes.
Wu Heng's brow furrowed instantly.
He stared at her for a while before asking, "You... why would you think I'd help you?"
"I need a core team. With your abilities, you could become my most reliable power. If I regain the Ekow Kingdom, I'll give you everything you want," Brittany said a little emotionally, then added, "You lived in the Ekow Kingdom too. I'm sure you don't want to see it in this state."
Wu Heng looked at her, feeling like she'd read too many heroic stories.
Besides, he had no fondness for the Ekow Kingdom. In fact, going to Rentam City was his way of escaping it.
"Who are the enemies?"
"My eldest and second brothers!"
"They're working together?" Wu Heng asked.
"No, they're fighting for the throne. The turmoil in the kingdom is because officials and generals support different sides," Brittany replied.
"So you joining in won't just make it more chaotic?"
Brittany's expression turned passionate. "No! They don't deserve the throne or the people's respect. They colluded with outsiders and caused the deaths of our father and many ministers. I will take everything back."
From her words, Wu Heng got a general idea of the situation in the Ekow Kingdom.
Right now, the main contenders for the throne were the First and Second Princes, each backed by different factions.
It was all about who would seize the final seat.
And Brittany, the Fifth Princess, clearly disapproved of both and wanted to form her own faction.
Wu Heng had sold her potions before, which made her think he was a high-level alchemist.
She hoped to gain his support—potions, funds, a famous alchemist—all valuable assets.
And now, realizing he was the one behind the exhibition, she was even more eager to recruit him.
"How many people do you have now?"
Brittany froze. "Counting you, three. But I'll keep looking for trustworthy allies."
Seriously? Three people to claim a throne?
That sounded like drunken tavern talk from a fisherman.
Wu Heng hesitated, then gently reminded her, "Princess Brittany, thank you for your trust, but I hope you know—I'm an Island Lord appointed by the Guild, and the Flagbearer of the Emerald Sea."
Brittany nodded.
Wu Heng continued, "The Guild may not interfere in or alter local governments or regimes under any circumstances."
Brittany said, "I know. But I have a reason—they're backed by cultists. What you said applies to normal conditions. If cults are involved, special actions can be taken for safety."
"Evidence? Let me see it," Wu Heng said, looking at her.
Brittany looked anxious. "I don't have it yet, but it won't be hard to find."
"Princess, the Guild doesn't operate on assumptions," Wu Heng said. Then he added, "I'll report this to headquarters. We'll have the local branch investigate."
Brittany thought for a moment. With so few people, she couldn't do much anyway. Letting the Guild investigate was reasonable.
"Thank you—but don't mention I'm here. Many are searching for me."
"Alright," Wu Heng agreed.
"If the Guild confirms there's cult involvement, will you join my team?" Brittany looked at him again.
Wu Heng shook his head. "No. But as long as you're on Gold-Silver Island, I'll guarantee your safety."
Brittany looked disappointed. After hesitating a few times—
She finally said, "I'll persuade you."
Wu Heng didn't say more.
Brittany pulled her hood back on and turned to leave.
After she left, Wu Heng also covered his face and exited City Hall.
...
Outside City Hall.
The central district remained bustling.
The line to buy fountain pens stretched far.
Some bystanders watched. Others sold fruit to those waiting.
Since wealthy merchants came to the island, locals had made decent money.
At least the taverns and inns were packed.
Wu Heng glanced around. Seeing everything was orderly, he headed to the Guild.
With Sheila Grey not present, Wu Heng went to the front desk.
He bought two Technomancer class scrolls and asked them to order more.
Then he took a carriage to Lighthouse Street.
There, he bought a gray-feathered baby owl from a beast shop, then returned to the carriage.
Back to the Island Lord's Mansion.
...
"Master, did the pens sell well?" Minnie helped him take off his coat.
Robe took the cage from the skeleton attendant and set it aside.
Annette brought iced tea.
"There was quite a line. If you're bored at home, go out and walk around," Wu Heng said, sipping tea on the sofa.
"Too many people outside. Don't feel like going out," said Minnie.
The other two nodded in agreement.
"Up to you," Wu Heng said, setting the cup down. "Minnie, what level are you all now?"
"I think I hit level 8. Haven't tested in a while," Minnie replied.
"Go upstairs and bring down the level crystal. Let's test it," Wu Heng said.
"Okay!" Minnie said. "Robe, go get the level crystal from Sister Viel's room."
Robe ran upstairs and came back with a sparkling crystal, handing it to Wu Heng. "Here you go, Master."
"Who wants to go first?" Wu Heng placed it on the table.
"Me!" Minnie focused and activated the crystal.
The crystal lit up tier by tier—
Finally stopping at level 9.
"I'm level 9! Yay!" Minnie cheered.
Next was Robe, who took a deep breath and gripped the crystal.
Her level stopped at 6.
Last was Annette, who nervously picked it up—and reached level 3.
"Sorry, Master. I'm the lowest level."
Wu Heng patted her head. "You switched classes the latest. It's normal."
"I'll work harder."
"Even if you don't, I'll take care of you forever."
Annette blushed deeper, scooted a little closer, and shyly said, "Thank you, Master."
Near dusk, Andviel returned.
With a wave of her space ring, twenty wooden boxes filled with silver coins appeared in the courtyard.
"Master, we sold 7,300 fountain pens today. Here are 182,500 silver coins."
