Chapter 728: Corpse Core Research Report
The Kingdom of Ekow, an informant investigating the cults.
Needless to say, it was the former captain of the Flying Fish Pirate Crew sent over, apparently named 'Babqi'.
Wu Heng didn't have a good impression of him, especially when he was asked to investigate the Cult of Destiny.
Beni was directly killed while trying to deliver intelligence, while he thrived in the cult, eating well and becoming a core member.
If Wu Heng hadn't gone over to destroy the Cult of Destiny, this guy might have already become a Church Guardian or held some even higher position.
It gave the impression that this guy wasn't serving as a spy but rather enjoying his life.
Wu Heng hadn't even been paying attention to that area this time, yet he still received information from him.
After Wen Mansa finished speaking, Wu Heng continued to ask, "Any other intelligence?"
"There are two detailed pieces of intel. One, the number of sects is not small. They are stationed in the city with multiple level 18 Professionals. Second, regarding the Cult of Destiny, they're still waiting for the bishop to arrive. If the bishop doesn't show up within half a month, the small sects will be broken up and merged into the larger ones," Wen Mansa finished the rest of the intel.
"Stationed in the city, meaning they've received local approval." Wu Heng noted the use of the word 'stationed'.
So many people in the city, and they're all high-level Professionals—there's no way the locals didn't notice anything.
Either they're turning a blind eye, or both parties already made an agreement.
As for the mention of multiple level 18 Professionals, that wasn't surprising.
Forming a sect always has a purpose. Most aim to gather faith to lay the groundwork to become Heroes.
Only level 18 and above are qualified to form sects.
The second point was about the Cult of Destiny. According to Babqi's intel, they're still unaware that the bishop was killed.
It's been so long—haven't they gone back to look for clues?
Like why the bishop didn't show up?
"That's probably it," Wen Mansa said.
"There's no issue with Slater's side, right?" Wu Heng continued to ask.
Wen Mansa said, "Don't worry, Master. Steward Slater's side is doing well. Now that our army has entered and is stationed in the city, there shouldn't be any major danger."
"What about the attacking skeleton army?"
"All battles are going smoothly." Wen Mansa's tone carried a bit of pride as she continued, "Along the way, we've occupied several mines and key industries. No wonder some Kingdoms always look to expand their territory—they can just claim all the resources along the way."
"Mark all the positions clearly. I'll assign skeletons to extract them."
"Got it. Also, I'm running low on the ammunition you left me," Wen Mansa softly reminded.
The skeleton army advanced like a steamroller—not just because of their undead traits, but also due to the power of firearms.
Once firearms are gone and all they have are conventional melee weapons, their strength will be greatly diminished.
Wu Heng said, "Use what you have for now. I'll deliver more later."
The ammunition production chain is mass-producing, and not much is actually used on Gold-Silver Island.
Using it in Rentam City has some effect; at least it's not just gathering dust in a warehouse.
"Mm-hmm, if you have time, come visit. Your daughter misses her dad," Wen Mansa said softly.
"How old is our daughter even?"
"Fine, I miss Daddy too," Wen Mansa said in a sweet voice.
Wu Heng laughed and said, "If our daughter hears that, you won't be embarrassed?"
"She's sleeping in the next room," Wen Mansa countered. "Do you like it, Master?"
"I do. When I have time, I'll come visit you both."
"Okay, Master!"
After they finished speaking, they hung up the phone.
Wu Heng leaned on the edge of the table, starting to ponder the matter.
The sects are stationed inside the Kingdom of Ekow—it doesn't seem to affect him directly.
But their purpose...
Could it be to assassinate the Guild's investigation team?
"The timing doesn't match."
If these sects gathered to kill the investigation team from headquarters, the timing doesn't add up.
Babqi sent the intel to Blackstone Town earlier than the arrival of the investigation team.
So their original plan wasn't targeting the headquarters team—it was likely related to internal matters within the Kingdom.
Most likely tied to the Crown Prince.
But still, it doesn't make complete sense. Even if the Crown Prince wants to fight for the throne, would he really risk involving cults?
Also, so many level 18 Professionals—who are they preparing to fight?
But with these people gathering inside the Kingdom, and the investigation team heading over, danger is very likely.
"I should still report this to headquarters and the investigation team."
Keeping it hidden does no good for him.
Helping the investigation team reduce losses is still necessary.
Knock knock knock~!
The sound of knocking, followed by the cat maid Robe's voice, "Master, breakfast is ready. If you don't eat soon, it'll get cold."
"Coming." Wu Heng opened the door and headed downstairs to the dining room.
He had a quick bite.
The skeletons took the trays away.
Wu Heng put on his coat and hood, dressing up fully.
"Minnie, I'm heading out."
"Yes, Master."
...…
Leaving the Lord's Mansion, Wu Heng took a carriage to the Guild.
Along the way: noisy streets, shouting vendors, and long lines in front of shops.
The entire Gold-Silver Island no longer resembled a pirate haven.
If you didn't know what had happened here before, you'd never guess it was pirate-related.
Now, it's just a brand new island—the commercial hub of the Emerald Sea.
Arriving at the Guild entrance, Wu Heng got off and walked in.
The main hall was still bustling—people gathered in groups discussing the latest hot topics.
He passed through the corridor and arrived at the steward's study. After knocking, he walked in directly.
The room was filled with a faint floral scent.
The two sisters were at their desks handling documents.
Seeing Wu Heng walk in, their eyes lit up.
"Why is the Lord so free today?" Sheila Grey said with a smile.
"Of course I'm here on official business," Wu Heng said.
Sheila Grey asked, "What's the matter?"
"Remember 'Babqi'? The one we released to gather intel on the Cult of Destiny," Wu Heng said.
Sheila Grey thought for a bit and nodded, "I remember. He got intel?"
Wu Heng met Babqi once when he went to Blackstone Town to eliminate the Cult of Destiny.
Sheila Grey saw him back when the Pirate King attacked Gold-Silver Island—it's been a while since then.
Seems like she remembered clearly and hadn't forgotten.
"He's now become a core member within the sect."
Sheila Grey frowned, "He really is good at this."
"Yeah," Wu Heng nodded and continued, "He sent intel saying that many sects are stationed in a city called Erjilo, waiting for the others to arrive to discuss plans targeting the Kingdom of Ekow."
"What kind of plans?" Sheila Grey frowned and asked.
Wu Heng shook his head, "Didn't say. I figure it's either about the throne or dividing the cult followers."
Sheila Grey frowned in thought.
Shiyali then brought over a cup of herbal tea and handed it to him.
"What's your thought?" Sheila Grey asked again.
"My idea is to write two letters: one to headquarters mentioning this issue, and the second to the investigation team heading to the Kingdom of Ekow, just to make them aware and cautious," Wu Heng said directly.
Sheila Grey nodded, "Tell me everything from the start of the intel. I'll need the full picture to write the report."
"Alright." Wu Heng recounted everything, including why Babqi sent the message to Blackstone Town.
And how it then got passed to him.
After he finished, Sheila Grey thought for a moment, then started writing the report.
Once she finished, she handed it to Shiyali, "Take this to the front desk and send it out according to the address."
Shiyali picked up the letter and left the room.
Sheila Grey continued, "Do you think this poses a danger?"
"Not sure, but it likely ties to the throne."
"Makes sense," Sheila Grey nodded, then added, "Good thing headquarters didn't assign you to go. So many level 18s—we wouldn't be able to handle them."
"Yeah, lucky I didn't go."
As they talked, Shiyali returned from outside.
"It's sent. It'll go out this afternoon."
Seeing everything was settled, Wu Heng stood and said, "I'll head back now. If anything comes up, I'll come find you."
"Okay," both nodded.
Shiyali smiled and said, "Come to the house for a meal when you have time."
"Sure!" Wu Heng agreed and walked out.
Leaving the Guild, he headed to inspect the foundational factory currently in production.
...…
By the time he returned to the Lord's Mansion, it was already dusk.
After dinner—
Wu Heng returned to his study, holding the printed materials in his hand.
The documents contained the survivor information trapped by the ghosts, secretly recorded by Glenda and the others.
The phone-captured images were very clear. After a bit of adjustment, they could be printed directly.
Glenda only saw part of it.
The report was divided into two categories.
[Report on Animal Growth Corpse Core Types and Timing], and [Experimental Directions for Controllable Human Abilities].
