Chapter 758: Inquiring About You

"Thanks for the hard work, Uncle! Hehe!"

"Let's go, head back first. Xiaoxiao, it's been a while since you saw your mom, right?" Wu Heng opened the door and sat in the passenger seat.

Big Head Skeleton and two skeletal attendants also got in the back seat.

Xiaoxiao flew through the door and said, "Yeah, I've missed her a bit."

"We'll be back soon." Wu Heng added, "Check if the Corpse King is loaded in."

Xiaoxiao flew to the back of the truck, looked into the cargo bed, and came back. "All loaded."

"Drive, back to the port base."

The skeleton driver started the truck, and surrounded by the skeletal army, they returned to base.

......

The return trip wasn't far.

By the time they reached the base gate, it was nearly dusk.

The truck stopped, and Qi Hancai came with several base staff to greet them.

"Leader." Qi Hancai saluted first.

The others followed suit.

Wu Heng nodded. "No need for formalities. Everyone get back to your tasks. Qi Hancai, come with me."

The crowd dispersed, Qi Hancai stayed.

Wu Heng led her to the back of the truck and lifted the tarp—an overwhelming stench hit them.

In the darkness, a tightly bound giant beast was held in place by skeletons.

It looked like a savage beast lurking in the shadows, glaring viciously.

Thud, thud, thud\~!

Qi Hancai's face changed drastically, stepping back in shock.

The Corpse King…

Wu Heng said, "You've seen it before."

Qi Hancai quickly hid behind him, whispering, "Why'd you bring the Corpse King to base? Kill it outside!"

"That's why I wanted to talk to you. I need a place not too far from the base to keep the Corpse King and monitor it."

Observe the Corpse King?

Qi Hancai frowned, recalling the HQ's zombie research topics.

But that was on ordinary Zombies.

No one brought a Corpse King back for study.

She took a deep breath and didn't ask further.

Wu Heng always acted with clear purpose. Just find a safe place where it wouldn't escape.

Let him research however he wants.

She quickly thought of a place. "There's a basement outside the base—pretty solid. Should work."

Outside the base.

Wu Heng thought it didn't need to be so complicated.

Just pick a room, assign skeletons to guard and feed it corpse cores daily for evolution.

But for Qi Hancai and her team, it was a mental burden.

And if the Corpse King reached level 20, it might develop unknown powers.

Keeping it outside was safer.

"Far?"

"Not really. Just a building behind the base. Found it during a sweep," said Qi Hancai.

"Let's go check it out."

"Let's drive."

Qi Hancai took the wheel and drove Wu Heng from the base.

They didn't go far and soon stopped before a building—it looked like a hotel.

They walked to the lower level and found the mentioned basement.

Around 30 square meters, metal door, concrete walls with tile lining.

Looked like a privately prepped vault.

"Is this okay? It was open when we found it," Qi Hancai said.

Wu Heng walked in to check. There was a vent overhead—not sealed air-tight.

The walls were indeed sturdy. Much better than a random room.

"Looks good." Wu Heng nodded, then told the skeletons, "Bring the Corpse King in."

The skeletons dragged the bound Corpse King into the room.

"Feed it six corpse cores daily. And guard it well," Wu Heng instructed, then left.

Clatter\~!

A wave of skeletons entered and formed a circle, their hollow eyes staring down the Corpse King.

Once the guards were inside, Wu Heng locked the door again.

"Let's go back," said Wu Heng.

Qi Hancai clung to his arm. "Is this the one Korean Radio mentioned?"

"Yeah. They had two—one died, brought the other back for study," Wu Heng smiled.

"Those bastards never mentioned there were two," Qi Hancai grumbled.

......

Back at base.

Wu Heng sat in the meeting room, listening to progress reports from various departments.

Construction, facility repair, and skeleton training by research institute experts.

By now, the number of skeletons in specialized roles had grown. Once the cities conquered from Rentam City stabilized, some could be dispatched.

After everyone finished, they saluted and left the room.

Only Wu Heng and Qi Hancai remained.

Qi Hancai said, "Yanhong said HQ finally settled the owed rewards. Everything's normal at the munitions factory, and 500 dual-barrel cannons have been produced."

The owed rewards were from helping them kill ghosts—a negotiated deal.

Five armored vehicles, seven Tier-3 corpse cores.

Looks like everything was delivered.

Qi Hancai asked curiously, "What rewards? I didn't know."

"Last time HQ's team got trapped by ghosts. They asked for my help and promised a reward," Wu Heng explained.

"Oh, that makes sense."

Wu Heng added, "Tell Li Yanhong to ask Lü Changan—that HQ commander who liaises with us—if he has any books on talismans. Say I'd like to take a look."

"Okay, I'll talk to Li Yanhong later," Qi Hancai noted it down.

Then she remembered something. "By the way, during the last food trade with Korean HQ, someone from their side tried to gather intel about you."

"Who'd they ask?"

"Some of our Korean personnel here. But no one's stupid—they've got food and shelter here, so they told me right away," said Qi Hancai.

Since food had to be traded from here, their HQ probably wasn't doing well.

Autumn was near. Without adequate supplies, many bases might starve again.

Wu Heng asked, "What kind of intel?"

"Your appearance, behavior, whereabouts—they even wanted a photo," Qi Hancai said.

Wu Heng's frown deepened.

Interest in him wasn't surprising.

To outsiders, his abilities were ridiculously powerful.

The current size of the skeleton army could crush any base—and it kept growing.

Asking casually made sense. But asking for his location and a photo?

Clearly more than curiosity.

"Any idea why?"

Qi Hancai shook her head. "No clue yet."

That Korean rescue team was getting suspicious.

First they claimed this land was theirs and wanted the skeletons gone. Then they tried to cooperate, gave info on the Corpse King, and now they're after his intel.

What the hell were they planning?

Thinking quickly, Wu Heng said, "Find a reason to meet them again. I'll go with you."

Qi Hancai looked puzzled. "You're going to show up? I think something's fishy."

"I've got nothing to say to them. Just want to see what they're really up to," said Wu Heng.

"Alright. I'll contact them after we get back and try to set a meeting within a couple days," Qi Hancai agreed. Then she hesitated. "Staying the night?"

"Yeah. I'll come to your room."

Qi Hancai smiled. "Okay."

They went to the canteen for dinner and returned to her dorm room together.

Wu Heng sat on the bed flipping through his scroll book while Qi Hancai came out of the bathroom.

"You read. I won't disturb you," Qi Hancai said with a smile.

She spread her bathrobe on the floor, knelt by the bed, and kissed his lower abdomen.

Wu Heng patted her head, continuing to read.

......

The next day, Gold-Silver Island.

Another new skeleton patrol unit had been added.

The port area grew even busier—many wealthy merchants and nobles arrived with families.

They stared wide-eyed at the clean streets, rows of streetlamps, and colorful ads hanging from the lights.

"So this is Gold-Silver Island!"

"Those poles are streetlights. They glow at night—the whole city never sleeps."

"For real?"

"Of course it's real."

The men bragged softly to the women around them.

......

Central district.

Andviel entered the church with a skeleton guard squad.

Clergy members were cleaning, and when they saw undead soldiers pouring in, their eyelids twitched.

Skeletons swaggering into a holy church—probably unheard of in any era.

Then, the local church's director emerged.

He looked at the fox-girl at the front, then at the skeletons behind her.

His brows furrowed slightly.
