Chapter 638.5: Dragon-Slaying Tactics
Kalecgos clearly saw his expression. The blue dragon, brimming with evil nature, couldn't help but think:
"Just because you speak such fluent Draconic, I'll spare your pathetic life."
"But only if you surrender your body to death and accompany me as a broken soul!"
Classic Kalecgos. Classic evil-for-evil's-sake blue dragon thinking.
Eyes shut tight, Chris pulled out a shimmering spell scroll under Kalecgos's excited gaze and tore it open without hesitation.
A sudden surge of panic rose in Kalecgos's heart as he sensed the obscure, twisted aura from the scroll. On instinct, he thrust his claw forward, trying to tear Chris and the scroll apart.
Too late!
Locking eyes with Chris's slightly crazed stare, Kalecgos found that no matter how hard he tried, his claw couldn't move forward—not even a bit!
His entire body was paralyzed!
"Chronomancy!"
Kalecgos, widely knowledgeable, immediately recognized the source of the power.
And precisely because of that, his fear grew stronger.
Ordinary chronomancy wouldn't affect a legendary true dragon like him much—he'd usually shrug it off.
But this power was different!
It completely immobilized his body—and was cast by a weak adventurer!
The caster wasn't a normal legendary spellcaster!
Most likely a grand elven archmage from the Cole Elf Kingdom, an expert in time magic!
Chris, who had burned all his battle aura and a portion of his life force to cast the scroll far beyond his tier—
Felt his whole body weak and floaty, his gaze unfocused, yet his expression was resolute. Facing the nearby threat, he gritted his teeth and said:
"When it comes to baiting prey, no one's more professional than me!"
Prey?
"You puny bug... dared to call me prey?!"
Rage surged wildly in Kalecgos's heart.
He desperately summoned all his strength to resist the obscure time force.
He swore silently to himself—
Not only would he keep this little bug Chris by his side forever, he'd find new ways to torture him daily!
Just as Kalecgos felt the time magic around him beginning to weaken and his body nearly free to move again—
A massive, twisted shadow suddenly loomed above his head!
An overwhelming pressure, chilling and deep, descended violently.
Chris, with a weak smile, waved cheekily at Kalecgos just before he regained movement and said:
"See you later!"
Regaining control of his body, Kalecgos swung a claw at Chris with all his might—
But a terrifying force slammed into his back, smashing him into the sand.
BOOM!
The impact shook the ground, flinging sand into the sky.
Kalecgos's head was slammed into the sand. His back went numb, and he vaguely heard bones cracking. Fear surged through him.
"Dragon's might!!"
"I was attacked... by another dragon!"
"Stronger than me, heavier than me, and bigger than me!"
Thoughts flashed through Kalecgos's mind as he felt the crushing weight on his back.
He vaguely realized the true dragon that hit him had now bared its fatal fangs!
Even though Kalecgos prided himself on his spiked, heavily-armored back, he dared not go fang-to-fang with the attacker.
Panicking, Kalecgos activated his innate powers, calling on the earth elementals to push the sand aside fast.
If he could turn the solid ground beneath him into loose sand, he could burrow away, dodge the pressure, and find a new attack angle.
After all, even power-obsessed true dragons became cunning with age—hard to kill.
But alas, Kalecgos only accounted for Yaya's threat, forgetting Matthew standing behind her!
"Counterspell!"
"Mind Burst!"
"Mind Lash!"
"Mind Spike!"
After firing off four spells, Matthew realized he couldn't instant-cast a fifth. He aborted the spell and reached toward the sky.
Thunder crashed from the center of the storm clouds!
CRACK!
The lightning struck so fast, it hit before the spells landed!
BOOM!
Kalecgos, caught unaware, had his head turned to charcoal. Over a dozen deep blue scales split, leaking scorched black blood.
Worse, mind-shattering pain stabbed into his brain.
Like red-hot iron rods stirring inside his skull, driving him into mental chaos.
Yet Kalecgos's survival instinct remained strong. Even in this state, he remembered the danger behind him and raised his claw to protect his neck.
CRACK!
Searing pain and the sound of bone cracking shot through his dazed mind.
Kalecgos woke from the agony, howling as he twisted his body, trying to escape Yaya's crushing claw.
But Yaya, who had just shattered his claw, didn't let up—her hind legs pinned his back.
Her front claws reached forward, aiming to rip open his chest.
If that claw struck true, she'd gut this blue dragon on the spot!
Feeling death draw near, Kalecgos's heart skipped. He kicked hard, trying to break free.
But Yaya wasn't just strong—she was skilled.
Her claw was pinning the joint of his hind leg, minimizing his force and locking him down.
Kalecgos wasted precious seconds—enough for Yaya's claw to tear into his chest.
The sharp talon easily ripped through his scales and tore into muscle.
Sensing death, Kalecgos let out a furious roar, crackling with azure lightning!
Bloodline Ability—Power Surge!
His muscular body swelled, and with this burst of power, he broke free from Yaya's grip.
Twisting his body, he narrowly avoided her heart-piercing claw.
But her swipe still carved a deep gash into his side.
The sharp pain made him curl up, trying to roll away.
But Yaya had a backup plan.
Her powerful claw gripped his neck, and her open jaws lunged at his back.
Kalecgos panicked. He couldn't shake off her hold and knew exactly what she was aiming for—
His wings!
Despite the pain, Kalecgos twisted his body, trying to bury his back in the sand.
But her claw kept a death grip on his neck, and Kalecgos began to feel dizzy.
"What kind of fighting style is this?"
"Who the hell is this dragon?!"
CRUNCH!
Yaya bit down on Kalecgos's wing. Her fangs tore through even the tough scales, ripping a massive gash.
Desperately, Kalecgos turned his head. Fury blazing, he unleashed a cone of lightning at the silver dragon.
CRACK!
But Yaya had anticipated it. Her heavy body floated up gracefully—
Just in time to dodge the deadly counterattack!
Feeling the crushing weight lift, Kalecgos didn't check his wounds. He turned and frantically dug into the sand.
His wings were injured—he couldn't fly anytime soon.
Yaya's agile dodges, brutal power, and bizarre close-quarters fighting style made him give up on battle.
The old blue dragon, an expert at running, knew:
Only the living get to stay kings.
Dead dragons just become someone's trophy.
Kalecgos dug fast. In seconds, most of his 20-meter body vanished into the sand.
Yaya saw this and dove from the sky, trying to stop his escape.
But Kalecgos, fighting for his life, took another hit from her charge.
The pain made him wonder if she'd broken all the bones in his back.
Yaya clawed at his wings, flapping wildly to pull him out of the pit.
But Kalecgos, desperate to live, ignored her attacks, using all his bloodline power to burrow deeper.
Watching this, Matthew smacked his lips.
"Figures… Even with perfect execution, killing a legendary adult blue dragon in the Death Desert is just too much."
Still, his actions showed no hesitation.
Standing on Kalecgos's back, he slashed both wings with his new Ghostblade greatsword.
CRACK!
The blade burst with energy, slicing through wing joints and muscle.
With a mighty tug from Yaya and Kalecgos's pained screams, the wings tore clean off.
Blood sprayed across the dry sand, forming solid clumps.
Terrified, Kalecgos—no longer held back by Yaya—ignored the pain and dove deeper into the sand.
Watching him disappear, Yaya sighed in frustration.
"Aren't blue dragons supposed to be battle-hungry? Die-before-retreat types?"
"Why'd this guy ditch his wings and run like hell?"
Disappointed but not defeated, Yaya packed up the fresh, bleeding wings and flew high.
The adventurers, who witnessed the brief but fierce clash, knew she wasn't leaving—she was guarding them from above.
Their excitement and awe erupted in cheers.
Having seen Kalecgos's might and Yaya's utter domination, they now had a story to brag about for life—and remembered the fight wasn't over!
Relaxed now, they chattered excitedly, exaggerating their roles in the battle.
Those who missed the action sighed and focused on fighting the incoming mutated draconic kin.
As for the boasting? They didn't hear a word of it!
Yaya flew several laps around the battlefield, unwilling to give up.
But Kalecgos never reemerged.
She kept muttering insults like "coward," "disgrace to blue dragons," and "greedy old geezer."
Clearly, she was deeply bitter about the fat prize slipping away!
Matthew, on the other hand, wasn't so hung up on it—he'd gotten what he wanted.
He could've helped Yaya finish Kalecgos, had he gone all-in.
But he held back to study Kalecgos's unique Extraordinary Feat—Multi-Lung!
Kalecgos's lungs were so strong, even sturdier than Yaya's despite her larger size.
Plus, his lungs had special additional structures.
That's how he resisted Yaya's combined grappling and takedown techniques—
By relying on internal oxygen and blood circulation, he held on and escaped.
Matthew also observed something else about those lungs—
They helped Kalecgos survive even in the suffocating airless depths underground.
Others might think this was just a blue dragon trait.
But to Matthew, such "innate abilities" were a source of immense insight.
Observing Kalecgos's other organs, he noticed something crucial—
His ultra-strong lungs didn't burden the rest of his body, unlike a failed Cole Elf experiment.
This was due to Kalecgos's powerful physique and bizarrely tough vascular system.
From this, Matthew formed a critical hypothesis:
"When one organ becomes too strong, it can overload and damage others."
"So maybe we need regulators? Transformers to balance the pressure—achieve a new equilibrium."
"Hah, true dragons really are walking wonders—always full of surprises!"
As for dragon-slaying, Matthew now had over ten tactics ready!
Bay Territory just needed a fat dragon to show up!
After all, the underground lab was still pretty empty…
