It didn't take long for the source of those heavy metallic footsteps to reveal itself.
Three Mauler Juggernauts walked at the front, their massive armored legs shaking the broken concrete with every step. Their hulls gleamed under the flickering neon glow of a half-collapsed advertising board that still sputtered and buzzed overhead.
Behind them came rows of Tyrant battle units, their sensor eyes sweeping the smoke in cold, silent arcs, and behind the Tyrants marched what looked like nearly eight thousand Aegis units. Every single machine was spotless; their white armor plates were pristine and their joints smooth and unscarred.
Not one of them showed a dent, a scorch mark, or any sign of combat. They moved in perfect, eerie silence like a river of polished metal flowing through a landscape of ruin.
