However, in the middle of her sobs, Ayaka noticed a faint ray of light slipping through the gap beneath her father's room.
Well, not her father anymore. More like her stepfather.
Even so, it didn't matter to her. He was still the one who had always treated her kindly, even if his way of showing affection had been strange in hindsight. But Ayaka was still too young to realize that.
The light, however, immediately caught her curiosity.
Maybe there was something inside that room which could explain why her mother had suddenly changed, why her stepfather had died, and perhaps even why her biological father had abandoned her.
Because their life changed drastically when her mother started to obsessively stay in that room.
She quietly stood up and carefully walked down the hallway, making sure each step was light enough that the old wooden floor wouldn't creak beneath her feet.
When she finally reached the door, she slowly peeked through the small opening.
