Chapter 4 - DARKNESS OF THE LIGHT

---

**This is the backstory of the sin that Kazuya's sister committed…**

After killing the murderers to avenge the death of his loved ones, Wino disappeared from the world.

The rage that once burned inside him had quieted… but it never truly vanished.

He chose to live a hidden life, بعيد from society—away from people, away from judgment, away from everything that had once taken everything from him. His days became silent, empty, and meaningless.

He wasn't living.

He was just… existing.

---

Until one night.

The streets were dark, illuminated only by weak streetlights. The wind was cold, carrying a strange emptiness with it.

That's when Wino saw her.

A little girl… standing alone in the middle of the street.

She looked lost.

Her eyes wandered aimlessly, as if she didn't know where she was… or where she belonged. There was fear in her expression—but more than that, there was something familiar.

Darkness.

The same darkness Wino had once carried within himself.

He looked at her for a moment… then turned away.

"…This isn't my problem," he said quietly.

He had no right to interfere in someone else's life.

No right to be part of someone's happiness.

But as he took a step forward—

He stopped.

Her trembling figure… her empty eyes…

They reminded him of himself.

And without realizing it… he turned back.

---

He approached her slowly.

"Where are your parents?" he asked.

No response.

"Do you know where you live?"

Silence.

She just looked at him… as if she didn't understand the question.

Or maybe…

She had nowhere to go.

---

That night, Wino made a decision he never thought he would make again.

He took her in.

---

Her name was **Miyaki**.

Wino enrolled her in a middle school, gave her a place to stay, and slowly began to take care of her.

At first, she barely spoke.

She would sit quietly, avoid eye contact, and flinch at the smallest sounds.

But Wino didn't force anything.

He simply stayed.

Day by day.

Little by little.

---

And slowly…

She changed.

She began to smile.

She started talking more.

She even laughed.

Something Wino had long forgotten… returned.

Warmth.

For the first time since everything he lost—

Wino felt like he wasn't alone anymore.

He didn't say it out loud.

But to him…

Miyaki had become his little sister.

And for a while—

Their life was peaceful.

Almost… normal.

---

Until that day arrived.

---

Miyaki's school had organized a trip to a nearby shrine.

The students were excited. Laughter filled the air as they explored the place together.

For Miyaki, it was another step toward a normal life.

But peace… never lasts forever.

---

At some point during the trip, Miyaki got into an argument with another girl from her class.

Voices were raised.

Tension grew.

Before anyone could stop it—

The other girl slapped Miyaki.

The sound echoed.

Miyaki lost her balance.

Her foot slipped—

And in an instant…

She fell.

Down the slope.

---

Silence.

For a moment, no one moved.

No one spoke.

They just stared.

---

Some students rushed forward and looked down.

Miyaki wasn't moving.

Her body lay still at the bottom.

---

Panic spread.

But not the kind that brings people together.

The kind that makes them afraid… of consequences.

---

The students looked at each other.

No one wanted to be blamed.

No one wanted their life to be ruined.

And slowly—

A decision was made.

A selfish one.

A cruel one.

---

"It's not our fault…"

"She slipped…"

"She deserved it…"

Voices began to overlap.

Excuses.

Justifications.

Denial.

---

The girl who pushed her stood frozen, shaking.

"I… I didn't mean to…"

But instead of facing the truth—

The others protected her.

They convinced themselves of a lie.

And then…

They did something unforgivable.

---

They erased the evidence.

Not out of hatred.

Not out of rage.

But out of fear.

Fear of being held accountable.

Fear of losing their future.

---

And in that moment—

They lost something far more important.

Their humanity.

---

But there was someone else there.

Someone who saw everything.

---

Wino.

---

He had come quietly, just to check on Miyaki.

Maybe to see her smile from a distance.

Maybe to make sure she was safe.

---

Instead…

He saw everything.

From the argument…

To the fall…

To what came after.

---

His body froze.

He couldn't move.

He couldn't speak.

He couldn't even breathe properly.

---

"No…"

The word barely escaped his lips.

---

Not again.

Not another one.

Not someone… he finally managed to protect.

---

His hands trembled.

His vision blurred.

But his eyes never left the scene.

---

The girl who pushed Miyaki…

The one everyone protected…

The one they chose over the truth…

---

She was—

**Kazuya's sister.**

---

And in that moment—

Something inside Wino broke again.

But this time…

It didn't shatter into pain.

It turned into something far more dangerous.

---

Because this time—

He didn't just lose someone.

He witnessed the truth.

---

That even innocent faces…

Can hide unforgivable sins.
