"No... how could this be?" Eloise muttered in a daze; the words she read kept ringing in her head.
"Her Majesty's person killed her daughter."
Her heart clenched with grief, and tears streamed down her face. She couldn't believe it. She had specifically warned everyone not to leave the estate, so why had Eliana ignored her? Now her life was gone, and there was no chance to take revenge.
The thought of having to entertain her daughter's killer with a respectful smile sent bile up her throat.
Her fingers clenched into fists, trembling as she fought to contain the rage threatening to erupt.
She could only swallow her grief and pretend nothing had happened, or the situation might escalate...after all, she still had other children to care for.
