After a long, heavy silence, Commander Thresh finally spoke.
"Your situation," he said slowly, "is more unique than even I anticipated."
While speaking, Thresh reached into a storage pouch at his waist and pulled out something that looked suspiciously like a flatbread. With casual precision, he tore it into six unequal pieces.
He handed three of the chunks to Orion.
"Think of the Demigod realm like this pie," Thresh explained, tossing the smallest piece into the air and catching it in his mouth.
"Originally, it was just one whole pie. But over eons, after countless predecessors broke their teeth trying to eat it whole, we figured out that some parts are softer than others. We mapped out the easy bites and the tough crust."
"This piece I just ate? That's the First Step. Divine Power. Simple. Tasty."
"The other pieces? The ones with the gristle and the burnt edges? Those are the later stages."
