Chapter 444 - Approach

"Lord Vahn...I have to know. Why did you gift that human such a precious item? What if he uses it to become an obstacle to Nazarick?" Lupusregina questioned, seated across from Vahn in the luxurious carriage that would return them to their hotel.

"You speak as if Nazarick has a right to act without being opposed," Vahn countered, raising his right brow as he asked, "If The Great Tomb's forces never come to the capital, what do you believe the odds of that belt being used against them are?"

"So you don't care if harm comes to us...?" Lupusregina questioned, a hurt frown marring her face.

"I care immensely," Vahn refuted. "But Nazarick should never get used to acting without care or caution. Those who act believing that their victory is assured or warranted leave themselves open to being taken advantage of by cunning or opportunistic enemies. With Gazef's character, he would never antagonize Nazarick. He will use his power to protect this Kingdom, just as you would protect The Great Tomb."

"But you clearly don't approve of how this Kingdom is run. Why would you help someone protect it...?" Lupusregina questioned. She really wanted to understand Vahn's position, but his actions made no sense to her—unless he was preparing them to overcome greater threats.

Shaking his head, Vahn elucidated, "That gift wasn't to help Gazef protect this Kingdom. As I said then, it was an acknowledgement of his character. His conviction to serve and protect this Kingdom is no different from your and others' desire to serve and protect The Great Tomb. Just as Cocytus found value in the Lizardmen's Warrior Spirit, I ascribe value to those who are willing to give their all to a cause greater than themselves."

Seeing that Lupusregina still had a conflicted frown, Vahn exhaled faintly through his nose and contended, "If you doubt my actions, you need only to ask Ainz what he thinks of Gazef. If the latter were willing, I can almost guarantee you that Ainz would choose to recruit him. Because, regardless of where they originate or what species they happen to be, individuals of character like Gazef are valuable."

Leaving Vahn at a slight loss for words, Lupusregina didn't hesitate to hold two fingers up to the right side of her head and say aloud, "Pardon me, Lord Ainz, but there is something I would like to ask you..."

Fortunately for Vahn, Ainz didn't hesitate to confirm his assertion, all but settling the matter. From there, Lupusregina no longer had a single doubt, as, from her perspective and the points of view of all of Nazarick's former NPCs, Ainz simply couldn't be wrong...

Though her birthday wasn't for an additional five months, Chi-Chi insisted on celebrating her birthday in accordance with Termina's calendar. To that end, Vahn was accompanying her on one of her self-assigned missions to undermine the Frieza Force's expansion by attacking their ship production facilities.

"What beautiful fireworks..." Chi-Chi hummed, her eyes narrowed with an almost sadistic mirth as she stuck close to Vahn, her Saiyan-tail flicking behind her as they observed a city-sized orbital shipyard being torn apart by the bombs they had planted inside. They were floating in space, but the barrier of pale golden Ki enveloping her and Vahn's bodies functioned as a medium to allow her to breathe and speak.

"You're becoming more of a Saiyan with each passing day..." Vahn noted, eliciting a sensual moan from Chi-Chi's throat as he gave her immaculate ass a firm squeeze.

Slinking around to the front of Vahn's body, Chi-Chi aggressively locked her legs around him, leaned back to stare at him with narrowed eyes, and purred, "I think next I'll have you fuck me in the heart of the facility as it's destroyed..."

"Sounds like fun..." Vahn hummed, similarly narrowing his eyes as he slid his hands along Chi-Chi's sides before holding her in place and grinding his bulge against her pussy. Other than a sleeveless, blue, gold-trimmed qipao-style top and matching shoes, the only article of clothing she wore was a dark blue Slime Biosuit that hugged her figure and left very little to the imagination. And in response to his abrading, the living fabric naturally retracted, granting him direct access to her ever-ready insides.

Though their arrival didn't produce any sound, Vahn and Chi-Chi felt the arrival of multiple ships exiting FTL as they produced vibrations through the otherwise imperceptible medium of space. They had basically been teleporting from one established shipyard to the next in a straight line, so the Frieza Force had finally caught up to them.

"What a nuisance..." Chi-Chi droned, her usually obsidian-black eyes gaining a hint of luminous, emerald-green as the flame-like aura of golden Ki around her and Vahn became more vigorous. She really didn't like being interrupted just as they were about to have sex, so without any hesitation whatsoever, she extended her right hand and rapidly discharged as many compressed spheres of Ki as there were ships.

Despite possessing enough condensed energy to destroy the peak of a mountain, Chi-Chi's Ki attacks ultimately failed to damage the advancing ships. Instead, they rippled across previously invisible barriers, producing peculiar sounds akin to the cracking of an icy lake's surface as it began to thaw and fragment.

Separating from Vahn's body, causing the fabric that had receded from her crotch to mend, Chi-Chi struck a power-up pose and began emitting a low, reverberating shout that rippled through space. At the same time, the Ki cladding her body expanded in all directions due to the lack of gravity, causing her to resemble a small but growing star.

Since Chi-Chi preferred to fight without assistance, Vahn naturally backed away from her and crossed his arms. He could sense several immense life forces emanating from within the ships, but none were half as powerful as Chi-Chi when she was angry or went all-out. Thus, as she reached a point where her power caused space to bend around her, Vahn stayed back and silently observed as the enraged half-Saiyaness engaged the fleet and its would-be defenders alone...

[November 11th DxD/July 5th DBT]

Following another day of clandestine vigilantism, Vahn was on his way back to his and Lupusregina's hotel room when he spotted a luxurious, predominantly white carriage coming to a stop outside—just as he had arrived. Its doors bore the symbol of the Re-Estize Royal Family, so he was unsurprised to see a young man with short blonde hair and striking blue eyes disembark in full, non-reflective, blue-tinged white platemail. After him came a slender and very beautiful young woman with straight, gold-blonde hair that cascaded to her lower back.

Recognizing the woman, garbed in a pale blue dress adorned with white flowers, as Princess Renner, Vahn raised his brows. It was clear she was there to visit him, and with her were two women with contrasting features. Both had different shades of golden-blonde hair, but one was dressed like a warrior princess, while the other was short, garbed in a tattered crimson cloak, and wearing a strange white mask with cracks and a red gemstone embedded in its forehead.

'Those must be members of the renowned Blue Rose...' Vahn determined, taking note of the vibrant blue rose in the taller woman's hair, affixed to a thin white circlet that resembled a crown of thorns. Similar thorns covered her right upper arm and thigh, overlaying an orange-crimson bodysuit that appeared to cover her entire body below her head. Over that, she wore a dark teal bodice with an ankle-length, gold-trimmed loincloth with a gold-hewn pattern of roses and thorns beneath a double-collared, ivory-white, gold-trimmed breastplate—matching her paired guantlets and greaves as pieces of the same armor set.

Though Blue Rose was one of the Re-Estize Kingdom's few groups of Adamantite-ranked Adventurers, Vahn didn't feel that the warrior-esque woman was particularly powerful. Her mask-wearing companion, on the other hand, had mana and vitality on par with Lupusregina and the other members of the Pleiades.

'So there are people outside of Nazarick with Levels higher than 50...' Vahn noted with relief. There would need to be individuals who were at least Level 90+ to meaningfully oppose Nazarick, but there had to be at least a few with long-lived species like Elves and Dragons present in the world.

With such thoughts in mind, Vahn got ahead of the Princess's group by using short-range spatial transference and his Domain to appear within his and Lupusregina's room. His sudden arrival spooked the red-haired Lycanthrope, prompting her to leap out of their bed, but once she saw it was him, she quickly settled down.

"I wasn't aware you could appear like that..." Lupusregina sighed in relief, patting her chest above her naked, perky, and tantalizingly brown breasts. At the same time, the Greater Doppelganger that served as Vahn's stand-in offered a polite bow off to the side and said, "I shall be going, then..." in a courteous tone.

"Thanks again for your hard work..." Vahn expressed habitually—a slight frown marring his face as the Doppelganger, while borrowing his outward appearance, modeled the male version of a reverse bunny suit.

With the Greater Doppelganger promptly teleporting away, Vahn looked to Lupusregina with a raised brow and asked, "Is this your way of getting me to stop leaving you behind?"

"Oh? Don't tell me you're jealous~?" Lupusregina hummed, approaching and wrapping her arms around Vahn's neck and shoulders as she leaned into him, appending, "I just wanted some eye candy to tide me over until your return..." in a husky, sensual tone.

"Mmn...alright, then. But you should know that, rather than jealous, I am a possessive God..." Vahn responded, hefting Lupusregina by her fleshy and resilient bottom as he warned, "It might sound hypocritical, given the size of my harem, but I do not abide by my women willfully sleeping with other men. Other women are tolerable, but never other men. If you're unable to be satisfied by me alone, you're welcome to search for comfort in as many other beds as you like. Just don't expect to return to mine..."

"You're serious..." Lupusregina noted, swallowing nervously. She and the Greater Doppelganger hadn't done anything, but the thought had crossed her mind. She hadn't thought that Vahn would care, but his words made it clear that she had dodged a bullet.

"It's a matter of principle..." Vahn contended, setting Lupusregina down and exhaling faintly through his nose as he added, "If you have questions, we can discuss this at length later. For now, you should dress yourself. We have guests."

"Guests...?" Lupusregina repeated, tilting her head. As she did, the fluffy ears atop her head perked, her senses extending far beyond the room as the young Knight wearing nearly soundless armor approached the door to their room and prepared to knock.

"What is that dog doing here...?" Lupusregina growled, releasing her hold on Vahn and reaching into the black void that was her personal Item Box to retrieve her clothing.

"He's here on behalf of the Second Princess—who is also here alongside members of Blue Rose," Vahn revealed, making sure Lupusregina wasn't in view as he made his way over to the door to answer it.

Ostensibly not expecting such a quick response, the blonde-haired youth outside startled and took a step back as Vahn opened the door and flatly inquired, "What business do you have here?"

"Oh, uh, pardon my intrusion, Sir..." expressed the youth, closing his eyes and offering a notably tense bow as he explained, "I am here on behalf of my Lady, Princess Renner. She is here herself, waiting downstairs. Please, if it isn't too much trouble, I ask that you meet with her."

"You're a polite one..." Vahn remarked, a faint smile adorning his face as he asked, "What's your name?"

Rising to his full, somewhat short height of 165cm, the blue-eyed youth answered, "My name is Climb, Sir. I am greatly honored that you would ask, but please give me your answer."

"I will meet her," Vahn affirmed with a curt nod, causing Climb to appear visibly relieved. It was one thing to be turned away when it was just him, but he wouldn't have the face to explain to his Princess that she, too, had been turned away. Thus, after bowing low and thanking Vahn with every ounce of sincerity he could muster, he obediently returned to his Lady to give her the good news...
