Chapter 396 - Chapter 397: Departure

Swish, swish, swish—

More kunai flew through the air, aimed at Qing Ming. The shout from the Mist Ninja earlier had indeed attracted a lot of attention.

Seeing Qing Ming attempting to fly away, the other Mist Ninjas immediately threw their kunai and shuriken, aiming straight for him.

Qing Ming, however, was as nimble as a fish in water. With fluid, agile movements, he easily dodged all of their attacks.

Just as he was about to fly out of their reach, a sudden jet of water shot toward him from one of the other Mist ships, aiming at his chest with incredible speed.

Sensing danger, Qing Ming's brow furrowed, and with a quick sidestep, he narrowly avoided the attack.

However, this brief pause allowed even more Mist Ninjas to emerge from the cabins.

Those close by launched direct attacks, either throwing kunai, shooting shuriken, or casting various jutsu and illusions.

The objective was clear: to delay his escape as much as possible.

Meanwhile, the Mist Ninjas further away leapt from their ships, running on the water and heading toward him.

Seeing this, Qing Ming's expression turned cold.

He raised his left hand, quickly formed a series of hand seals, and took a deep breath, unleashing the jutsu—Wind Release: Great Breakthrough!

Instantly, the sky darkened!

A powerful gust erupted from his mouth, like a typhoon sweeping down upon everyone below.

In that moment, it wasn't only the approaching Mist Ninjas who were affected; even the four warships rocked dangerously, nearly on the verge of capsizing.

"Watch out!"

"Hold steady, everyone!"

"Don't leave the ships!"

Chaotic shouts erupted from the four warships, revealing the panic among the Mist Ninjas.

Moments later, the storm subsided.

Taking advantage of the Mist Ninjas' disorientation, Qing Ming fully activated his Wind Release: Wings of the Wind, lifting the Mist Chunin he held in his grasp, and soared into the sky.

Several Mist Jonin attempted one last-ditch attack.

However, it was no use against Qing Ming.

With no options left, they reluctantly gave up.

Qing Ming, however, was in no rush to leave.

He circled the four Mist warships for a while, carefully observing every Mist Ninja on board before leisurely flying away.

Watching Qing Ming's retreating figure, though none of the Mist Ninjas voiced it aloud, each one secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

There was no way around it—Qing Ming was truly tenacious.

If he had stayed to keep pestering them, it would have been a real problem.

Fortunately, he had decided to leave.

Once assured of this, the leading Mist Jonin began organizing the treatment of their wounded.

Although the skirmish had only lasted a few moments, the damage from Qing Ming's Wind Release: Great Breakthrough was considerable.

Aside from the injuries from falling on the swaying ships, many were hurt by their own kunai and shuriken that had been thrown back by the wind.

In a sense, they had brought this upon themselves.

If they hadn't thrown so many kunai and shuriken at once, Qing Ming's Wind Release: Great Breakthrough wouldn't have had such a severe impact.

But all of it was now in the past.

...

On the other side.

After leaving the Mist Ninjas' sight, Qing Ming flew for 20 or 30 kilometers before landing on a rocky reef.

Clang—

Qing Ming drew his longsword, infused it with Wind Release chakra, and with a few swift cuts, cleared a level spot to stand.

Boom—

Qing Ming tossed down the Mist Chunin he had captured.

The impact jolted the Mist Chunin awake.

His eyes were dazed for a moment, but as soon as he saw Qing Ming's figure, he snapped to alertness and warily asked, "What do you want?"

As he spoke, his right hand moved toward his weapon pouch.

But in the next moment, with a flash of Qing Ming's blade, his right hand fell to the ground, blood gushing out in spurts.

"Ah!" The intense pain made the Mist Ninja scream.

However, his voice quickly cut off.

Qing Ming's Sharingan spun slightly, casting the Genjutsu: Sharingan, guiding the Mist Chunin to recall the information he needed.

Time passed by, second by second.

After about half an hour.

Qing Ming deactivated his genjutsu.

The Mist Chunin regained consciousness, his face pale.

It was clear he understood what information he had let slip.

"You—"

The Mist Chunin tried to say something.

But Qing Ming had no interest in wasting words with him. With a swift hand seal, he reached out, grasped the man's throat, and started to drain his chakra.

"G-g-guh…"

A strangled noise escaped the Mist Chunin's lips.

His eyes widened, his left hand gripping Qing Ming's wrist as though to pry it away.

But with his chakra rapidly depleting, his strength faded, and he could do nothing.

A few seconds later, Qing Ming released his grip.

By then, the Mist Chunin had already lost his life.

"Six thousand points of chakra… Not too bad,"

Qing Ming muttered, sensing the added chakra within him. He then formed another hand seal, using the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique.

A fireball the size of a fist dropped onto the Mist Ninja's body and burst into fierce flames.

Watching the body burn, Qing Ming reviewed the information he had obtained from the man's mind.

Comparing it with the observations he'd made during the recent skirmish, he confirmed the number and strength of this Mist support unit.

With that, his mission was complete.

After waiting a bit longer for the Mist Ninja's body to burn to ashes, he formed a hand seal and used Wind Release: Wings of the Wind.

Flapping his wings, he flew in the direction of the Blackstone Outpost.

...

Half an hour later.

Near the outpost.

High in the air.

Qing Ming seemed to think of something, suddenly changing direction and flying toward a different location.

After a few minutes, he found a cluster of rocky reefs.

Surveying the area, Qing Ming ensured there was no one around before lowering his altitude and casting Wind Release: Wind Blade!

Swoosh—

A massive blade of wind appeared, slicing through the rocky reef and leveling the area.

Qing Ming landed, nodded in satisfaction, and cast Shadow Clone Technique!

Poof—

Amidst a cloud of chakra smoke, multiple shadow clones appeared.

Without any unnecessary words, Qing Ming issued commands to the clones, instructing them to train there.

As for himself, he headed back to the outpost.

Clearly, he was preparing to return to his old ways, using shadow clones to speed up his training.

Over the past two days, he hadn't done this for two reasons: the impending battle made it unwise to split his focus, and the outpost was crowded with people, making it inconvenient.

But now, thanks to the information he had extracted from the Mist Chunin, Qing Ming knew that there would be no major battles in the coming days.

And, with the successful development of the Communication Technique, he could now communicate with his shadow clones over long distances.

This meant he could make full use of his chakra reserves.

That's how he planned it, and that's exactly what he set out to do.
