As for the remaining Staryu and Kadabra, Sato likewise already had clear training plans in mind.

However, neither of these two Pokémon currently met the prerequisites for his plans. The former was still unevolved, while the latter lacked sufficient psychic energy.

Sato's plan for Staryu was very straightforward. First, raise its level. Then, use a top-grade Water Stone to complete its evolution. Only after that could he truly begin implementing his training concept.

Staryu was a very special Pokémon. Once it evolved into Starmie using a Water Stone, it would permanently lose the ability to learn the level-up moves it could have acquired as Staryu.

In Sato's design, Staryu had to reach level 42 before evolving, because at that level it would naturally learn Psychic, a powerful Psychic-type move.

In Sato's post-evolution training plan for Starmie, Psychic would be the absolute core.

After evolving, Starmie would formally become a Psychic-type Pokémon, and its training and control over psychic power would become far more refined.

At the same time, it was also a Water-type Pokémon, naturally gifted in manipulating water.

Invisible telekinesis paired with water's excellent malleability meant that Starmie would certainly be able to use Psychic in combination with its Water-type or other elemental moves to create all kinds of novel techniques.

As for Kadabra's training plan, Sato had thought it through very clearly. It only needed one core move—Teleport. Other Psychic-type moves were secondary at best.

Assassin-style Kadabra was officially online.

Yes, Sato planned to have Kadabra focus almost exclusively on training Teleport and Calm Mind. As for other Psychic-type moves that consumed large amounts of psychic energy, casual practice would be enough for now.

Kadabra's combat style would revolve around using Teleport to evade enemy attacks, completing Calm Mind during evasions to strengthen itself, and then launching surprise attacks through Teleport combined with non-Psychic moves that didn't drain psychic energy.

However, this entire strategy hinged on Kadabra possessing a sufficiently large psychic energy pool.

After all, even a short-range Teleport (within one meter) consumed at least 10 points of psychic energy.

Sato had already calculated that Teleport's energy cost was directly proportional to distance—roughly 10 psychic energy per meter—with a cooldown of about one second between uses.

Of course, Psychic-type beings could use Teleport consecutively, but doing so would multiply the psychic energy consumption.

With Kadabra's current 383 psychic energy, sustained Teleport combat was still difficult. If it also used other Psychic-type moves, the number of times it could use Teleport would drop even further.

In short, Psychic-type Pokémon were relatively weak in the early stages. Almost every Psychic-type move consumed psychic energy.

Thus, the strength of a Psychic-type Pokémon was closely tied to the size of its psychic energy pool.

Fortunately, Kadabra's psychic energy growth rate was very reliable. It was still increasing by 2 points per day.

Moreover, possibly due to its Inner Focus–like psychic trait, its recovery speed was astonishing. Even without deliberate meditation, it recovered 30 psychic energy per minute.

Additionally, as Kadabra leveled up, its psychic energy would increase significantly—about 5 points per level. Sato estimated that it wouldn't be long before Kadabra officially stepped into the Intermediate psychic tier.

According to Sato's expectations, once Kadabra surpassed 1,000 psychic energy, this combat style would become extremely dominant.

Unless the enemy immediately used Taunt to seal Teleport, or possessed exceptionally strong prediction skills, they would simply be toyed with endlessly by Teleport.

It had to be said—Psychic-type Pokémon, like Dragon-types, were late bloomers. Given enough time to grow, becoming top-tier Pokémon was only a matter of time.

"Still a long way to go. Training all of these Pokémon to full maturity will probably take at least a year or two. I'll take it one step at a time. What matters most right now is earning League contribution points and exchanging them for training resources."

Sato thought this while eating canned pork cutlet rice for dinner, watching his Pokémon—already full—playing outside in the rainy weather.

The heavy rain continued until deep into the night before finally tapering off. By then, Sato and Kadabra had already entered deep meditation.

As soon as the rain stopped, hungry nocturnal creatures began emerging to hunt.

Since Route 117 was a major habitat for Volbeat and Illumise, it didn't take long for the once-dark forest to be illuminated by the glowing tails of Volbeat as they ventured out to feed.

Originally, it was a peaceful and serene scene—but the arrival of carnivorous creatures quickly shattered that calm.

Zangoose and Seviper were natural enemies. Whenever they met, a fierce battle was almost inevitable—and usually ended with one side dead.

Sure enough, right after the rain, a starving Seviper encountered three Zangoose in the forest. Though outnumbered, Seviper didn't flee. Instead, it fiercely launched an attack.

This Seviper was quite powerful—its level was noticeably higher than the three Zangoose, and it even knew Flamethrower, a high-tier Fire-type move. Under its intense flames, the three Zangoose struggled to hold on.

Concerned for their lives, the Zangoose wisely chose not to fight to the bitter end. They scattered and fled in different directions.

One of them happened to flee along a route that passed near the cave where Sato was currently staying.

Unfortunately, the Seviper chose to pursue that very Zangoose.

At the same time, a group of people wearing raincoats were moving through the forest. They were drawn over by the battle between Seviper and Zangoose, following the firelight created by Flamethrower to the scene.

"Just after a rainstorm and it's burned like this already. That's some impressive firepower—I like it."

A burly man glanced at the scorched undergrowth and raised an eyebrow, grinning.

"Lord Homura, it's just a battle between wild Pokémon. They're not enemies. The leader ordered us to reach Verdanturf Town as soon as possible."

Seeing his expression, a female team member immediately sensed trouble and spoke up.

"Enough nagging. We still have half a day. Plenty of time. You go on ahead—I'll catch up."

The man named Homura immediately scowled at her, waved her off dismissively, then shrugged.

After tossing his raincoat to her, he followed the trail Seviper had left behind and chased after it without hesitation.
