Chapter 161 - Damien's Side Of The Story

Katherine trembled. Her life had become a living nightmare.

She had lost everything. Her wealth, her luxurious lifestyle, and the respect she once commanded were all gone.

She also refused to eat the disgusting food that was given to them.

"Hey, you, come here." A woman Katherine shared a cell with called out to her.

Katherine's spine shifted at the voice. She closed her eyes tightly and took a deep breath.

"Be fast!"

"O-ok,"

Before she could get to her, two women pushed her to the floor.

"When she says be fast, you run. Got it?"

Her hair was pulled back as one woman whispered in her ear.

_

"He killed himself?" Hannah asked.

She scoffed as a smile formed on her lips.

"At least he took care of it himself."

She turned to face her guard. Her face dropped.

"I heard Emeralde visited that old lady."

"Yes, miss."

"Make sure the old lady zips it."

-

"I need to talk to her," Damien said as he squeezed Aurora's hand.

They went out for some baby clothes as they thought about the truth.

"Are you sure, Damien? We- we can wait."

Damien smiled at her. He caressed her face and leaned in for a kiss.

"We have to tell her. She deserves the truth.

"But. What if?"

"It's fine, Aurora. We need to tell her the truth."

Aurora nodded at him.

They got out of the car. Damien walked towards Avery's room since she wasn't downstairs.

As he stood in front of her door, he took a deep breath. He raised his hand to knock but paused. He clenched and unclenched his hand before knocking.

"Come in," Avery said.

Damien opened the door and found Avery sitting on the sofa.

"How are you doing?"

She hadn't expected his voice. For a moment, she wondered whether she was dreaming.

"What do you want?" she asked coldly

"Avery, calm down. Getting emotional isn't good for you or the baby."

"Then what do you want?"

Avery took a deep breath.

"Can I sit?"

She said nothing.

Damien sat beside her and reached for her hand, but she immediately pulled away.

"Avery, I understand you're angry with your mother and me. I can explain everything."

Avery turned to him and raised her brow.

Damien chuckled.

"I met your mother in Mexico. We were both freshmen in college. She was on a scholarship. I was way out of her league."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"As we spent our time in school, my feelings for her grew. I decided to confess to her, but I found out she was dating someone."

Avery listened silently.

"Then one day, she argued with her boyfriend and ran off crying. I happened to be there. I comforted her, and gradually became friends. A few months later she broke up with her boyfriend, and we started dating."

His smile faded.

"We were together for five years before your mother decided to return to stay in Mexico. In those five years, she became pregnant with you while I was working for my father. My- my father's rivals found out about her and targeted her."

He lowered his gaze.

"We decided to keep you a secret to protect you both. Your mother returned to the UK, changed her identity and appearance, and disappeared."

"Then why didn't you come looking for us?"

"I-I tried, Avery. I used to call, but eventually, I stopped. My father retired, and I was the new leader. My phone and everything were being monitored."

Damien sighed.

"But I never stopped watching over you. I made sure I was there for the little things in your life. Including your trip to Canada. I was around, baby. Just not personally."

Tears stream down her face, Avery looked at the otherside she she wiped her tears.

"I'm sorry," Damien said as he also wiped his tears.

"I'm here now. I promise to make it up to you and your baby. If you allow it."

Avery turned and looked at him.

"Do you really feel sorry?"

Damien snapped his head at her and nodded drastically.

"I do, Avery. Every day was a nightmare for me. I wanted to see both you and your mother, but I couldn't"
