Chapter 138 - Picture

"Ma'am, the antidote has been prepared," a voice came through the phone.

Avery nodded.

Everything was going according to plan. She'd sneaked her mom out of the hospital. The safe house Alex owned. With the antidote prepared, her mom would soon wake up.

Maximum's funeral was being held in the annex of the Gibson mansion. Muted whispers and the clicking of champagne glasses filled the annex; it was more like a family gathering than a funeral. They did a closed casket.

Nobody wanted to remember what Max looked like. Jolly clutched the teddy bear Max had as a kid and stared at the framed picture.

Veronica sipped on her champagne and scrolled through her phone. A notification came through, and the colour drained from her face.

Avery's alive.

Her hand gripped the flute tightly.

"Impossible," she whispered and stood up from her seat.

Another notification came through with a picture attached.

She walked out of the annex and stood under a tree.

She clicked on the picture.

"Avery. Imposible."

She exited the picture with her fingers trembling and booked a flight to the UK.

She was going to deal with it herself.

He slammed the door as he got in. This was becoming exhausting.

He rested his head on the headboard and adjusted his shirt.

His phone rang in his pocket, which made him open his eyes.

"Speak,"

"Sir, Mrs Avery has found the antidote. Should we help her or still stay in the shadows?"

Alex smirked before replying. "Stay in the shadows."

He'd found his wife's location days ago. But he had to keep an eye on her in the shadows. He didn't want to ruin her plans.

" Just support her from afar. Let her shine on her own before you show yourself." Alex remembers what Stefan told him when he found his wife's location.

Two weeks have passed since Maximus ' funeral was held in the annex of the Gibson mansion. Two weeks have passed since Veronica discovered Avery was alive.

Two weeks had passed since Ben betrayed her.

"Avery first. Then I'd deal with that traitor Ben."

She'd booked the earliest flight to the UK.

She hadn't informed anyone.

Not that Alex would care.

He never cared.

She tipped back the glass and swallowed the whisky in one gulp.

The flight attendant's voice came through the speakers, announcing their departure.
