Chapter 19 - Chapter 11: Supermarket

Over here, Song Zhao and Gu Yanlin dove into the water and swam directly toward the nearest house.

The house they chose was a two-story small building with a terrace extending out on the second floor, and the roof had a loft. From the nearby water's surface, only the pointed top of the loft was visible.

The two climbed onto the roof for a breath, then plunged back down.

This area was already the countryside of City C. The houses had an older style, and the doors and windows weren't very sturdy. But due to the water's buoyancy, they had to kick the door on the terrace a full ten times together before it finally opened.

After kicking it open, they didn't enter the house immediately but swam up, climbed onto the roof, and gasped for air.

They hadn't brought oxygen bottles. Intense exercise in the water increased oxygen consumption, and an average person would have run out of air by now. Thankfully, they had undergone relevant training and had decent lung capacity.

After resting on the roof for a while, feeling recovered, they took a deep breath and dove back down.

Entering the room from the terrace, the first thing they did was open all the windows and doors on the second and first floors to make it easier to exit later.

After completing this task, they surfaced again for air before officially entering the house to search for supplies.

They sank directly to the bottom and entered the house through the front door on the first floor. Upon entering, they found themselves in a living room, with a classic decoration style. At first glance, they saw a liver-colored sofa, a coffee table, and a dining table floating messily in the air. The TV was half hanging on the wall, and the refrigerator, being quite heavy, had fallen to the ground.

Due to the murky water, visibility was poor, so they could only make out general shapes. From the blurry shadows, they found the kitchen. They had roughly identified the rooms' functions when opening the windows and doors earlier.

The kitchen was their primary target; everything else was secondary.

While rummaging in the kitchen, they got lucky. They found two gas tanks, an unopened bag of thirty pounds of rice, a bottle of ketchup, and a drum of oil.

They didn't take any opened items since they'd been soaked for so long in dirty water. Who knew what bacteria might be lurking there? Better to be safe.

They dragged each item out of the water little by little, first the ketchup and oil, then the rice, and finally the two gas tanks.

"I should have let my sister come," Gu Yanlin thought while dragging the rice. When pulling the gas tanks, he really started missing the space.

A full gas tank weighs at least thirty kilograms. With the water's resistance and the energy spent dragging the rice, lifting the gas tanks out indeed took considerable effort from the two.

If the space were here, it would be much more comfortable. They could place it directly into the space for convenience and effort-saving.

Gu Yanzhi had been keeping an eye on the activity in the water. Seeing the two surfacing with items, he immediately rowed the speedboat to their location. Zhuang Nanyang also came along, leaving Zhang Qian by the big tree to watch the speedboat since he was a guy and had more strength.

Actually, the tree was right at the village's entrance, not far from the first house, so it was manageable.

"Brother Song, Brother Yanlin, you had quite the luck!" Zhuang Nanyang remarked, noticing the sack of rice among the supplies.

"Mr. Song, you've already harvested something? That's quite a haul," Zhuang Nanyang's mom and dad said as they surfaced from the water for air.

The houses in the countryside were built closely together. Though each family had their own yard, the distance between two houses was just two to three meters.

Every time they came up for air, they would meet others doing the same and exchange a few words about their findings.

However, compared to Song Zhao and Gu Yanlin's luck, others weren't as fortunate. Their strength was insufficient to kick open doors like Song Zhao and Gu Yanlin, forcing them to search for houses with unlocked windows or doors.

But the villagers' awareness was quite notable. After probing four or five houses, they hadn't found one that was unlocked.

"It's no use; I can't get into the houses," Gao Zhi and Liu Sisi emerged from the water complaining.

They, like the Zhuang parents, hadn't found a single accessible house.
