Chapter 39 - Chapter 28 Rescue Supplies

Gu Yanzhi and Song Zhao were upstairs in the end not only to check for any fish that escaped the net, but also to install bombs on every floor, it was better to let all this evil disappear.

The three of them dared to do this because there were no other buildings nearby, and no one living around, so it wouldn't hurt any innocent people.

The three surviving young women who had walked quite far heard the noise and turned back to witness the scene that they could never forget. In the firelight and smoke, the outline of the building gradually blurred, its existence had become a memory of the past, a fading memory.

Tears hung on their faces as the three shared a knowing smile and continued to walk towards home.

Gu Yanzhi and the other two also slid far away, watching from a distance as the building full of evil disappeared completely.

The night in City C was quiet, but the huge booming noise startled many still sleeping people. There were a lot of people coming out to watch the commotion, the night's peace was broken, and many people appeared on the street.

When Gu Yanzhi and the other two returned, they had to carefully avoid the crowds as their outfits were hard to miss.

As they neared the building downstairs, they changed their shoes to normal snow boots, removed their night-vision goggles and masks, wrapped their faces with scarves, and put on a layer of down jackets over their adjustable temperature coats, blending into the crowd.

There were a few curious people downstairs who came to watch the commotion and didn't think much when they saw Gu Yanzhi and the others, only assuming they had also come down to look, just arriving earlier without bumping into anything.

"Sister Yan Zhi, do you know what's going on?" Zhang Qian asked proactively upon seeing Gu Yanzhi and the others emerge from the crowd.

"We don't know either, we only heard that it seems like some building collapsed." Gu Yanzhi also wore a face of confusion, pretending to just hear about the discussion.

The building collapsed in an instant, very few witnessed the scene, mostly smoke billowing like a sandstorm covering the sky, rising into the air.

Everyone gathered downstairs to discuss for a while, and then they all returned home to continue resting as the smoke gradually dissipated.

When Gu Yanzhi and the others left, it was one o'clock in the morning, by the time they arrived home, the day was already breaking. Coupled with having rested late the previous day, all three were exhausted and sleepy.

Without bothering to eat, they washed up and fell into dreams.

They were woken again by the urgent knocking at the door.

"Who's there, it's so annoying," Gu Yanzhi mumbled, turning over and pulling the quilt over her head to continue sleeping.

"You keep sleeping, I'll go check," Song Zhao, also awoken by the knocking, comfortingly patted Gu Yanzhi, got out of bed, put on clothes, and went out.

As soon as he opened the door of the room, the temperature in the living room was noticeably cooler than inside the bedroom.

To prevent suspicion from sudden visits at home, Gu Yanzhi and the others only had heating equipment on in two bedrooms and the study, moving meals and conversations into the study.

However, because several rooms had heating on, heat spread out, keeping the living room warmer than outside.

When Song Zhao opened the door, the cold air hit his face, he silently wrapped his coat tighter, and the sleepiness that lingered in his mind instantly cleared up.

"Uncle Zhang, what's up?" The one knocking turned out to be Uncle Zhang, his face full of joy, as though happy news was on its way.

"Xiao Song, the government's rescue has come today," Uncle Zhang announced with good news right off the bat.

"In the afternoon, bring your ID cards or any other identification proof, you can go to Songshan District Government to collect supplies," Uncle Zhang spoke with a constant smile on his face, finally, government rescue that had been awaited for over two months had arrived.

"Don't forget this afternoon, everyone in the family must go, it's distributed per head, and population registration needs to be done. At one o'clock, we'll gather downstairs as a group and go together for support. You'll be busy, I'll go let the others know," Uncle Zhang left promptly after speaking, Song Zhao wanted to say thanks but couldn't manage before Uncle Zhang's lighthearted figure showed his good mood.

"Who's there~" Hearing Song Zhao undressing, Gu Yanzhi asked in a daze, Song Zhao quietly explained about Uncle Zhang asking them to collect supplies in the afternoon.

Gu Yanzhi let out an "Oh," and fell back asleep.

Song Zhao set the alarm for 12 o'clock and lay back down, holding Gu Yanzhi in his arms and continued to sleep.

At 12, the alarm rang on time.

Song Zhao and Gu Yanzhi got up, also waking Gu Yanlin. The three sat in the study, eating brunch, having not eaten for nearly 18 hours and having used so much energy overnight, all were exceedingly hungry.

With their stomachs full, Gu Yanzhi could think about how, in the past life, the government rescue began several days later than now. By the time government departments intervened, Gu Yanzhi had already been imprisoned by Gu Qiang.

Later, when she escaped, she heard the apocalypse came too suddenly; City C had no material reserves.

Originally, resources were immediately dispatched from out of town, but City C was enveloped by a huge vortex, from inside there was nothing felt, outside people and goods couldn't get in, it was said several times materials were transported but got whisked away without a trace.

Until extreme cold arrived did the vortex disappear, but those sucked in and materials vanished without a trace. In the previous life due to the vortex, plus being unable to contact people in City C, the country had relaxed monitoring of City C. Considering the national disaster influence, limited time and energy were spent where reachable.

It was days after City C's vortex disappeared that people knew, hastily sending rescue teams.

This life seemed a bit different, the country believed in the letter Gu Yanzhi sent out, constantly monitoring City C's situation, which allowed rescue supplies to arrive so quickly.

However, Gu Yanzhi wondered why the country hadn't pre-stockpiled materials in City C when they already trusted her letter.

Moreover, in the previous life, some governmental officials were seen calming public emotions, but in this life, they seemed to have vanished.

When they left in the afternoon, Gu Yanzhi's question was answered.

At one in the afternoon, residents of Building 10 gathered downstairs. Each family dragged a small cart, walking on the way to the Songshan District Government building with a dozen or so people and 7 or 8 handcarts, conspicuous in sight.

But now everyone hurried to receive supplies, so no one with bad intentions dared to provoke.

Walking, Uncle Zhang relayed the message he received today to everyone.

Early in the morning, the government sent people outside the building holding a loudspeaker, urging each building to send a building leader to attend a meeting, but Gu Yanzhi and the others were sleeping soundly and didn't hear the call.

Anyway, Building 10's default leader was Uncle Zhang, no need to consult everyone's opinion.

At the meeting, there was a simple explanation why today was the first arrival of rescue supplies, initially City C had stationed rescue teams and prepared supplies, but things didn't go as planned.

Originally, the rescue team's site was chosen to be very safe, not susceptible to floods, but mysteriously, when the heavy rain hit, their base collapsed directly. At the time, City C's leadership was also in a meeting there and were all gone instantly.
