Todo lunged.

Maki spun, using her spear like a pivot to whip herself into a full circle. The blade carved a lethal arc straight for Todo's throat.

But this time he didn't clap.

He just caught the spear.

With his bare hands.

Maki's eyes went wide.

"What—"

Todo yanked the weapon hard, ripping Maki off balance. She had no chance to block the kick that slammed into her ribs.

Something cracked.

Her body flew several meters, tumbling across the dirt before slamming into a boulder. Pain detonated in her chest; every breath felt like knives.

"Shit…" she groaned, spitting blood.

Todo let the broken spear drop to the ground and rolled his shoulders.

"That's Tokyo's new first-years? Pathetic."

His gaze shifted to the red flag fluttering between two trees about fifty meters away. A grin crept back across his face.

"Well then, let's go grab that—"

A presence.

Todo froze. His battle instincts screamed. He turned his head slowly.

Someone was standing in front of the flag.

Yuta Okkotsu.

The black-haired boy stood perfectly still, one hand resting on his katana's sheath. His face was pale, his dark eyes locked on Todo with an intensity that sent a chill through the air.

"Oh?" Todo let out a low chuckle. "They saved the best for last?"

Yuta didn't answer. He took one deliberate step forward, then another, walking toward Todo like a storm gathering speed. His fingers closed around the hilt.

Todo spread his arms wide, his grin stretching into something almost manic.

"Perfect. PERFECT! Show me what you've got, kid!"

Yuta exploded forward.

His speed was on another level compared to Maki or Panda. In a blink he was in Todo's face, katana already drawn, a silver streak flashing toward his neck.

Todo clapped.

CLAP

But Yuta had read it. The instant the technique triggered, he reversed his motion, spinning to meet Todo materializing behind him.

CLANG

The blade met Todo's forearm, barely blocked by a last-second burst of cursed energy. Sparks flew.

Todo's eyes lit up.

"Yeah! THAT'S IT!"

He threw a straight left. Yuta ducked, his katana whistling toward Todo's ribs. The exchange became a blur.

CLANG CLANG CLANG

Every strike from Yuta was surgical, aimed at vital points. Todo parried them all, raw experience and brute power holding off superior technique.

CLAP

Todo swapped places with a tree behind Yuta. His fist came down like a hammer.

Yuta rolled aside; the blow cratered the ground where he'd been standing. He countered instantly with a thrust, but—

CLAP

Todo was already somewhere else.

The fight went on like that—minutes that felt like hours. Slowly, a pattern emerged.

Todo spotted an opening.

He faked a clap. Yuta reacted on instinct, adjusting for the swap.

But Todo never clapped.

He just grabbed Yuta's wrist mid-motion.

"Gotcha."

His knee drove into Yuta's gut with devastating force.

All the air left Yuta's lungs in a rush. His vision blurred, pain exploding like fireworks in his stomach.

Todo released him. Yuta dropped to one knee, gasping.

"That it?" Todo asked—not mocking, just disappointed. "With all that potential pouring out of you… that's all you can do?"

Yuta clenched his teeth, trying to stand. His hand shook on the katana hilt.

Todo shook his head, arms folded across his massive chest.

"You're weak. The weakest I've fought today." He paused, eyes drilling into Yuta's soul. "And yet you've got the biggest potential here. Even I can feel it—cursed energy that dwarfs everyone else in this forest."

He leaned in slightly.

"So why? Why are you so damn pathetic?"

The word hit like a slap.

Pathetic.

Memories crashed in—brutal, merciless.

Rika's smile. Her bright, innocent eyes.

"Yuta, when we grow up, let's get married, okay?"

Then darkness. Blood. Screams.

And that face—long black hair, cold eyes, cruel smile.

Geto—no, not Geto. Ryosuke. The one who'd worn his face. The one who'd torn Rika away.

"Thanks for the gift."

Then Gojo's voice, days later.

"You're still weak, Yuta. It's okay to be weak. What's not okay is staying weak."

And this morning. In the hall. That glance across the room with Ryosuke.

He'd smiled. Not mocking. Just… smiling. Like he knew. Like he was daring him.

Yuta lifted his head.

Something shifted in his eyes.

Todo felt it. The grin that had started to fade came roaring back.

"Oh?"

The cursed energy around Yuta began to rise—not in an explosion, but steady, relentless, like a tide coming in. The air vibrated. The pressure climbed with every heartbeat.

Yuta stood slowly, ignoring the agony in his stomach. His grip tightened on the katana.

His lips moved, barely a whisper.

"I'm not… letting anyone… look down on me… ever again."

Todo threw his head back and laughed—a huge, booming sound that echoed through the trees.

"YES! HELL YEAH! THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO SEE!"

He dropped into a fighting stance, fists igniting with cursed energy.

"Come on, kid! Show me what you're really made of!"

Yuta's cursed energy detonated.

The ground beneath him cracked. Leaves blasted away in a ring of pure pressure. His once-dull eyes now burned with dark, ferocious light.

Todo grinned ear to ear.

"Now…" He slammed his fists together. "This is getting interesting."
