Chapter 579: Battle Against the Blacklight Saint
"Elder Guyou, you're finally here," Hun Yu said with a satisfied smile as the hunched old man appeared.
"Yes," Guyou responded with a nod. His green-glowing eyes then turned toward Mo Yu and Qingzhi, the half-saint behind him, as a cold smirk spread across his dry, wrinkled face. "So, you're the ice-attribute half-saint of Yuan Sect? Leave him to me."
Mo Yu raised an eyebrow as Guyou fixed his gaze on him. This was Elder Guyou, the second Tianzun of the Soul Hall. Mo Yu hadn't expected him to show up.
As both sides faced off, the ancient Bodhi Tree that had been standing silently in the space began to hum. Suddenly, the space itself started to ripple with a strange energy. Within moments, the vibrations became more intense until, with a sudden crack, a rift appeared in the space, and a dazzling beam of light shot out from the crack.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
One rift after another formed in quick succession. In mere minutes, the once solid space became riddled with holes, as if it were falling apart. Finally, in a burst of light, the entire space shattered, and the radiance enveloped everyone, transporting them away.
In the Depths of the Wild Ancient Domain
A massive Bodhi Tree stood alone in the center of a vast grassland. Waves of pure energy radiated from the tree, spreading in all directions—a magnificent sight.
Suddenly, a rustling sound broke the silence of the grassland. The Bodhi Tree, which had been standing still for almost a month, suddenly burst into brilliant green light. From within that light, figures began to tumble out one by one, landing on the ground surrounding the tree.
When the last person was thrown out, the Bodhi Tree started trembling violently. Then, a wave of green light spread out from the base of the tree, and the ground beneath it seemed to turn to liquid. Slowly, the Bodhi Tree began sinking into the ground.
Seeing the Bodhi Tree retreating underground, many people's faces showed frustration. Once the tree fully submerged, not even a Dou Saint would be able to find it. The next chance to see it wouldn't come until the tree reappeared, which could be centuries, if not millennia, later.
Mo Yu's eyes gleamed with thought as he considered the Divine Wood Lightning that was still within the Bodhi Tree. As long as he had the Divine Wood Lightning, he would have a connection to the tree. Perhaps in the future, he could even convince the Bodhi Tree to join Yuan Sect. Not only would its incredible battle prowess be an asset, but the Bodhi Seeds alone would be an immense treasure for Yuan Sect.
"Elder Guyou, stop wasting time. We need to capture Mo Yu before it's too late!" Hun Yu said sternly, his eyes filled with determination as he watched the Bodhi Tree disappear.
"Don't rush me. It's been a long time since these old bones have had any action," Guyou replied with a shake of his head. Still, despite his casual words, he stepped forward, his figure flickering as he closed in on Mo Yu.
"These bastards actually called in reinforcements!" one of the ancient clan members behind Xun'er exclaimed angrily, realizing the gravity of the situation.
He quickly grabbed a spatial scroll and crushed it in his hand, but to his dismay, no spatial rift appeared. "It's useless. The space here seems to have been sealed by the Soul Clan's experts. Without their permission, no spatial energy can escape," Xun'er explained calmly.
"Then what should we do? Can Qingzhi, the half-saint from Mo Yu's sect, hold off this Soul Clan expert?" Xiao Yan asked, his voice filled with concern.
Xun'er responded seriously, "Guyou has been famous for a long time, and he's the second Tianzun of the Soul Hall. In terms of strength, perhaps only Yuan Sect's Serpent Saint could match him. As for Qingzhi, he might still be a little lacking. If that weren't the case, the Soul Clan wouldn't have sent only Guyou."
Xiao Yan's face darkened. "If Qingzhi can't defeat him and our spatial scrolls are useless, doesn't that mean Mo Yu is in danger?"
Xun'er frowned slightly but then glanced at Mo Yu, who remained calm and unperturbed. "Not necessarily. Mo Yu has never fought an unprepared battle. He might have already expected the Soul Hall to send reinforcements. Since he doesn't seem worried, we shouldn't fret either. We'll help him if the situation demands it."
Xiao Yan sighed in relief and nodded. "I'll take care of Hun Yu. He's a threat that needs to be dealt with."
Meanwhile, on the battlefield, Guyou sneered as he stared at Mo Yu. "I heard you defeated my junior brother recently. I didn't expect someone so young to have such skill. As expected of the Thunder Clan's divine bloodline. But it's a shame—today, your divine bloodline will die in my hands!"
With those words, Guyou's figure disappeared. The next moment, he reappeared in front of Mo Yu, his hunched figure extending a bony hand to seize him. However, just as Guyou's hand was about to grab Mo Yu, a flash of icy light crossed his vision. In an instant, a terrifying ice pillar shot toward him.
Seeing the ice attack, Guyou didn't dare be careless. He halted his attempt to capture Mo Yu and raised his skeletal staff to block the ice pillar.
Boom!
The ice collided with the staff, unleashing a powerful shockwave that ripped deep cracks into the earth. Xiao Yan, Hun Yu, and the others had to retreat several hundred steps to avoid the deadly force. The battle between saint-level experts was not something ordinary people could watch from up close.
As the ice attack dissipated, an intense cold spread from the shattered pillar, creeping toward Guyou through his staff like a venomous snake. "Hmph!" Guyou grunted, as a burst of black mist erupted from his body, forcing back the cold. However, the chill still caused his face to pale slightly.
"Curse it! How did this kid manage to recruit not one but two saint-level experts?" Guyou thought, his face darkening. Yuan Sect's Serpent Saint and now this rare ice-attribute saint were formidable foes. Two half-saint experts of this caliber would be top-tier forces, even among the eight ancient clans.
For Mo Yu to command such strength without relying on the backing of the Thunder Clan was terrifying.
"Boy, don't think you'll escape today!" Guyou snarled, stepping into the air, his green eyes locked on Mo Yu as he sneered past Qingzhi.
As he spoke, the space in front of him began to tremble violently. Slowly, Guyou raised his right hand and tore open a spatial rift. From within the darkness of the rift, a powerful, storm-like aura began to surge outward.
The terrifying energy left everyone pale with shock. "Another half-saint?!"
Mo Yu's face grew serious. He hadn't expected the Soul Clan to send two half-saint experts just to capture him.
"I can't let them succeed!"
A cold light flickered in Mo Yu's eyes as he waved his sleeve, summoning a bolt of lightning. The lightning transformed into a fierce thunder beast that shot toward the rift at lightning speed.
However, before the beast could explode, a hand emerged from the rift and crushed it. The black mist surrounding the hand corroded the lightning until it dissolved into nothingness.
"Well, well, you again," a familiar voice echoed from the rift. A black-robed figure stepped out, and Mo Yu's lips curled into a cold smile.
The newcomer was none other than the Blacklight Saint, the third Tianzun of the Soul Hall, whom Mo Yu had nearly killed in their previous encounter on the Northwestern Continent.
"So, it's the defeated dog. I didn't think you'd have the nerve to show up in front of me again," Mo Yu sneered.
"You…!" Blacklight Saint's face twisted in anger. His defeat at Mo Yu's hands had been one of his greatest humiliations. Never before in the history of the Dou Qi Continent had a saint-level expert been defeated by a non-saint. But Mo Yu had shattered that precedent, and Blacklight had become the ultimate example of disgrace.
"Enough, Old Third," Guyou cut in coldly. "This isn't the time for revenge. The Hall Master has been merciful in giving you another chance. If you fail again, not even your rank will save you from punishment."
Blacklight's expression grew grim. "Don't worry, Second Tianzun. I won't fail this time. I will capture this brat and deliver him to the Hall Master!"
Last time, Mo Yu had sabotaged Blacklight's soul power, causing his defeat. But this time, Blacklight would not be so careless.
Guyou nodded in agreement. Despite Blacklight's previous failure, Mo Yu, as a mere Dou Zun, couldn't truly match a half-saint's full power. As long as Mo Yu hadn't reached saint-level, he couldn't defeat Blacklight again.
"Begin. I'll hold off Qingzhi. You must capture or kill Mo Yu!" Guyou commanded.
Blacklight nodded and turned to Mo Yu, his eyes full of murderous intent. "Today, you'll finally fall to me!"
"Oh? You think you can beat me?" Mo Yu responded calmly.
"Hmph! Without your dirty tricks, you're no match for me!" Blacklight growled, his face contorting with hatred.
Mo Yu's lips curled into a cold smile. "Then let's fight again. But I warn you—this time, you won't be so lucky."
Though he had used some hidden tactics to defeat Blacklight before, Mo Yu was confident he could beat him again. In the Wild Ancient Domain, he had gained the Divine Lightning Wolf, a force ranked in the top six of the Mysterious Thunder List. Combined with the power he had gained from the Bodhi Seeds, Mo Yu had risen to the peak of the Nine-Star Dou Zun, just a step away from half-saint.
Though the gap between Dou Zun and half-saint was vast, Mo Yu was not afraid. He had defeated Blacklight once, and this time, he intended to make sure the Soul Hall's third Tianzun didn't leave alive.
"Enough talk! Mo Yu, prepare to die!" Blacklight roared, his eyes flashing with killing intent.
Mo Yu remained cold and silent, but just as he was about to attack, several figures rushed to his side—it was Xiao Yan and Xun'er.
"Cousin Mo Yu, we're here to help!" Xiao Yan said, his voice steady.
Mo Yu smiled. "No need. I can handle him. Just keep an eye on Hun Yu for me."
Xiao Yan hesitated for a moment but then nodded, stepping back with the others.
"How arrogant!" Blacklight spat, his face twisting in rage.
