Chapter 81 - Space Paradox - Ruined Catacombs - Trust quiz

As Toriel gently led the line of children through the small pink-brick gate, her warm and comforting aura seemed to ease some of their suspicions, though tension still lingered in the group. Velthara, as the eldest, held Toriel's hand firmly, her sharp eyes scanning the path ahead for any sign of danger. Behind her, Kaeltherion walked with a steady stride, his protective instincts keeping him alert.

The pink-brick walls gave way to a dimly lit corridor, its floors patterned with old, worn tiles. A faint purple hue illuminated the space, giving the Ruins an ancient yet oddly tranquil atmosphere.

Toriel: "The Ruins are filled with puzzles, my children. They are designed to test any who pass through. But do not fear—I will guide you safely."

Velthara: "Puzzles? We don't have time for games. Just get us out of here."

Toriel gave a soft chuckle, her motherly tone soothing.

Toriel: "Patience, dear. The puzzles are not only challenges but lessons. You will see."

Kaeltherion glanced back at the others, nodding slightly to keep them moving. As they proceeded, Toriel stopped before a large stone switch embedded in the ground.

Toriel: "Now, watch carefully. To progress, we must flip this switch. It's simple, but even the simplest actions can carry meaning."

She demonstrated, pulling the lever down with ease. The gate ahead creaked open, revealing another corridor.

Zalthirion: "This feels like a waste of time. Why not just smash through it all?"

Lymtherion smirked.

Lymtherion: "Because not everyone solves problems by breaking things, brother."

Toriel turned, her warm gaze meeting Zalthirion's.

Toriel: "Patience is a virtue, young one. Sometimes, the greatest strength lies in understanding the path, not simply forcing through it."

As they moved further into the Ruins, Toriel stopped once more, this time before a room split into multiple paths.

Toriel: "Now, this room may seem confusing, but it is a test of trust. Follow my lead, and you will pass unharmed."

She stepped onto specific tiles, leading the children in a winding pattern across the room. The children followed, some hesitantly, while Elyssirion and Nythrion clung tightly to each other at the back of the line.

Nythrion: "Do you think Father would trust her?"

Elyssirion: "I don't know... but she feels different. Not like that flower."

Valtheris, walking just ahead of them, grumbled.

Valtheris: "Doesn't mean we let our guard down. Keep your eyes open."

Once they reached the other side, Toriel stopped and turned to face the children.

Toriel: "You see, my children? Trust and guidance will always lead you safely. Now, let us continue."

The group pressed onward, the atmosphere shifting slightly as the Ruins became darker and quieter. Velthara glanced back at the others, her voice low.

Velthara: "Stay alert. Something about this place feels... alive."

Toriel's voice broke the tension.

Toriel: "Do not fear, my children. So long as you are with me, no harm shall come to you."

Her words, though reassuring, didn't fully ease the unease that lingered in the group as they ventured deeper into the Ruins, each step taking them closer to the unknown challenges ahead.
