In the Kanto region, John located an NPC named Bill at the Cerulean Cape Laboratory on Route 25. He was the unfortunate researcher who had conducted Pokemon teleportation experiments, accidentally fusing himself with a Clefairy in the process.
After helping separate Bill from the Clefairy using the machine, John received the Tri-Pass for access to the Sevii Islands.
Since John had already conquered Victory Road in the Kanto region, Bill granted him a pass to the entire Sevii Islands archipelago.
With this pass, John could move freely throughout the island chain.
He flew to Vermilion City Harbor, then boarded the ferry to the Sevii Islands.
John arrived at the Sevii Islands at 11 PM.
Opening his map, John immediately locked onto Birth Island's location.
Just southeast of the Sevii Islands sat a triangular-shaped island. If his research was correct, this had to be Birth Island.
John immediately flew to the Seven Island, closest to Birth Island, then began surfing across the ocean. He activated a Max Repel to avoid wild Pokemon encounters and headed directly south.
The distance was extremely long in reality, but passed quickly on his Gameboy.
Two minutes later, John reached the triangular island and circled until he found the entrance.
As he approached, a prompt appeared before his eyes.
[Yes/No to enter dungeon "Visitor from Outer Space" (disappears after first completion)]
[Dungeon recommended entry level: 95]
"Perfect!" John's eyes lit up with excitement.
Everything was exactly as he'd theorized.
"Visitor from Outer Space", this had to be Deoxys.
Even if it wasn't Deoxys specifically, any legendary Pokemon with a recommended entry level of 95 would be valuable.
John remembered that the dungeon containing dark Lugia had suggested level 90.
Therefore, the Deoxys inside should be stronger than his captured Lugia.
"Enter!" John selected without hesitation. Having traveled this far, he wouldn't turn back now.
Light and shadow flickered before his eyes, and when his vision cleared, John stood on a small tropical island.
A warm breeze carried ocean scents, and brilliant sunshine illuminated the peaceful scene. A dense forest swayed gently in the wind ahead of him.
The forest seemed eerily quiet, devoid of ordinary Pokemon.
Beyond the forest, at the island's exact center, a bare clearing hosted a watermelon-sized light green crystal floating in midair, sparkling brilliantly under the sunlight.
When John stepped onto the clearing, the crystal flashed. An orange humanoid form materialized around it, featuring dark green and orange tentacles for arms, clearly not a Pokemon native to Earth.
Above its head, information slowly appeared:
[Deoxys LV90]
"A level 90 Deoxys," John's tension eased slightly.
This was encouraging news.
If it had been a level 100 Pokemon like Dark Mewtwo, he might have needed desperate measures. Even though Deoxys was arguably weaker than Mewtwo in raw power, level 90 remained within manageable parameters.
John silently retrieved his Pokeballs.
Gengar, Zeraora, Gardevoir, Greninja, Lugia, and Zoroark all materialized simultaneously.
Colorful light immediately surrounded Gengar and Gardevoir as they underwent Mega Evolution, while Greninja completed its bond transformation.
All six Pokemon focused intently on Deoxys like a supernatural hit squad.
While John observed Deoxys, the alien Pokemon studied him in return. Seeing John deploy multiple Pokemon at once, all glaring menacingly, it immediately understood his intentions.
Its torso suddenly contracted, ears and limbs sharpening as its form shifted dramatically.
"Attack form?" John's mouth curved into a slight smile. He'd expected Deoxys might flee.
Instead, it was choosing to fight!
He remembered from the movies that when Deoxys first arrived on the Pokemon planet, it had battled Rayquaza so fiercely it nearly got itself destroyed.
"Gardevoir, Future Sight!"
"Gengar, Phantom General!"
"Zeraora, Electric Terrain!" John issued rapid-fire commands, and his Pokemon responded instantly.
Zoroark crouched low and raised its head like a wolf howling at the moon.
"Greninja, Substitute!"
Positioning himself among his six Pokemon, John locked onto Deoxys with determined focus.
This represented one of Greninja's recent training breakthroughs in developing exclusive techniques. Rather than simple Substitute, John preferred naming it after a technique from old anime: "Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu."
"Gengar!" The purple specter grinned with malicious delight as shadows of ten phantom deities materialized behind it.
Zeraora had already levitated skyward, blazing like a miniature sun. With itself as the epicenter, it spread endless rays of light in all directions. Within moments, several kilometers of ocean including the entire island were shrouded in Electric Terrain.
A perfect trap had been set. Today, Deoxys would be captured no matter what!
"Lugia, ascend and use Rain Dance!"
Greninja straightened its posture and pressed its palms together. Immediately, countless phantoms emerged from its body, one, two, three, dozens of identical Greninja in formation.
Lugia soared skyward, roaring as it summoned storm clouds. Birth Island's previously sunny skies were instantly shrouded in thick darkness, overwhelming pressure bearing down. Since its capture by John, Lugia's level had rapidly increased to 91. If not for concerns about matching the speed-form Deoxys's velocity, John would have considered letting it battle alone.
Mega Gardevoir stretched both hands skyward, its body lifting into the air. Its flowing black dress rippled in winds generated by psychic energy running wild. Predicting the future of a fellow Psychic-type Pokemon required maximum power.
"Zoroark, Spear Pillar!"
The island that had been peacefully swaying in forest breezes a moment ago suddenly transformed into something resembling Arceus's temple altar, as if the Spear Pillar itself had descended.
The primordial forms of Palkia and Dialga burst forth dramatically.
