"Kylie, what's he doing here now? I've decided to turn a leaf, and not cause trouble with him or his girl, but it seems like he's everywhere," I said to Kylie, slightly hitting my forehead with my palms.
"Selena, it seems that you are forgetting that I am also a freshman, just as you are," Kylie replied, chuckling.
"Oh, well. You have a brother here, so you must be familiar with Nicholas. I mean, how else would you be so into him, like you are?" I asked, so the story of her fondness of Nicholas, made sense.
"I do know he isn't a freshman like us; he's a sophomore. He gained admission into college at the same time my brother did. I came here whenever my mom wanted to give foodstuffs and other 'boy stuff' to my older brother. So that's why I know him, that's all." Kylie said, clarifying my thoughts.
"Kylie, are you sure that's all? Hmm?" I asked as I tickled her sides. Kylie laughed so much that her eyes began to water.
"Stop, Selena!" She begged.
Well, not until she spilled the beans.
"Okay, I do like him, just a little. Now stop," she said finally. When I let go of her sides, she heaved a sigh of relief.
"I appreciate your honesty," I said, and chuckled. My eyes scanned the hallway again, as Kylie and I walked while we had our conversations. My eyes met his again, he was with two other boys, grinning about something I wasn't sure about.
As we came closer to where he was, I looked at Kylie, and she nodded her head in response. Which I guessed meant, I had better ignored him.
I intertwined my hands with Kylie's, and walked past Nicholas, and his buddies.
Just as we did, I heard one of the guys next to Nicholas say, "Isn't she the brave girl whom you spoke about?" the guy asked.
I turned my head backwards, to see who said that, and what was going to happen next.
Nicholas stared at the guy like he'd kill him, for revealing what he had said about me.
"Shut up man." Nicholas said, and walked away from them.
I thought he wanted to go somewhere else, so I turned in the direction I was walking to with Kylie. But to my surprise and Kylie's, he walked toward us, and stood right in front of us. We came to a halt, it was Nicholas Carson standing in front of us after all.
"Um, can I have a second with you, Selena? Nicholas asked. His voice sounded so soothing, so calm, so serene.
So he can be this polite? Too late, I already don't like you, Mister.
"Yes. Kylie I'd be with you shortly." I said to Kylie, as i motioned for her to walk a bit forward.
"Sure, Selena.", Kylie said, and walked away.
"So, what do you want, Mister?" I asked Nicholas, with my hands folded across my chest.
I watched as he cleared his throat, I couldn't help but stare at the beauty standing in front of me. Good gracious.
"I want to apologize to you, for my behavior earlier. I had an altercation with someone, before I came to school... so I was upset, and unfortunately vented my anger on you. I really am sorry, Selena." He said. He did sound sincere. Just a little.
"Hmm. So you know how to apologize? I'm surprised." I said, sarcastically. My hands still across my chest.
"Come on, let go of your anger towards me. I mean, you literally smacked me across the face." He said, reminding me of my behavior towards him as well.
"Well, I'm sorry for doing that. I just couldn't put up with your attitude." I said, as a matter of factly.
"I apologize for my 'attitude'. I hope we can start all over again, seeing that you are a freshman here in English Language and Literature department. I'm in my second year, and this also is my discipline. Without further ado, I am Nicholas Carson, it is a pleasure to meet you." He said, with an outstretched hand.I bet he hoped I took it in for a handshake.
Just then my brain replayed his words, "I'm in my second year, and this is also my discipline."
What? Why? Oh, my goodness. So I'd have to see him everyday?
Although we aren't enemies, I still didn't want to see him everyday, come on!
"I only knew you were a sophomore, I had no idea you'd also be in the same department as Kylie and I. How intriguing.
Anyways, I'm Selena Williams, it's nice to meet you too." I said, as I took in his hands. His hands seemed unusually warm and cold at the same time. I faked a smile at him, while asking myself if it really was nice to meet him.
"I hope we get along much better," he said while letting go of my hands. I smiled at him, saying, "I hope so too."
"Well, that's all I wanted to discuss with you. Thanks for your time. See you around." He said, and walked off, not even waiting for my response.
I walked toward Kylie, who I was sure was, dying to know what happened.
I told her everything that had happened, from the fact that he apologized, to the revelation that he was studying the same course as us, and that he wanted he and I to 'get along better'.
"Wow, so that means I'd get to see Nicholas everyday? Oh my goodness, I'm so excited." She said, and smiled sheepishly.
"Oh, come on. Here we go again." I said, rolling my eyes.
"What? It's not my fault that he is such a beauty, is it?". Kylie teased.
No,, neither was it mine. Nicholas was too good looking for his own good
"Let's get going, Kylie." I said to her.
We were heading to our respective homes before we met him. It seems she had forgotten.
"Yes, home. Let's go," she said smiling.
She ran kicking her legs in the air, like a highschool girl who was deeply in love.
"Selena, would you want my brother to drop you off at your place? Our houses aren't situated in the same street" Kylie asked.
Was that even a question, dearest Kylie?
"Yes, I do!" I said, excitedly.
"Slow down girl, you're playing with fire. You may get burnt." Kylie said, as she eyed me.
I laughed loudly, "I don't mind, my love." I replied, smiling at her sweetly.
"I'd ring him up. Well, as for me... I'd head over to my boyfriend's place." She said. I stared at her, surprised.
Boyfriend?? She has a boyfriend? I was lost.
"Wait, what? You have a boyfriend?" I asked, still surprised.
"Yes, I do. Why do u look so surprised?" Kylie asked, and laughed.
"Well, because you never mentioned that you do. Does your boyfriend know you fan girl over Nicholas Carson?" I teased.
"Girl, shut up" she warned.
"Well, whatever. Do well to ring your brother up, and give me his number as well." I said again to her.
"Hello, Mike? Where are you? Please, I want you to drop Selena at her house, because I'm going over to Jayden's place today. Please, I'm begging" she pleaded.
I hoped he said "yes".
"Really? Thank you so much. We are outside our department building. Be here in five minutes." Kylie said. Her voice laced authority.
I doubt Mike was really older than she was. Or was she her parent's favorite? Only favorite children spoke with such audacity.
"Selena, he'd be here soon. His department is close by," Kylie assured.
Her phone rang, and she picked up. "Are you here now?, oh, seen you." She said, before ending the call.
She pulled me out of our department building, toward a sliver Lexus 350 car. As we came closer, the door to the driver's seat opened, and the boy who reminded me of Adonis, the greek god of beauty, came out.
He waved his right hands, and called out, "Over here.."
When Kylie and I stood in front of the car, she said, "We aren't blind. We saw you over here".
"I'm talking to beautiful Selena, not you." He said. I was sure to spite his sister.
Not like he meant it.
"Oh, please." Kylie said, and rolled her eyes out of irritation. "Here she is, get her home safely," she added.
"Trust me to do just that," Mike said, assuring her of my safety.
"Selena, I'd see you tomorrow morning. Love you." She said, as she pulled me in for a hug. I melted in her embrace, she was such a sweet person.
"See you too, Kylie. Love you more." I said, and broke our hug.
She watched as I climbed into the passenger seat of the car, as Mike started the car, and zoomed off. Then she walked towards a commercial bus line around college.
"So, um Selena... where do you live?" Mike asked, which made me realize that we were in the car alone.
I cleared my throat, and said, "Fifth Street."
I was nervous.
The car seemed so hot, was it just me?
"Could u turn on the air conditioner? I feel hot." I said to him. He nodded, and turned it on.
The drive was a very silent and awkward one, as no one was willing to say anything to the other.
When he had gotten to my house, I cleared my throat again and said, "Thank you so much for driving me home."
"You're welcome, anytime." He said. He alighted, and turned around to open up the car door for me.
I mouthed a 'thank you', and he nodded.
Before I had walked into my house, he called out to me again.
"Um, Selena... would it be okay if I could get your number?" He asked, as he beamed with smiles.
"Yeah, sure," I said, as I took his phone and dialed in my number.
"Thank you so much, I'd text you later. See you tomorrow." He said.
I nodded, and walked into my house.
After I entered the sitting room, I turned to shut the door behind me.
I turned again to walk back to my room, upstairs. My mom came out of nowhere, scaring the living daily light out of me.
"Mom! You scared me. Jesus!" I exclaimed, while placing my hands on my chest.
"Sorry, but that's not the big deal now," my mom said.
"So what then is the big deal?" I asked, curious.
"The big deal is, who is he?!" My mom asked, and pulled me to sit on a sofa.
I knew for sure my mom had watched me from one of the windows.
Oh, my mom!
As I sat down, I explained everything that happened to me today. The altercation with Nicholas, meeting Kylie for the first time; the blonde girl's show at the cafeteria, my first meeting with Mike, my first class with Kylie, Nicholas's apology, and finally, Mike driving me home.
"Wow, a lot happened to you on your first day, Selena. How intriguing." My mom teased.
"I know right?" I said, and laughed.
"Well, about Mike..." She started.
"Mom, stop. He is a playboy, he doesn't do commitments. And I am also not interested in all these dating hassles. I just like him as a person, not that I want to date him." I said, disregarding every thoughts of my Mother, which was related with me dating Mike.
"I'm going over to me room, I'm stressed out and exhausted. Goodnight,"
It was past 7pm already, and yes I do sleep early. Sometimes.
I did have the most stressful first day at college!
