Instead of jealousy or annoyance, I felt a bit of pity for Charlotte, surprising even myself. Being King Titus' wife is by no means a curse, but Charlotte has no idea what awaits her.
"Please don't worry about me." Charlotte said, apparently seeing the pity in my eyes. "This may not be what I dreamed of as a child, but King Titus is most attractive. His majesty has so much power, and he is already so loved by so many. I do not resent my father for this."
"I understand." I replied. "I wish you luck."
"Does it not bother you?"
"No, certainly not. King Titus has so many wives that one more will make no difference. Personally, I would be relieved to have another friend nearby."
"That is such a relief. I was so worried about what Lady Suzan or your highness would think of me. Wait, how many wives does his majesty have?"
"I doubt anyone knows the exact figure, but it must be more than two hundred."
"Two hundred?!" Charlotte gasped. "How!?"
