Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 - The City of Lund

Nathan finally caught up to Nott, ready to throw hands, but paused, realizing a paved road stopped her. "Finally! A road that leads to civilization. I had full faith in you, Nott!" Nathan looked at her, beaming. She just sighed and asked, "So, which way do you want to go? The town I remember is east of here, so we would go left. As you said, it's been a few millennia, so it may not be there anymore, but it could have developed further and become a city instead of a ruin."

Nathan thought for a moment. He could go left, where there are either ruins or a city, or hope to find a random town or city. After thinking for a few minutes, he started digging in his pockets to pull something out. "We'll use this," as he pulls his pocket knife out, "I'll spin, and whichever way it spins, that's where we'll go." Nott just nodded, seeming to go along with it. "Then it's settled, let's see which way we are going." Nathan bent down and spun the knife on the pavement. Without Nathan being able to see it, Nott messed with the knife with magic to point to the left. Nathan, still oblivious, "Looks like we'll be going left after all, let's see this 'Town' you talk about." Nathan started walking while Nott followed behind, a mischievous smile on her face, knowing Nathan truly didn't see her cheat.

As they walked, Nathan asked more in-depth questions about the land's history. Usually, history repeats itself, so if he knew more about the past, he could better understand the present. He could also figure out which political parties are peaceful, which are not, and who is teamed up with whom. Nott explained all of this information to Nathan, but it was all the information Nail had already given him, which was only the main events that every commoner knew. He was hoping Nott would've given him more secretive info. They passed by a wandering trader later down the line, and Nathan marveled at all his goods. It was a food merchant with otherworld snacks, well, to Nathan it was. He wanted to buy them all but didn't have the money. The merchant got angry and stormed off with his cart. Nathan asked him how far the nearest town or city was before he left. The merchant just told him to keep going the way he is, and he will be at a city named Lund.

"The city I knew was called Lund! So it did develop and become a city. You should register as an adventurer there." Lott recommended that, while proud, she was right all along. Nathan was just as happy; he could do what he knew best. Adventuring! Being an adventurer was the main point of his Dad's game. Nathan was going to be rich in this new world. Nott decided to retreat to Nathan's soul space to rest, and Nathan continued to press on. It got dark before they reached the city, so Nathan decided to set up camp.

'I can't wait to start adventuring again. I have to be careful, though, I don't believe there will be any respawning in this world. I also can't rely on getting reincarnated again. I wonder what kind of ranking system it has. In my Dad's game, it was titles like master or grand master.' With that final thought, Nathan went to find animals for food. He found some deer, but what was interesting was that they looked like the ones on Earth, but with an extra horn in the middle of their head. He learned from Nott that the more horns a monster has, the more powerful they are; the color of the horns mattered too. When Nathan told Nott about the three-horned bunny with the obsidian horns, she almost fainted. He quickly killed them, not even receiving any stats from them.

After returning to camp and cooking, Nott conveniently appeared from his soul place. "Whatcha cooking?" Nott was salivating at the mouth as she asked. Nathan clearly annoyed by the situation, "I killed some deer to eat before I rest for the night. You didn't help, so you don't get any."

"That's not true! I found the road!" Lott had a sour look on her face. To survive in her cave, she had to feast on the rats that would roam in her temporary domain. She didn't need to eat much to sustain herself since she crossed the mortal plane already, and mana mainly provided for her body. The deer meat was so enticing to her that she was willing to do anything to get a taste.

"Fine, I'm not that evil to not feed you. I caught more than I can handle anyway." Nathan then handed her a bowl of the deer stew and started eating his portion. 'Man, I wish I had a bit of seasoning; this tastes bland.' Nathan quickly finished his food and prepared to go to sleep. He laid down down and his mind instantly filled with more thoughts of adventuring. He wanted to know about the dungeons and monsters he could be fighting. He was already thinking of strategies for monsters he knew and how he could use his two abilities better with the daggers.

As he fell asleep, he couldn't help but mutter all the different kinds of skill names he was using in his sleep, probably dreaming of the good old days.

Nathan woke up early, eager start making his way to the city. As he finished packing, he saw a passenger wagon heading in the same direction. He immediately called out, "Wait up!" He ran over to the wagon and approached the driver. The driver asked, "What's the matter, son? Everything okay?"

"Yes sir, is there any chance you are heading towards Lund? I'm heading there to start a new life and have been walking for days."

"That's exactly where I'm heading. We have room for you. Go ahead, hop in, and don't worry about a fee; we are only about ten minutes away."

"Thank you, sir!" Nathan quickly climbed into the wagon, where he saw a family of three and what appeared to be a swordsman. He found himself a spot on the same bench as the swordsman who always kept an eye on Nathan. Very quickly, they arrived at their location. The wagon stopped, and Nathan hopped out and took in the view of the city's massive walls, and turned to the driver.

"This is as far as I can take you; you won't be able to check into the gate with us, but as a gift, you can take this." He then handed Nathan a silver card. "This is a card unique to me, and it'll allow you to be welcomed into the city to get an ID. Now I'll be off, good luck on your journey!"

Nathan watched as they sped off towards the gate. "Finally, time for some real action!" With some newfound energy, Nathan rushed towards the gates.
