Chapter 161 - UNCLE PROMETHEUS 1.

Lex didn't even spare a glance at the bird but his attention went upward instead. The chains. His eyes glowed, green light built around them for a split second and fired. The beams cut through the chains cleanly, breaking them apart without resistance.

Ares stared like that was not supposed to happen that easily.

"…those aren't normal chains," he muttered, more to himself than anyone else, they were made by the god of the Olympians after all, they were far from normal binding chains. And yet they were gone.

Lex hovered slightly off the ground now, just a few inches, the eagle still struggling in his grip.

Behind him, The titan roared freedom.

'Has this cunning mortal gone and made the cosmic power of the anti life equation truly his? What a monster! Actually, referring him as a mortal is just a far cry from reality He actually incorporated the cosmic power into his being, his attacks that may not have threatened divines can more than do so… If I had resisted back then… I will continue to bid my time no matter how long, as long as I don't forget who I am.' Ares winced upon feeling power carried in those destructive anti-life death beams that escaped Lex's socket.

'Now he can completely overwrite a person's will with a simple glance. Should I try and take it from him while he is still stabilising his power before he fully comprehends it? But he now has uncle Prometheus at his side, indebted to him at that! Fighting a titan, let alone Lex, is a colossal task in of itself.' Ares began weighing his options on the scales of warring mind. Going up against Lex now was too much risk than reward, if he was opportune, he would have killed Lex much, much earlier.

Prometheus body shifted, shrinking rapidly, reducing down from something massive into something closer to human size. When it was done, he stood at around six feet, whole again, his midsection already healed like the damage had never been there.

Tala frowned at that, she began to suspect something ancient with the way his power worked, something she had been working all her life to get resources to understand and complete, and in all her research funded by those who fell to her charm or thought they could use her, there was always this feeling she had that made her hairs rise whenever she began experimenting on ancient arcane texts and grimoires… she thought she caught a wisp of it when she looked in the direction of the titan only that she couldn't even bring herself to do so which boggled her mind.

He looked at Lex, with a smile on his face as he regained his regal countenance.

"I am Prometheus," he said, giving a small bow, one hand resting over where his wound had been, his body healing before any was wiser. "May I know the name of the one who saved me?"

"Lex Luthor," he replied simply, still holding the eagle as if it were luggage. "A transhuman. Not by choice."

Prometheus's expression softened slightly,

"You needn't explain further," he said with a pause upon inspecting Lex Luthor's consititution. "I'm… pleased to see how far humanity has come."

"Then you should know…" Lex's smile shifted into something darker.

"... There are no free lunches." He said, putting himself in a predictable manner like a mere mortal that just needed someone just for what they could, they do. Putting his cards on the table like that for the other to read would put a sense of ease and understanding, almost letting them let their guard down around him once they think they understand him completely. But he was speaking to an ancient schemer who only smiled ear to ear with closed eyes, putting up the facade of accepting the cards Lex let go of.

Prometheus didn't hesitate.

"I would expect nothing less," he replied easily. "What I gave humanity… it seems it has returned to me in kind."

"Following you isn't something I need to think about." He straightened slightly. Then, there was a pause as both sides observed each other for a short while as if trying to gauge the other.

"What do you need of me… master?" The word, 'master' didn't sound forced, that was the unsettling part.

'Fucking schemer. Schemers all around me!' Ares frowned in the background, arms crossing as he watched. That hadn't changed about the titan at all, not in all this time.

"But… may I ask one thing?" Prometheus added, shifting his stance slightly. One hand crossed his chest, the other pointing toward the eagle still in Lex's grip.

Lex glanced at it, the eagle still trying to fight it's way out of the enhanced human but to no avail.

"Oh, this?" he said. "Sure."

"Consider it goodwill." He extended his arm, with his all-so-confident smile he would use to broker deals.

"Indeed," he said softly. Prometheus simply stepped closer, calming himself. The eagle's eyes widened in desperation to leave that place rather than end up in the hand of its previous victim.

He took the eagle. And for a moment—nothing happened. Until—he started petting it… gently??? Like it hadn't just spent who knew how long tearing him apart piece by piece.

The eagle reacted tried it's best to escape the clutches of the titan but it still remained powerless in the grip of such powerhouses.

It soon stilled it's futile attempt. Its earlier aggression gone, replaced with something closer to fear.

That… caught Lex's attention. Revenge would've made sense. Anger would've made sense. But this? This didn't make sense at all, especially to the scheming mind of Lex. This would mean, that Prometheus was also a deep schemer, intelligent, cunning and annoying to deal with, he could almost feel Ares annoyance towards such people when he made a remark about this.

Such actions made it harder to read a person like a book, harder to predict, and that made it dangerous. That made Prometheus dangerous. And Lex would rather keep those under him under a tight leash or they would see what it meant to cross him.

Prometheus turned, letting the eagle hover above like nothing unusual had just happened to face Ares who was looking like an annoyed teenager forced to see family.

"Oh!" he said suddenly, his tone shifting again, lighter now. "If it isn't my great-nephew!"

He walked toward Ares with open arms.

"Come here!"

Ares didn't move at first… like a teenager trying to act cool, he began slowly, but there was some awkwardness in his step as he approached his great uncle.

He didn't raise his arms to return the hug, but Prometheus didn't seem to mind. He wrapped him up anyway, lifting him slightly off the ground as if the god of war weighed nothing as he laughed.

"And my, my…" Prometheus continued, turning his attention to Mercy as he set Ares down. "Has humanity grown more beautiful over the years." He stepped closer, placing the back of his hand gently against her cheek.

"Your beauty rivals the divine, dear one. Take it from me, my words are not flattery."

Mercy pulled back slightly, not quickly but slowly. She could feel the charm the titan exuded as if were some kind aura emanating form him.

But the scariest thing happened. One moment he was full of charm and the next, his countenance changed. It was like as if his charm was just a fluke but no… it was so real that the absence of it made Mercy widen eyes and wondered what got the titan's attention.

Prometheus's expression didn't change, but his body did. His arm straightened instantly, turning rigid like a blade as it cut through the air—straight toward Tala's neck.

His attack went through her magical defenses as if they were as dismissible as a suggestion box or complaint box in an establishment. It was too sudden for Tala to even use any trump card hidden up her sleeve and could only open her mouth in horror and regret at the end of her life.
