Alain repeated the word, then chuckled softly.
How amusing. How fitting.
"In that case… let's do this!"
Charizard and Greninja leapt onto the battlefield!
"The moment has come! Alain's final Pokémon has finally appeared! Despite the overwhelming pressure from Ash's team, Alain refuses to give up. Both trainers are giving everything they have—who will emerge as the true victor?"
This was unprecedented in the history of the Kalos League. In past championships, either one of these two trainers would have been worthy of the crown. But this year, fate had brought them both to the same final stage.
Alain and Ash hurled their Poké Balls forward at the same time.
Charizard and Greninja appeared in bursts of light.
"Ash… since you've been waiting for this fight, then there's no reason to hold back! Charizard, answer my heart—Mega Evolve!"
"Roooarrr!!!"
Charizard's body surged with power, its form shifting into Mega Charizard X, black wings spread wide and blue flames searing from its mouth.
At the same time, something extraordinary happened on Ash's side—activating the Bond Phenomenon and transforming Greninja into Ash-Greninja.
Greninja's body began to glow—the connection between trainer and Pokémon flared brighter than ever before. A massive water column surged toward the sky, stronger than any they had manifested before.
"Ku-kahhh!"
Greninja's arms cut through the air, its back shimmering as great water-shaped blades resembling shuriken wings spread wide.
This was Ash-Greninja!
On one side—Mega Charizard X, a legend forged in flame.
On the other—Ash's Greninja, transformed into a form no one had ever witnessed before, the embodiment of their bond.
"Steel Wing!"
"Rooaaarrr!"
Mega Charizard X beat its iron-hued wings, their edges hardened like steel, and hurled itself skyward before diving straight down at Greninja.
"Cut it down with Night Slash!"
In a flash, the two titans clashed.
The steel-forged wings of Mega Charizard X slammed down relentlessly, while Greninja countered with glowing blades of Night Slash, every strike ringing with furious energy.
"Flamethrower!"
"Water Pulse!"
BOOM!
A torrent of searing flame and a surge of cascading water collided, the explosion shaking the stadium to its very core. The battlefield cracked apart under the force, shards of stone bursting skyward.
The crowd roared in unison, their cheers reaching deafening heights.
"Iron Tail!"
Mega Charizard X swung its powerful tail, gleaming like polished metal, aiming to crush Greninja.
"Now's our chance—use your tongue to bind it!"
Ash's eyes lit up. He'd been waiting for this!
Greninja's tongue uncoiled from around its neck, spiraling into a vortex-like bind that absorbed the brunt of the IronTail's power before wrapping tightly around Charizard's tail.
"Over-the-Shoulder Throw!"
WHAM!
Greninja used its grip to spin and hurl Mega Charizard X over its shoulder, slamming the mighty dragon onto the ground with crushing force.
Before Mega Evolution, Charizard's Flying type had resisted Fighting moves like this—but now, as a Fire/Dragon type, it no longer had that resistance.
"Don't let it pin you down—Flamethrower!"
A torrent of deep blue fire erupted, blasting Greninja backward and breaking the bind, forcing distance between them.
"Charizard—take to the skies! The air is your battlefield!"
Alain knew Charizard's strength was at its peak in the air. He had to return it there immediately.
But Ash wasn't about to let that happen. He had forced Charizard to the ground, and this was his moment.
"Quick Attack into Night Slash!"
Swoosh!
Greninja blurred, darting forward with lightning speed, its blade-like strike glowing as it combined speed and power.
Alain's mind raced. He had two options:
—Force Mega Charizard X to endure the blow and escape into the sky.
—or stay grounded and fight Greninja head-on.
He chose the latter.
"Dragon Claw, counter it!"
Mega Charizard X's talons ignited with emerald fire as it slashed forward.
But Quick Attack combined with Night Slash wasn't just a simple strike—it was a fusion of blinding speed and cutting power. Faster, stronger, deadlier.
Slash after slash landed before Charizard could fully react.
"Raaahhh!"
Mega Charizard X staggered back, roaring in pain as Greninja's strikes carved across its body.
"Explosive Burn—Blast Burn!"
Alain clenched his fist. There was one way to force Greninja back.
Blast Burn—the most destructive Fire-type move. Its usual drawback was temporary paralysis after use, but Mega Charizard X's powerful body could withstand it twice without faltering. It had already used it once in this tournament—this would be the second.
"Greninja, Hydro Pump—into the ground!"
BOOM!
Greninja launched a Hydro Pump into the battlefield, propelling itself like a rocket straight into the sky, its body twisting with fluid grace.
"What is this…?"
Alain frowned, uncertain of Ash's plan. Even if Greninja had taken to the air, it couldn't maneuver freely there—it had no footholds.
This was the perfect chance for him and Charizard to strike!
"Dragon Pulse!"
"Form the Giant Water Shuriken!"
The climax was about to begin.
