Annie sat at one of the desks, her head resting on it as tears silently trickled down her cheeks. Dave stood a little distance away, emotions clear on his face. Slowly, he walked up and gently tapped her shoulder. Annie lifted her head, trying to wipe the tears away, but Dave stopped her softly, looking deep into her eyes.
"You don't have to hide it anymore. I know what happened."
Annie stood up, offering a faint smile.
"It's fine, Dave. I can handle it."
Dave shook his head firmly, taking her hand in his.
"No, you can't. She's determined to destroy you."
Fresh tears streamed down Annie's face as she struggled to speak.
"What did I do wrong to Darla?"
Dave pulled her into a tight embrace as she sobbed into his shoulder.
From a distance, I watched, my heart clenched with jealousy.
"Annie, I won't let you have him. Never."
