Chapter 42 - Chapter 41: Goodbye, Conomi Islands

The one-day party had ended, and the next had begun—but not with celebration, but with a lot of activity.

"What's going on?" Oliver said as he got up.

He was inside one of the houses with a blanket over him, so he removed it and walked outside, where he saw many villagers sleeping in the street, clearly having celebrated until they passed out.

"Where is that noise coming from?"

He started walking through the crowd when he saw Usopp sleeping between two chairs, completely bent.

"How can a person even sleep like that?"

He kept moving toward the noise, and along the way he saw Sanji hugging a blanket while kissing it, so he kept walking.

He saw people carrying wood toward the beach.

"What's going on?" Oliver said, confused.

"Well, another one wakes up. I thought you'd sleep more," Genzo said.

"What can I say, you wake up full of energy after a rest like yesterday. And what are you doing?" Oliver asked curiously.

"Since Nami is leaving with you, we want her to take something that will always remind her of Cocoyashi," Genzo said.

"So you want her to take some tangerine trees," Oliver said, remembering that the trees were there before they left Cocoyashi.

Many villagers were moving wood and soil toward the beach where the Going Merry was.

"Let me help," Oliver said, carrying wood on his shoulder.

"Your captain is already on the ship, so—"

"What are you doing here?! You should be resting!"

Nami had just arrived and looked at Oliver somewhat angrily.

"I would, but the villagers are working on the Merry, so I'm helping them..."

"But you need to rest or your wound will reopen," Nami scolded him.

"I understand that, but they need help, and I'm not going to let Luffy help because he might do something stupid," Oliver said, remembering how Luffy "helps."

He looked back, trying to get help from Genzo, but he was already walking toward the Merry, leaving him alone.

"Your arm is injured too, and you should be resting, not carrying weight," Nami said.

"Who said I was going to carry weight?"

Oliver stored the materials in his inventory.

"Remember I have this, I don't need to carry anything," Oliver reminded her.

"You should still be resting."

"Don't worry about that, I heal faster... or I should. Anyway, I'm going to help them," Oliver said.

"Everyone in this crew is so stupid," Nami said resigned.

"That includes you too."

Nami glared at him angrily, making Oliver step back a little.

"Well, there can always be exceptions. So, do you want to go see what they're doing to the Merry?"

"I have things to do before tomorrow, so go by yourself... but don't carry anything," Nami said sternly.

"Yes, ma'am."

Nami walked off in the opposite direction, muttering, while Oliver headed to the beach to help until a loud shout was heard. He hurried over and saw that the Merry was covered in dirt on the upper part.

"What the hell happened here?"

He saw that part of the path was missing a lot of soil, and something running back toward the Merry.

"Stop it with the dirt already!"

"Hmmm... but you said you needed dirt."

"You really brought a lot of dirt, Luffy."

Oliver stared at the amount of dirt, which was even falling to the lower part.

"Ohhh... Hi Oliver, how are you?"

"Pretty good, but not as good as you, since it looks like you didn't even fight Arlong yesterday," Oliver said, still unable to believe how much energy he had.

He took the wood from his inventory and set it aside before climbing onto the Merry.

"Now we have to remove the dirt we won't use, and I'll go get the tangerine trees," one of the villagers said.

"I'll go get them," Luffy said before running off.

"Wait! Someone go with him!" a villager shouted.

Luffy ran off, followed by some villagers toward the tangerine fields.

"He really causes chaos wherever he goes," Oliver said.

He heard noise below, so he followed it until he reached the storage area and went down into the women's room, where he found an old man building something.

"What are you doing here?"

"Oh, hello, I'm Teru, the carpenter here. I'm leaving a gift for Nami."

"A minibar."

"Yes, how did you know?"

"I've got a good eye."

He looked around the women's room, noticing it only had a single bed.

'How did Nami and Robin sleep here for so long? Did they sleep hugging each other in the same bed? And if so, how did they do it when she still didn't fully trust Robin?' Oliver wondered.

"You said you're the carpenter of Cocoyashi, right?"

"That's right."

"Could you make a small change here?"

The next morning, everything was ready on the Going Merry, and they stood waiting for Nami.

"Alright, this is our farewell."

"We'll continue with our bounty hunting work. We owe you a lot."

"We may go our separate ways, but I hope we meet again someday."

Johnny and Yosaku said their goodbyes.

"Alright, take care guys," Luffy said.

"You too," they both replied.

Everyone was waiting for Nami to arrive, which made Sanji uneasy.

"Is Nami-san not coming?! She's the only reason I'm still with you!" Sanji shouted.

"Then should we throw you off the ship?" Oliver asked from behind him.

"I can help with that," Zoro said.

The villagers started talking among themselves, bringing up Nami's money and how she would leave it all in Cocoyashi.

"I told her to take some, but she wouldn't listen. So I didn't insist," Nojiko said.

"That idiot... we're the ones who haven't thanked her enough yet!" Genzo said.

At that moment, Nami arrived and shouted to the crew.

"Raise the anchor!"

Nami ran toward the ship, confusing everyone.

"Huh? Why is she running?" Usopp wondered.

"Well, she said to raise the anchor, so we will," Luffy said.

They began raising the anchor while the villagers tried to stop them, as they wanted to thank Nami for everything she had done.

"Are you sure about leaving like this?" Sanji asked Luffy.

"If she wants to leave like that, then let her," Luffy replied.

"Stop talking and keep lifting," Oliver said as he helped.

Nami ran past all the villagers and reached the dock, then jumped onto the Going Merry. The villagers felt relieved, but also a bit frustrated that they couldn't thank her—until, once she was aboard, Nami lifted her shirt slightly and numerous wallets fell to the ground.

The villagers checked their pockets—and found them empty.

"See you," Nami said, holding a 10,000 Belly bill in her hand.

"Cat Burglar!" the whole village shouted angrily.

"She hasn't changed at all," Usopp said.

"You never know when she'll betray us again," Zoro said.

"Well done, Nami," Sanji praised her.

"She looks pretty happy, that's good," Oliver said.

"Hahahaha," Luffy just laughed.

"Little thief!"

"Come back here!"

"Give me back my wallet!"

"Take care!"

"Promise you'll come back!"

"We have so much to thank you for!"

The villagers began shouting their goodbyes in every way they could.

'Bellemere-san, I'm leaving,' Nami thought, saying goodbye to her mother as they sailed away from Cocoyashi.

"Goodbye! See you again!"

The weather was good, the wind was calm, and the windmill turned as if bidding farewell to Nami and wishing her a safe journey.
